Toyota and Suzuki Agree to Start Consideration in a wide-ranging partnership,

Toyota and Suzuki have announced a new wide-ranging collaboration, which will involve Suzuki-badged hybrid versions of the RAV4 and Corolla estate for the European market.

Toyota will also adopt Suzuki’s newly developed compact vehicle engines in the European market. These engines will be manufactured at Toyota’s Poland facility.

The two Japanese firms signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a partnership , and have now agreed ‘concrete details’ of the deal. The two firms say the agreement will bring together “Toyota’s strength in electrification technologies and Suzuki’s strength in technologies for compact vehicles.

Moving forward, insofar as Toyota and Suzuki continue to fairly and freely compete against each other, both companies intend to consider further collaboration to realize a sustainable future mobility society while respecting all applicable laws

Suzuki Chairman Osamu Suzuki :

"At the time we announced our scope of cooperation in May last year, I spoke that we will strive for success globally. I have seen progress in the partnership since then, and it is my pleasure to be able to make this announcement today regarding the status of partnership on a global basis, including Europe and Africa. In addition, we appreciate the kind offer from Toyota to let us make use of their hybrid technology. We will continue our utmost efforts."

Toyota President Akio Toyoda :

Through our new agreement, we look forward to the wider use of hybrid technologies, not only in India and Europe, but around the world. At the same time, we believe that the expansion of our business partnership with Suzuki―from the mutual supply of vehicles and powertrains to the domains of development and production―will help give us the competitive edge we will need to survive this once-in-a-century period of profound transformation. We intend to strengthen the competitiveness of both our companies by applying our strong points and learning from each other."

For India:

1. The two firms will also work to develop hybrid vehicles for the Indian market.

2.Suzuki will also supply Toyota with two compact vehicles based on the Ciaz and Ertiga for the Indian market, and four vehicles in the African market.

3. Toyota and Suzuki have also agreed to collaborate on the development of a C-segment SUV for the Indian market

4. Toyota also will take on production of the Suzuki Vitara Brezza for that market.

Will Toyota badged Ciaz lead to phasing out of Yaris in India?

With the news of Toyota's Ertiga, all speculations of Toyota Rush coming to India can be laid to rest.

Ciaz is a competitor of Etios, not Yaris. I wonder how both sedans can sell at similar cost side by side.

Couple of slightly queries:
Is there any international market where the Ciaz is offered with 6 airbags? I couldn't find it with the pre-facelift model. Any idea if it's available now?

Secondly, has Maruti ever produced a car in India with better safety features compared to the same model in any other international market? At least in the number of airbags?

Highly doubt that since most cars (atleast in US) offer multiple airbags as standard which is an option here in India. This is after my team conducted a research for an automobile giant in US (out of 150 cars, 149 cars had more than 2 airbags as standard).

For markets with high demand for BEVs, such as China, the United States, and Europe, Toyota is conducting development toward the popularization of BEVs.

To respond to customers' needs and to encourage many customers to choose its BEVs, such development is being conducted in an efficient manner that will allow Toyota to offer a sufficient number of variations of BEVs at affordable prices.

Specifically, Toyota is jointly planning and developing multiple models together with partner companies that specialize in certain areas.

After having sorted customers' needs, Toyota is currently considering six variations in BEV size and style.

It will jointly plan and develop a midsize BEV SUV with Subaru, and it will jointly plan and develop a compact BEV with Suzuki and Daihatsu.

Suzuki - Toyota collaboration will be visible in International level in 2020.

From September, the Japanese manufacturer will offer two new models, a station wagon and an SUV based on the Corolla and Rav4

The two Japanese brands are indeed establishing a partnership that allows Toyota to support Suzuki in Europe, and Suzuki to help Toyota in India and Africa.

A Hybrid SUV and Station wagon:

Suzuki will offer "rebadged" and personalized versions of the Corolla station wagon and the RAV4 which will both be available in a hybrid version.

This is a great information . Along with this I am sure MSIL will also have their product plans below 10L to hold their market share in India .

However fast forward India 2022 , I foresee a war cry from TOYOTA -SUZUKI to take on HYUNDAI-KIA .
The rest of the participants for the moment will be confined to the boundaries or seating of the arena . This war will go a long way and many others watching this may just fade away unable to bear the effects of it .

Badge engineering success for Toyota- Suzuki.

Toyota's Starlet is the 3rd largest seller in Dec-20.

The Toyota Starlet (1 126) climbed one place to third, while the Japanese firm’s Prospecton-built Corolla Quest (1 004) rocketed back up the table to grab fourth. The Toyota Fortuner thus fell two spots to fifth, with 942 units registered.

Toyota- Suzuki's badge engineered 'Starlet' becomes the Star in S African market.

Demand outstrips supply.

The Starlet, a rebadged Baleno built by Maruti Suzuki in India, has been selling up a storm in South Africa since launching in mid-September 2020 as a replacement for the Etios hatchback.

According to senior-vice president of sales and marketing at Toyota SA Motors, the newcomer has exceeded even the Japanese firm’s own sales expectations.

It was always a big debate within the company about how many we were going to sell. But this model has done extremely well with a segment share of 22 percent
