Bentley SUV approved by VW board.

Bentley's new SUV has been approved for production by parent Volkswagen.

VW's supervisory board has agreed to build an ultraluxury vehicle based on the EXP 9F concept unveiled at the Geneva auto show last year.

The SUV, internally codenamed Falcon, will retail starting at 200,000 euros ($271,000), the paper said. The model will likely be built at VW's plant in Slovakia, with final completion taking place at Bentley's plant in Crewe, England

Audi Q7-Bentley SUV to share platform.

The full-size Q7 SUV will use the SUV-spec version of the Volkswagen Group’s new MLB modular platform; it’s designed to underpin a whole range of medium to full-size cars, in a similar way to the adaptability of VW’s MQB platform for small to medium-size cars.

The next Q7 is due in 2014.

Bentley says its SUV will create a new segment.

The model, reported to cost about 180,000 euros based on previous comments by company executives, is priced higher than the most expensive Range Rover and will establish a new class of SUV.

The SUV will be available with four, five or seven seats.

The vehicle will have high ground clearance and "will be as capable off-road as the Range RoverBentley expects that a third of the 3,000 to 4,000 annual sales of the SUV will be in the United States

The Bentley SUV might be powered by Porsche Cayenne’s 4.2-lt diesel engine. Bentley has also hinted at plug-in hybrid versions of all its cars in future, which, the SUV will also follow.

Update;

Bentley has 2000 pre-orders for the SUV

The SUV will be built in Crewe, Schreiber (Bentley's chief executive and chairman) confirmed. About 400 extra personnel will be hired to handle the project, and it is estimated that 600 jobs will be created among closely located suppliers. Schreiber said Bentley tries to give priority to UK suppliers.

Launch at the beginning of 2016.

Bentley Releases First Photo of Production SUV, Will Launch in 2016.

The Bentley SUV features two pairs of round headlights, with the outer headlamps being smaller. The photo doesn’t reveal anything else, except the brand’s imposing grille.

The SUV spy pictures captured. Launch expected in 2016.

The interior features Bentley’s traditional leather, wood and metal elements. We can also see that the vehicle is getting a new design for the air vents as well as a digital instrument cluster complete with head-up display. Expect a sophisticated electronic interface to go along with the new instrument cluster. Third-row seating is planned, though it’s not clear if this will be standard or optional
