Re: Tata Pixel : A new City Car concept based on the Tata Nano

Wow!!

Thats a great news! Hope they do not tone down too much from the concept (except the doors). Seeing this car on European roads will certainly make me very proud.

I can still remember the pride I experienced on seeing a Tata Safari in Rome, Italy way back in 2003.

Re: Tata Pixel : A new City Car concept based on the Tata Nano

Excellent output from TATA. Hope this won't stop with the concept stage.

BTW the 'Zero turn' concept was mind blowing. The front axle knuckle and the suspension linkages are very similar to Ford Focus 'revolvoknuckle' (i think it is called so, may be wrong) Tie rods weren't connected directly to the knuckle as in case of traditional steering linkages. They are attached to a toothed wheel which is then coupled to another toothed wheel on the top of knuckle.

Mechanism seems great on sheets, but the reliability is questionable on roads.

Could someone post the picture of steering mechanism? It is quite interesting.
I searched in google but with least success.

Watch the video at 1min 20secs. Thats probably the best view of the mechanism you are going to get, given that this is still a concept car.

^^^
Thanks Rehaan.
I've seen this video already, but the mechanism is not so clear in this.
Complete front axle photograph is available in this month's SAE publication, unfortunately missing it.

Re: Tata Pixel : A new City Car concept based on the Tata Nano

When are they getting this here!

I shall queue up all night long (a-la Apple store style) to book it outright!
Even if they bump the price to double its current cost.

Instant buy-out!

Some concepts should remain concepts.

Some concepts should have used contraception (so that they are never conceived)

But Some concepts - that have conceived so beautifully - deserve a C-section (Cesarean Section) - for a 'premature' delivery !

Re: Tata Pixel : A new City Car concept based on the Tata Nano

Guess what? The Pixel is not just a concept-only vehicle. Tata is serious about introducing the Zero turn radius and has been working over the past 18 months to perfect it. Reportedly, it could go into production by end of the year.

Here's a test drive report - http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-rev...857/tata-pixel

Quote:
The zero turn technology in this Tata Pixel is a shining example of lateral thinking by British engineers. And it works, allowing you to squeeze in and out of unfeasibly small spaces and practically turn on the spot. This technology could definitely be transferred to black cabs and city cars of the future, as the towns we live in become ever more congested.

Re: Tata Pixel : A new City Car concept based on the Tata Nano

For what was supposed to have production plans in 2011, this one seems not to take off at all. I don't think there has been any new updates on its home website http://www.tatapixel.com/default.asp. Further, I don't get this idea of "for Europe"? Seriously, why not Asia and India?

Re: Tata Pixel : A new City Car concept based on the Tata Nano

Dear Mr. Ratan Tata, this car has to be brought to India. Position it as a "premium city car" and watch your sales. Don't position it as the poor man's car like TML did with the Nano. No one, not even the poor want to buy a product positioned as a 'poor man's product' A lot of us simply want a comfortable convenient city run about that has some oomph to it and this car does that better than any other I have seen.

BHPians - Tata's are probably launching it in Europe first to create that aspirational factor, that 'oh it is so wanted in Paris' factor. As you know some parts of the Indian market love that. The mechanics of rotating two wheels on the same axis alignment in two directions (clock wise & anti-clockwise) to reduce the turning radius is well proven in military armoured personnel carriers.

Tata's - thank you for making us proud. Look forward to its launch in India. I would love to buy one after a thorough test drive. Only challenge is going to be the height of those doors.

Ratan Tata stepped aside from Tata Group management long back!

Unless Tata Motors decides to be funded by the charitable trust controlled by the Tata Group, I don't see Ratan Tata having a say in anything happening at Tata Motors.

Re: Tata Pixel : A new City Car concept based on the Tata Nano

I am amazed at Tata working at such a pace, and not reacting to market demands.
I had suggested some six years ago that we need small crossovers.

And today, Duster and Ecosport are setting the segment ablaze.

There is still a vacuum. Something like a mini fortuner. With option of 4x4.

And a super small high quality diesel car. A high performance car. With automatic transmission, power steering etc. And please, enough of that stupid smiling grill. It has been done to death by Tata. If a design fails, do away with it. Smile should be on the faces of owners. First aim for that. Tata has to work hard. All the customer service projects stay on paper. I have been hearing for last ten years that Tata is working hard on this area. They have only gone to worse.

Every time I buy a Tata car, I have been disappointed, not by the car but the pathetic service.

I don't know when they will stop dreaming and wake up. And probably sack those who have become so institutionalized to ineffective/sarkari style of working.

Customers have already bracketed them. And all Tata execs do is make a new PowerPoint for their boxes and new PR / ad campaign claiming they have suddenly become more customer centeric with indroduction of few more models.

What they forget is that the customers are as smart as their wives. Its impossible to make shit shine. For something to shine, it has to be diamond or gold. They have to exceed every other company in case they have to survive. Yes, time to catch-up has passed.

It's do or die. Wake before its too late. Its time to empower people with vision and ideas. I think something drastic needs to take place.
