Wow, that's some Qualifying in Hungaroring. Max and Perez should have overtook Hamilton during the out lap, when he was deliberately slowing down. Max has improved even after that, should have gone ahead of Hamilton and atleast could have got the front row.

However, the Mercedes are back and how, they are the team to beat and seems to have unearthed some more speed starting from Silverstone. And with both Mercedes starting on mediums, when everyone else in Top 10 in softs, should be a cakewalk for them to finish 1-2 tomorrow.

I doubt Max can put a lap faster then Lewis since the condition of the track worsened. Also since silverstone Mercedes especially Lewis has been mega fast on qualifying with all purple sectors, those upgrades came at a crucial time.

The orange army as usual they cheer when Lewis goes off the track and boo when he wins, this was the case even before Silverstone.
After the pathetic attitude of Redbull, they deserve this.

The 7 time world champion is seriously behaving weird. Silverstone as well as today.

Where is the sportsmanship dude?

Ego and being behind in the competition seems to be affecting the mental stability.

Anyways, can't say much as everything gets swept under the thick rug of racism.

I believe Max could have set a better lap time in the final Q3 untill the defending champion decided to play spoil sport. Max is a fantastic driver and RB has finally given him a winning car. Also affected Perez as he could not eve cross the line before the chequerd flag.

And what's up with Daniel, the guy literally is struggling with the McLaren, its high time he gets his stuff right.

What do you think if Daniel and Sainz swap seats?

Easy there.

When you take a look at that wider picture and what all of the other drivers ahead were doing, then the picture that emerges looks different. Gasly is running his own outlap at a moderate pace, which meant that Leclerc and Alonso ended up being closer to Gasly than they hoped for.

That then resulted in Leclerc slowing down at Turn 11, as he wanted to try and create a bit of a gap to Gasly ahead of him. That then has the effect of making all the drivers behind also start backing off – Alonso slowed down to create a gap to try and create a gap to Leclerc, which in turn meant Norris and Ocon slowed down to create a gap to Alonso .

In turn, as Norris and Ocon slowed down to try and create a gap to Alonso, that meant that Bottas, too, slowed down to create a gap to them in the final turns , which in turn backed up Hamilton, Verstappen and Perez.
To me, when you look at that wider context and at what the drivers at the head of the queue were doing, I’d say that it looks more like the drivers in front slowing down, with that cascading all the way down the line to eventually cause problems for those at the tail (i.e. the two Mercedes and two Red Bull drivers).

If you still believe it was not deliberate by Lewis, then let it be. He has started playing games with Max right from the pitlane, looking at his rear view mirrors and slowing down. But, hey, all this is part and parcel of the game and there is no violation there, who could forgot that Monza comedy of errors few years back.

My grouse is with Max and Perez who could have gone ahead of Lewis, but they chose to play chicken with a 7 time world champion and we know there will be only one winner.

Don't believe track has slowed down considerably, Max has indeed improved upon his earlier time but I doubt whether he would have been at pole considering the mega gap between them, but he could have gotten the front row and would have a good chance to go wheel to wheel with Lewis in the race. But now he has to deal with Bottas first.

That was brilliant from Lewis. Mind games? For sure. It was nothing illegal, nor on the borderline. Max likes to make passes, he should have just gone on. Or maybe the pit wall should have asked Perez to make a pass, since they would have had a counting down clock in front if their face.
I just feel bad for Norris in that lot.

Remember the circus in Italy a couple years ago? Cars stay behind because there's often an advantage to going last, but playing beat the clock always has a chance of ending in tears.

Teams choose when they put their drivers out on track, so it's on them if they end up where they didn't want to be. Your opponent will do what's best for them, not you. The delta (slowest you can go around a lap before getting penalized) at Hungaroring is about 1:31?

For what it's worth, Christian Horner said there was nothing wrong with it, and Verstappen had nothing to say about it either.

Media trying to manufacture another handbags moment?

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

Let the games (manship) begin. Abu Dhabi 2016 would have given Hamilton plenty of practice.

I am pretty sure that how ever this panned out, Merc would have released Hamilton ahead of Verstappen. This is not a spur of the moment strategy...it is an extremely well thought out approach at not leaving any quarter unturned.

The only way Redbull could have staved this off was to let Verstappen start his final lap well ahead of the dying minutes. But I guess the thought was that track was becoming faster as the session progressed and most of them left it to the end.

Anyway, I think both the Red Bulls are close enough to create mischief. Overtaking Bottas would be key as he would be used as the blocker for the Red Bulls. Gasly and Alonso can be unknowns too who can derail the strategies of either teams.

one think is clear - all the talk of fair play, the great hunger to have close and hard battles is a load of crock. The reactions of the two teams especially Mercedes who have been at the pinnacle say it all. The fun part is that since 2016 and Nico Rosberg Mercedes have a fight on their hand which is good for F1.

Pity about Sainz though. The Mclaren Ferrari battle too is heating up.

Drive on,
Shibu

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

Chaotic start at Hungaroring, with 4 cars out already in 2 laps and session red flagged. Once again, Max is at the receiving end but from the other Mercedes this time. Bottas made a mess of the start and hope Red Bull can repair Max's car in time of the restart.

What a chaotic start and carnage at the first corner.

Mercedes will be smiling under their masks.

Bottas has done a solid for Mercedes to help them take back the championship lead in both Driver and Constructor.

The slow starters are rewarded handsomely with Ocon is 2nd, Vettel in 3rd and a leapfrogging Sainz in 4th from 15th.
