Recall Season - Nissan, Suzuki, Daihatsu to recall cars in Japan

Nissan Motor Co will recall 76,415 cars across 10 models in Japan due to a possible defect that may cause engine failure, a filing with the transport ministry showed.

A Nissan spokesman said it would also recall 2,300 cars for the same problem overseas.

Suzuki Motor will recall 432,366 units of two minicar models in Japan, while Daihatsu Motor will recall 60,774 units of four minicar models in Japan, according to separate filings.

Two incidents of fire have been reported among the Suzuki models because of a possible defect in air conditioners, while no accident has been reported in the Nissan and Daihatsu vehicles subject to the recall, the filings showed.

Minivehicles, with an engine displacement of 660cc, are only sold in Japan.

Now,Nissan to recall 5,00,000 plus vehicles worldwide

Recall: Nissan issues two recalls involving over 500,000 vehicles worldwide

Nissan has just announced that it will be issuing voluntary recalls for two separate issues that can affect many of its SUVs, trucks and one minivan. The first recall involves a brake pin that can become disengaged and result in a loss of braking – the second issue involves potentially faulty fuel gauges in high-mileage vehicles.

According to Nissan, the two recalls announced today will involve 539,864 vehicles worldwide – with the United States holding the lion’s share. Nissan says that 178,916 vehicles will be involved in the brake pin recall, and 418,865 vehicles will be involved in the fuel gauge recall with overlapping coverage between the two recalls. All told, 597,781 repairs are due to be performed on U.S. vehicles, with another 79,122 repairs needed in other world markets.

Although Nissan is calling both these recalls voluntary recalls, the first recall, involving 178,916 2008-10 Nissan Titans, Armadas, Quests and Infiniti QX56 SUVs, is centered around a pin that can become partially disengaged and result in a loss of braking. Nissan blames the problem on a manufacturing error by a part supplier – not a design flaw.
The second issue involves the 2005 through 2008 Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56, as well as the Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra produced between January and March 2006, and October 2007 and January 2008. These vehicles total 418,865 in the U.S. alone, and according to Nissan, can display inaccurate fuel readings when they reach higher mileage levels. The problem usually involves a faulty higher reading, which can result in drivers running out of gas.
Nissan plans to notify owners of the affected vehicles so they can bring them into dealers for an inspection, and if necessary, repair the problems.

GMDAT recalls Cruze, Captiva in South Korea

Defects force Daewoo to recall 58,000 cars
Seoul, South Korea | AFP March 21, 2010

GM Daewoo Auto and Technology has reported that it will recall 58,696 vehicles that it has made and sold in Winstrom (Captiva), Lacetti Premiere (Cruze) and Damas models due to manufacturing defects.

The recall will affect 45,957 Winstorm sport-utility vehicles, 12,604 Lacetti Premiere sedans and 135 Damas microvans.

GM Daewoo sells the Winstorm and the Lacetti Premiere models as Chevrolet Captiva and Chevrolet Cruze models worldwide.

Defective steering wheels were found in Winstorm models sold from 2006 to 2007 while flawed fuel hoses were discovered in Lacetti Premiere cars sold from 2009 to early 2010.

The affected 58,696 vehicles were sold in South Korea, a DM Daewoo spokesman told AFP, adding that the recall would spread to vehicles sold overseas.

"A recall will be announced in other countries, where the models were exported, but we have yet to get you the exact figure," the spokesman said.

Porsche has recalled all 11,300 Panameras

Porsche has recalled all 11,300 Panameras it has built and sold worldwide over a suspected fault with the seatbelt tensioners.

According to the US's road safety commission, the NHTSA, "if the Panamera's front seats are adjusted towards an extreme position, it is possible that the function of the locking mechanism of the seatbelt mount can no longer be guaranteed".

Therefore, in the event of a crash, the seatbelts “may not provide adequate protection for the seat occupant, which may increase the risk of injury or death", meaning they could become detached.

Panamera owners can take their car to their Porsche dealership to have an additional locking element fitted. All Porsche Centres in India have contacted their respective customers. A senior spokesperson from Porsche India has revealed that a flawless process is in place and it requires a minor repair and can be rectified in a very short time. The respective spare parts are available in all Porsche service centres in sufficient quantities.

There are no reports on any incidents and this is a preventative measure carried out at no cost to the customer.

Year of the Recalls - GM Recalls 198,000 Hummer H3s

GM is recalling the H3s to fix a portion of the hood that can detach during driving

NEW YORK -- General Motors said Wednesday that it is recalling all Hummer H3s produced since the 2006 model year to fix a portion of the hood that can detach during driving.

The voluntary recall affects 164,190 Hummer H3s and H3Ts in the U.S. and 198,404 worldwide.

Hummer spokesman Nick Richards said a device on the hood called a hood louver can come loose and possibly detach while driving.

A louver is a panel located on the hood that allows air to enter the engine compartment and prevent overheating. It actually helped to cool the engine on older Hummer models but is decorative on the H3.

In a recall documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, GM said the tabs holding the louver could fracture, causing it to rattle against the hood and become loose. GM warned the louver could strike another vehicle if it came off while driving.

Richards says the repair involves applying an adhesive to refasten the louver to the hood. He says there have been two complaints of the problem in the U.S. and three in Japan. GM said that Japanese transportation officials notified the company of the potential problem in January.

GM plans to send a bulletin to dealers outlining the fix this week, followed by a letter to Hummer owners next week on the recall. GM is in the process of shutting down Hummer after an attempt to sell the brand to a Chinese buyer fell through earlier this year.

Holy cow! Gotta watch out for the H3s now! A ton of them around where I live and work. The last thing I'd want is a 50-60lb sheet of metal come straight at me on the freeway.
2010 has got to be the year of the recalls!

saw another article where Honda has recalled 168,000 Acura TSX cars to fix power steering hoses that could deteriorate and cause fire in the hood but I dont think there are any in India however.

After just 5 complaints GM cared to recall 198,404 H3's, that's a positive in its own way!!
And look at the Japanese transportation officials they actually notified GM. And we in India still fight to avail the service we paid for.

Toyota to recall Lexus model due to engine defect

TOKYO: Toyota Motor will recall one of its top-of-the-line Lexus sedans worldwide because of an engine fault, a report said Thursday.

Tens of thousands of Lexus LS460 models will likely be affected by the recall, the Nikkei business daily said without citing sources.
A Toyota spokesman declined to confirm the report.
The Nikkei said that no accidents have been reported in connection with the fault, which causes the engine to stall unexpectedly.
Toyota was examining other models that use the same engine to see if they are also affected by the problem, the Nikkei said.
The world's largest automaker has been hit by a series of safety recalls and has pulled around 10 million vehicles worldwide since late last year.
