ID 496: 11 Series, 55 model BMW?

ID 496 looks like a 1940 Chrysler New Yorker Sedan

Its either a New Yorker or a Windsor. I don't know how to distinguish between the two.

Well done jayz, ID 496 is indeed a 1940 Chrysler sedan, what trim level I cannot deduce though.

At first glance it is easily mistakable for the more popular (especially in India) 47 shape, the similarities of the rear ends are uncanny barring the rear bumper which is probably the only giveaway along with the registration.

Let me help you there moralfibre and karlosdeville.
The 1940 Chrysler New Yorker had a 128.5 inch wheelbase. (six inches longer)
The parking lights were in separate chrome fender-top fairings.
They came with OEM suede upholstery and OEM 7.00x15 whitewall tires.
The engine was a 3,976 cc straight-eight that developed 135 bhp @ 3400 rpm.
Visually, a 5 bladed fan, horizontal-cylinder shaped aircleaner and horizontally mounted oil-filter.

The 1940 Chrysler Windsor had a 122.5 inch wheelbase.
The parking lights were built into the chrome headlamp bezels.
They came with OEM rexine upholstery and OEM 6.25x16 blackwall tires.
The engine was a 3,958 cc straight-six that developed 108 bhp @ 3600 rpm.
Visually, a 4 bladed fan, vertical-cylinder shaped aircleaner and vertically mounted oil-filter.

Very simply, if you see 16-inch wheels it's a Windsor, 15-inch but wider wheels, it's a New-Yorker.

There were also very similar looking 1940 Chrysler Saratoga, 1940 Chrysler Royal and 1940 Chrysler Traveler 4-door sedans which can be confused at first sight for Windsor and New-Yorker, but that's an aside.

Karl, the 1940-style tail-lights and broken trunk-lid lock mechanism, give it away as a 1940. Can't mistake the 1947. It had different tail lights !

And the part of the car exposed in the photo hides its length, wheels and running board, so it's hard to deduce more.

Ram could you illustrate the difference in taillights? I really can't tell the difference from the photo. Also on closer inspection you will see that the boot lid itself (amongst most other panels) is of a different design and not interchangable, though very similar to look at.

Did you also know that the front grilles of the Windsor and New Yorker are not interchangable even though they look identical? At least for 47 the New Yorker grille is slightly wider.

ID:497 is a 1960 Ford Starliner, Ram? There's one in Delhi, a regular at the rallies here. Would put up a pic if I had a soft copy, lemme see if I can get a scan.

I was wondering why the car was looking so familiar, I was confusing it with a later Chrysler. Oh well. Here she is at this year's Expo.

Actually Karl, there would be three red lights on the 1947 on braking at night,
the two tail lights and a red light in the number plate illumination bezel.

Rightly said Ram. Over and above that, you will notice none of the panels are interchangable.

Thanks for the pic, karlosdeville. The front shot clinches the identification. The separate chrome fender-top fairings for the parking lights were not found on the lesser six-cylinder cars. BTW, who's the handsome gentleman with the tie?

Alvis, firstly please note the protocol, this is ID 498.:)

From the radiator grille it is a Delahaye or a Chrysler (and a gorgeous one at that). Most likely coachbuilt, so frowned upon on this thread. Id say it is German coachbuilt, probably Erdmann and Rossi.
