I believe VW Polo has already launched their 1.6 litre Polo, and Fiat Grande Punto comes with 1.4 ltr Petrol engines as well.

A Figo Sport with the 1.6 duratec engine would be a driver's delight. It will be a real hot hatch as it already has the dynamics of one, the only thing lacking is a powerful engine option.

Expect some surprises from Ford on Figo's first launch anniversary. Minimum i expect is Limited Edition version with a good VFM deal.

Do not know about polo 1.6 but Punto 1.4 litre is not a hot hatch. It really needs a turbo petrol to earn that title.

Regards.

Fiat may launch Punto T-jet seeing the response to Linea T-jet! That should be a hot hatch then!

It is confirmed - the Figo is 1.6!

Today I accompanied my colleague to take delivery of his petrol Figo. The same guy who had handled my Figo's delivery was there. I started chatting with him. He became very friendly that I had bought one Figo, and was bringing my colleagues too.

I told him (lied of course) that I had seen a camouflaged Figo with round rear headlamps and asked him what it is. He smiled and told me it the 1.6 engine Figo. He said, no idea about the launch date though, and they had taken 2 years to launch Figo, and this is just in testing stage. Also zilch idea about price. But he said "1.6" without me mentioning, and that is confirmation to me.

He also informed that Fiesta hatch is being tested for launch here. Again, no idea when.

The winds of change are blowing through the Indian hatchback scene. After years of econo-boxes the hot hatches are back!
First the Alto k10,next the Polo 1.6 and now the Figo 1.6.Just hope this time around they are here to stay and are met with good demand and customer satisfaction.

Man. I regret going fo the 1.4 TDCi now. The 1.6 petrol would have been a dream cone true, with this dream chassis and dream dynamics.

Same how I felt after buying iPhone 3G instead of waiting for the 3GS.

Ok let me console myself. The 3G is good too. The TDCi is good too.

I only hope that that guy isn't a t-bhp member and that he hasn't followed this thread before letting you on with the secret.

Jokes aside, this is a great news and should warm the hearts of petrolheads. Figo 1.6 will be a dream car, undoubtedly, given it's current dynamics.

Get it peted.

Pete guarantees a minimum of 15hp and 30nm gain.
Plus another 7hp from 2 additional settings.

Add a miltex exhaust and you'll have a car with atleast 87hp right there rubbing shoulders with a lot of hot hatches and you still won't be worried about your fuel bills.

Sorry for going off topic guys. Could not resist.

Regards

question is, why would they camouflage the entire car for an engine variant?

Methinks, for publicity! Fiat had to go advertising for "90bhp" to try and make a "racing car" impression in young buyers' minds. Ford I think is more clever, they are leveraging us enthusiasts' word-of-mouth. That is fine and worth it, if they deliver a hot hatch at the end of it!

This is such a fantastic news. Thanks for sharing. let us hope the dude sales guy is really clued in and not making a wild guess ! :-). That will be one hot machine to drive - not for racing, just for normal day to day use too it would be one great vehicle. With the kind of dynamics and steering feedback it can squeeze in and run ahead of the city breds. Hope it generates enough buyer demand and becomes a reasonable commercial success too.

This is just a speculation - I think Ford is trying to take everybody's attention away from the Fiesta hatch. People are more interested in the camouflaged vehicle than the one which is not.

Good, since they will be now out of the 1.2 L benefits bracket, they can get rid of those paper thin bumpers too, as now they dont have to keep it below 4m.

They have a history of launching decade old models in India starting with Escort, eventhough they had a factory here in India.

Just one product is not suffcient to decide whether a market will accept new models or not. Fusion failed because it was neither an SUV nor a hatch. A Confusion as someone called it in another thread.
