Honda recalls 554,000 SUVs in U.S. over headlights!

"Honda motor co. is recalling about 554,000 sport utility vehicles in the United States to inspect for faulty wiring in headlights.

Honda said in a statement that the recall affects CR-V SUVs from model years 2002 to 2004 and Pilot SUVs from model year 2003. The Japanese automaker will inspect and replace parts of the headlight wiring system that could fail, causing the low-beam headlights not to work and increase the risk of crash.

No injuries or crashes have been reported relating to the issue"

Focus cars from model year 2012 in the United States to repair a potential problem with the passenger-side windshield wiper motor, according to U.S. safety regulators.

A seal plug in the wiper motor electrical connector may be missing, allowing water into the motor's electrical connection, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That could result in an inoperative wiper on the passenger side, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India today said its operations are not impacted by the reported global recall of over 1 lakh Swift compact cars by its Japanese parent Suzuki.

"The Swift cars made and sold in India by Maruti Suzuki is not impacted by this recall," a Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) spokesperson said.

According to reports, Suzuki Motor Corp (SMC) today announced recalling about 1,09,000 units of hatchback Swift worldwide to repair a defect that may cause petrol leakage.

Quoting an SMC spokesperson, media has reported half of the recalls will take place in Japan.

The cars to be recalled were produced between September, 2010 and April, 2012, it said.

It is said out of the total recalls, 55,146 units were sold in the domestic market and 53,801 units were exported to various countries such as Australia, Mexico and European nations, the SMC spokesman was quoted.

According to media reports, Suzuki said in a statement that an inadequate connection on the rubber fuel filler hose may cause petrol leakage and four such cases have been reported in Japan, but they did not lead to any accidents.

"There have been no reports of such defects abroad," the spokesman was quoted in the news report.

Suzuki had launched a new Swift last year in India and other global markets. The previous Swift was produced at seven plants around the world and was sold in over 100 countries.

In India too, MSI had introduced the new version of the Swift at an aggressive introductory price starting from Rs 4.22 lakh to Rs 6.38 lakh in the highly competitive premium compact car segment.

Built on an all-new platform, MSI and its suppliers had invested over Rs 550 crore on the new car. The Swift has been a runaway success since its launch in India in 2005.

Chrysler recalls 67,872 Jeep Wrangler SUVs, could lead to potential vehicle fire!

Quote:
Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicles from the 2010 model year to fix a transmission problem that it said could lead to vehicle fires.

The automaker said in a filing with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday that the skid plate on certain 2010 Jeep Wrangler SUVs that protects the transmission is also close to the catalytic converter and can collect debris.

Should this occur, the debris can ignite without warning, potentially resulting in a vehicle fire, Chrysler said in the filing.

The safety recall is expected to begin this month.

GM recalls 4,300 cars in US for airbag issue

Quote:
Reuters / Thursday, May 24, 2012 17:42 IST
General Motors Co said on Thursday it is recalling 4,304 Chevrolet Malibu Eco cars sold in the United States to reprogram a module that controls airbag deployments.

The US automaker said in what it described as rare cases under extremely aggressive turning, the roof rail airbags in some 2013 model year Malibu Ecos might inflate. It also said in another scenario it described as rarer that the airbags and safety belt pretensioners might not deploy.

GM said no crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue. GM said it discovered the problem during a development test in which one of the cars was performing extreme maneuvers. It said letters will be mailed to car owners on June 1 with instructions to have the reprogramming done at no cost at a dealer.

It seems that the new Civic's problems never seem ending... first with low score in CSR (US), & now with a recall due to driveshaft issues . Refer below link-

It seems that Civic fans will recall the good-old Civic in folklore. Honda wake up... do not kill your cash cow.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of US has called for safety probe of 1.4 million Toyota vehicles including trucks. The ongoing investigation on Toyota cars has been expanded to a full-blown engineering analysis, after 161 incidents of fire were reported, which also injured nine people. Fortunately there have been no casualties reported due to this issue; also, no details about the severity of injuries are provided by NHTSA.

Chevy Cruze - complete recall in US & Canada

Quote:
General Motors will recall 413,418 Chevrolet Cruzes in the United States for the 2011 and 2012 model years to modify the engine shield under the vehicle. This change will help prevent any liquids from being trapped in the engine compartment, where a fire could start and spread.

In Cruzes with manual transmissions, continuing to drive with a completely worn clutch may cause hydraulic fluid to be expelled from the clutch housing vent hole. Under certain circumstances, the fluid could be burning as it exits the vent hole. If it contacts the engine shield, the shield may ignite and a fire may spread to the engine compartment.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary investigation in April of this year as a result of two engine compartment fires in 2011 model year Cruzes and later added the 2012 model year.

Modifying the engine shield will take about 30 minutes in a Chevrolet dealership service department and will be conducted free of charge.
