Rossi's experience shone through on the damp track, he perhaps knew that many of his competitors would take care of themselves for him; by sliding out, which many of them did!

BTW does the flag to flag clause come into effect only if it had rained before the race with the track drying up during the course of the race requiring a change in tyres?

From what I know, the race direction takes a call on the course of the race. There must be multiple parameters for them to check and arrive at a conclusion which will upheld the rider's safety.

I am not sure as to when the flag to flag comes in effect and that a rider has to pit. Must be in these conditions and or when rain is imminent.

The Flag to Flag race was more to do with the Rear Tyre blow out on Scott Redding's Bike during Q1. Initially both the rear tyre compounds were pulled out, then the same tyres used during the race but with a flag to flag scenario. The max laps that could be done was 10 laps and the riders had the lap 9, 10 and 11 as the window to swap the bikes.

Rossi was very good with the first bike, but on the 2nd bike he was struggling with the front grip, ran wide multiple times during the 2nd stint. Iannone the maniac would have to do some answering to the team. Lorenzo crashed out during the first stint itself (he was pretty much struggling all weekend).

Motogp is way more interesting and than the boring and dull F1 Race (sorry should call it as a parade). Next up is the US GP, a strong hold of Marquez with the 3 victories in the last 3 races. The Ducati's will fly on the long back straight of the track.

Love the way Rossi was hunting down MM in the first half of the race, it was riveting stuff - reminded me of last year's race.

The pit stops spoiled things quite a bit and Rossi couldn't find the rhythm he had before the bike swap.

Crazy Iannone was just a bit too crazy, surely Dovi will have a word or two for him.

LOL@99.

Cheers,
Parth

Rossi has said that he did not have rear tyre feel on the 2nd bike not front as most suspected. Anwyay...

AI has been awarded 1 penalty point and 3 grid places for next week's race for his collison with AD. Poor Ducatis...

This time around according to the official statement from the Race direction, the race would have been of 25 laps hadn't it rained during the warm-up.
But since it did rain, the race was declared to be a flag to flag race of 20 laps.
Marquez's move while coming out of the pit stop ahead of Tito Rabat, was quite brilliant as Rossi had to take on Rabat as well to catch up to Marc who felt much confident on the second bike and finished 7.6 seconds ahead of Rossi.

The crashes were unfortunate, especially for the Ducatis. And seemed like it was the survival of the fittest, as Bradley Smith managed to finish sixth even after running wide into the grass in the early stages of the race(Reminder of the Misano last year?).

All in all, an entertaining race.

The best race of the day was obviously Pawi in Moto3. Brave ride on slicks in wet conditions and that too to finish 25 seconds in the lead was breath taking. First time the team asking some one to slow down in all the final laps!!

Whattay coincidence that the both riders at the second position in the final corner both Moto3 (Adam Nooroddin) and Motogp (Dovi) had to push their bikes to the finish line!

Iannone is the second Italian on the grid whose ambition seems to be outweighing his talent! lol:

He was too ambitious in the first corner and nearly wiped off Marquez. Pedrosa did well to save himself. Then the move on Rossi in the final stages of the race was aggressive and then wiping out Dovi on the final corner.

He did revive the championship of both Rossi and Pedrosa in one shot. They stand second and third now!!

Robot Lorenzo seems to need an operating range to function well and changing conditions seems to be his nemesis.

Also showed how two race bikes can be entirely different as in the case of MM and VR. MM took his least favorite bike first and Rossi vice-versa.
Rossi on his favorite bike was able to keep up with MM on his second favorite bike (raised a few hopes for repeat) but not vice versa.

The podium celebration of Marquez was funny. He crashed on the podium!
Rossi still seem to have animosity towards Marquez and the petulant podium body language very evident that he didnt enjoy Marquez company. Marquez was his cheerful self. MM seemed to have goatten over last year's incident.

Can anybody point me out to the logic why there was a bike swap required in Motogp? I missed the Pre Race. It might have costed Rossi the Race.

Thank you

Rachit

Because the tires were suspect to last the race distance. Also the back up tires Michelin had to cover the emergency conditions could not be tested because the track was wet in the morning. So race direction had a repeat of PI2013 wherein the two sets of tires were used for the race distance which meant they had to do a pit stop in between to change the bikes.

Dont think it was the tires that cost Rossi the race. It was MM. Last year MM goofed up the hard tire choice which resulted in the spectacle. This year both were on the same tires but albeit on their favorite bike in different halves of the race.

Will anyone be at the Austin MotoGP this weekend?

Its a 90 min drive, so thinking why miss it? I am planning to go, but completely new to the area, track and worst...all alone. I am not tracking the race much, but love the machines and racing in general.

That was a pretty packed race, and way way WAY lucky for the master.
That pace from Marquez is a little worrying.

Please watch the first corner again, I think AI was just trying to avoid Dani and that caused everything else

No. They werent even close on the original lines. He went in too fast. Grabbed a handful of brake and with a bucking and weaving bike beneath him hit the rear of Marquez, broke the seat mounted camera, then ran wide into the lines of Pedrosa, who, made the adjustment to run wide and lose several places in the process. It was probably karmic that the same Iannone set in motion a chain of events in the final corner that gave Pedrosa the final podium albeit at his expense.

.

Is it not the front which provides most of the feel? On the motogp bikes the rear steps out on hard braking at corner entrances anyways.

Rossi was also sticking out his leg frequently while preparing to lean at corner entrances which suggested that he wasnt sure how the front would behave:confused:
