A very tragic incident indeed.

The article's say-

Quote:
This is just sad!

All the three deceased were not wearing helmets and were on the track, even though a warning had been issued to them

"Everything happened within less than a minute. It was a literally a blind spot. He (Gaurav) tried to stop the car, however, as there was a sharp turn the situation became unavoidable. Despite being warned, the biker forcefully entered the track," the organizers said.
Really feel sad for the deceased.

Received few images from Bhpian SamfromIndia in a whats app group.
Apparently Gaurav Gill was driving the XUV 300, a Polo looks to be involved in this crash too. Got few gory images of the deceased too, but am not sharing them.

Really do not know who will be blamed now- Gaurav Gill or the marshal/organizer's. I do not find any fault of Gaurav Gill. The marshal's should have been stricter.

I do not expect the villagers to understand the risks involved in motor-sports, so the organizers have to take care of it.

That's a sad incident.
Irrespective of advance warnings and caution exercised by the organisers and marshals, such incidents happen as people do not understand the dangers of venturing into a live stage.
I have personally seen villagers playing chicken as cars flew by at full speed in many stages.

Feel really sad for the deceased.

the question now will be whether the organisers had adequate permissions or not regardig closure et al, else it will be a long protracted game of finger pointing.

Sad incident where all involved are suffering. Let the deceased rest in peace.

However, apart from the two wheeler and Gaurav Gill's Mahindra, there is a Polo too. Two cars and a two wheeler involved? Polo pics are a bit confusing.

All events are organised only after necessary permissions are secured. The entire event is insured towards such incidents.
Even the authorities do visit nearby villages to inform them and ask them to stay away from stages.
Before the stage start, a ZERO car will do a sweep of the stage to ensure no spectators are on track. Inspite of such precautions, these incidents happen.

Even international events are not immune to such rare incidents.

That is really a tragic incident to happen both for the deceased as well as the driver Gaurav Gill. He will have to bear the burden of guilt despite no fault of his. The marshals/organizers should have taken adequate measures to prevent precisely such an incident from happening.
During the MB Luxe Drive event held in Pune, there was a straight closed road where the handling abilities of the C-Class were shown during panic/emergency braking. A local on a Royal Enfield coolly enters from the opposite end of the road in the middle of the testing. The driver had to really hard swerve to avoid hitting him. Thankfully no one was hurt inside the car as well.

On one hand I feel that the organisers are at fault. They failed to ensure that track remain off-bounds to the non-participants. On the other hand, isn't the motorcyclist at a greater fault here, as it did say in the news "The motorcycle had forcibly entered into the barricaded area, breaking past the security barrier"

Also I want to know more about these barricades. Are the barricades put in way that they form a fence like structure where one can't enter without breaking it OR are they just loosely placed to just act as a deterrent?

Also one more thing that's pinching me is this statement from the news, especially the underlined part "The organisers had done their level best to ensure safety measures. They went to the villages and asked the people well in advance not to venture into the stages"

Does the responsibility end just by asking the villagers to not cut in the rally area. Shouldn't they ensure that the rally area can't be entered into without sufficient force?

Default FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship called off after accident.

The third round of FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship has been called off after 3 locals were killed in a freak accident after 'illegally' entering the rally area. The couple and their son died on the spot after Gaurav Gills XUV hit them at an alleged 150 kmph.

Apparently they forcefully entered the 'active race area' on their way to their farm land. Gaurav Gill too was hurt in the accident and has been admitted in the hospital with respiratory issues.

The locals claim that the organisers did not take any permission for the rally and action is going to be taken against them. They apparently blocked the race route and stormed the local police station refusing to take the bodies.

It feels strange that FMSCI would do something like that and it does seem to be typical Indian behavior and not need warnings or follow rules. Anyway, sadly 3 lives were lost. I hope Gill is not penalised for this.

This is such an unfortunate and probably an avoidable incident as well. From whatever reports that I have seen, it appears that though the organizers may have communicated about the rally and the closure of the roads, there does not seem to be agreement between the organizers and the public. The public seem to have wanted to use the roads irrespective.

This is where the route opening zero car comes handy. There also seem to have been route marshals at various places including the place where the ill fated bike seems to have come through. The marshalls/zero car should have alerted the start marshals or even warned the competition cars ahead of the place where they were not able to control the locals.

The organizers have a lot of responsibility in this case. As a competitor, one does not expect any kind of traffic since it is mandated so as per the rules of the rallies.

If one were to use strong barriers that you are proposing, that would pose a threat for the rally drivers as it may prove injurious/fatal if they run-off the track. I think that while legal permissions are secured, one also needs to account for moral obligations by going to the locals and informing them properly about the event that is going to take place.

The barricades are nothing but tapes. The stages vary anywhere between 6-25Kms, you can't expect to install barricades for the entire stages. That is impossible.
Usually these stages are set in remote locations.
Though there is enough precautions taken, such incidents do happen as people do not listen to organisers. If the Zero car had come across these people on the track, the stage would have been cancelled, but unfortunate that it happened during the event.
Quite unfortunate.

The Polo looks to have suffered more damages.

Quote:
The car driven by Phalguna Urs which was following Gill too crashed trying to avoid hitting the latter's crushed vehicle. Urs' navigator Srikanth Gowda broke his collar bone as a result and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Urs suffered minor injuries.
