If I can hazard a guess, its similar to the 2 designs showcased (of the E class bumper at the time of launch - refer to attached images), the more aggressive bumper is from AMG! In the case of the "S", it may be that the bigger bumper is for the hybrid for better cooling. Also AMG will use it in the monster that they create in the near future.

Unless you're in the 3rd row of an Ertiga!

I'm assuming car is not just sedan. But yes, T-bone is far more dangerous than front or back

Good spotting.

It seems to just be a different body kit. I'm not sure of the details, but i can tell you that it didn't seem to be model specific. For example, the black S500 had bumper type #1, whilst the silver S500 had bumper type #2.

For the really impressive CoD, i bet the bumper shown on the silver cars in that shot was used!

Some have the AMG bodystyling, and rims. Not the same as the proper AMGs, but sort of halfway between the proper AMGs and the stock bumpers.

Re: Mercedes S-Class : Official Preview

I drooled over the photos and read the thread over and over, rated 5 *. The pictures are so perfect and writeup crisp. I couldn't but admire the thoughtfulness which MB has in designing bits like the palm rest over command controller, phone key pad etc. The animations were good too. The tail almost looked like the Teana to me and is not to my liking.

Re: Mercedes S-Class : Official Preview

Excellent review, very thorough and comprehensive, thanks very much.

I must admit I love all the technology, it's really impressive.

Still, when I just look at these S-classes outside and inside it just doesn't do it for me.

The outside looks to plump for my liking, and the inside a little to clinical. Not my type of car. But I'd be very happy to fiddle around with all the buttons, settings for a while. I'm sure it'll be interesting to drive, but my cars need to be visually pleasing too, inside and outside and this one isn't.

Re: Mercedes S-Class : Official Preview

Fantastic review, Rehaan. What a car? It's a showcase more than an automobile, in my opinion. I am not sure that I would want to own one, though. I cannot do without the old style interaction between man and machine. That seems to get lost in all this wizadry.

What a "preview"! the photography is mindblowing ... it is better than official marketing pics!

PS: I know posting one-liners is against forum policy ... but mods pls let this slip in!

Re: Mercedes S-Class : Official Preview

Thought about our discussion here after reading this piece of news

http://www.autoweek.com/article/2013...NEWS/130909832

I also expected a small price increase but quite surprised to see that its cheaper !!

Any idea how it compares to the outgoing car?

This car makes W221 feel one segment lower and leaves very little space for competition.

I guess i am in the minority here when i say that i'm not a fan of this ad. Its way too long, shows too many (ugly) chickens, and doesn't explain a darn thing about WHAT this technology is to those who know nothing about it (ie. 95%+ of viewers).

Hmm.. though that is base to base, and that would greatly depend on what features were/weren't included. Will let other members chip in here, as i have little idea about the pricing comparo.

Don't know if this has been shared before. A colleague pointed me to this official documentary. Enjoy!
