25-28 lakhs for a Hyundai? Have they forgotten Terracan/Tucson already? By pricing Santa Fe at these prices, Hyundai is actually promoting Fortuner. Hyundai is doing more for Toyota than Toyota are doing for themselves.

Hyundai may as well have NOT launched the Captiva is CBU was the only options. I agree with Aniket that 16 - 18 Lakhs is the ideal price for it. This would have eaten away some Fortuner & Captiva sales. Toyota has shown how if you go the CKD route and offer a sub 20 Lakh premium SUV, it will sell well. I am surprised that Hyundai has decided to Ignore this lesson. I suspect the main reason why they launched the Santa Fe is to park it next to the Sonata Embera so people realize what a value the Embera is.

Santa Fe is one size larger than the Captiva, CRV etc. Its the Tucson that competes in that segment.

am surprised because they are not that insensitive to the market after all. I am sure they would have learned their lessons from the Tucson and Terracan and by rights ought not to repeat the same with the Santa Fe!

CKD with high level of indigenization is the only way forward if they want to remain competitive in this market of markets - namma India!!
The only answer I can think for why they are going completely crazy with pricing is that there must be 2 completely separate departments - 1 for small cars and 1 for SUVs that absolutely do not talk to each other. They just use the Hyundai name. Else, there is no sane reason why a company that can get their i10 strategy so right can't make anywhere near the right decisions with their SUVs.

This is another super-flop from Hyundai that is not going to get to the roads.

Had this car been in the 18-19 lakhs segment, then I am sure it would have given some competition and worries to toyota for their fortuner and definitely eaten up the sales of captiva, endevour or even outlander (with whatever little sales it already has) and CR-V.

The car maybe good but the true value of the car is learnt when it is driven more than 50-60k kms and more than 5-7 years old. That's where I believe fortuner will most certainly outshine santa fe. And I am not talking about badge value here. Because when you are buying a 20+ lakh car, you would want to use it comfortably without any problems for a decade or 70-80k kms. That's where toyota reliability might overtake. I am not talking about the service given by these companies but the products itself.

I saw the Santa Fe on the road today. It was huge, big and magnificient. But somehow it did not capture the attention like the fortuner did and in fact was looking like a oversized tucson.

@Sid: The interiors looks awesome. Good Pics.

Best of luck Hyundai India.

I am sure Santa Fe will follow Terracan and Tucson's way.

It should do 80-100 units p/m initially and then settle down to 30-40 in coming months.

Bmw X1 at ~ 26 lacs will absolutely kill the leftover sales that the Fortuner does not take away from this. I think single digit sales is all Hyundai will get out of this after first 3 months.

IMO, It would not be a bad idea for Hyundai to bring in a re-badged Kia Sportage. Would be cheaper also, I guess.

Why is the third row seat sticking out near the boot. Does the third row have reclining?

Did you tried the last row. How would you compare it with Innova ?
