Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

Brilliant, Brilliant performance from Alonso. He was defending and being very smart about how he held Lewis off. Great drive from both the Williams, 6 points for them! Max was covering ground on mediums though and he'll be hopefully back at Belgium.

Mercedes must look like stars at this point with that call on strategy. Maybe it was a fluke, or maybe it was good. I'll let them have this.

Seb & Esteban, these guys just made my day today. That podium was enough to make me feel better for Bottas crashing out.

What a great great great race!
If not for that pesky alonso...

But man oh man. Brilliant drive from all the guys. I was half hoping for a podium of Alonso vettel and Hamilton. That would have been a blast from the last decade, man.

But what a drive from the champion. Being in front, it would have been a stone in his stomach to see not one other car on the grid. And to come back from that so strongly...... Brilliant!!

Don't forget the brilliant drives by both William's driver to come in 8th and 9th. Best results for them.

And a great day for France, a French Driver in a French Car with a French Engine taking the win.

If it had continued to rain, more cars would have not finished and Bottas would have been anyway not scoring points (Turkey 2020 rain, Imola 2021) he is not good in a wet track.
Bottas now got a 5 place grid penalty.

I think there was lot of cheer when Lewis overtook Alonso and Sainz. It just that directly in front of podium/interview place is a grandstand that is all Orange(strategic decision by orange army) so expect the boos each race.

I think in at Dutch grandprix Lewis may need physical security.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

The most exciting race of the season yet!

Beautiful drive by both the Alpine drivers, great teamwork, Alonso holding out Hamilton so Ocon gets his finish, amazing. Although, I did secretly want a Alonso, Vettel & Ham podium too.

Talking of the other drivers on the grid, there was no way Max could’ve finished any higher with that kind of damage. Leclerc was a blameless victim in the crash also Stroll couldn’t have stopped after entering the grass area. Mick proved today that he is worth so much more given the right car, this man is as competitive as his father.

Now coming to the person who took half the grid out, Bottas made an error, a simple under braking error that anyone could’ve made on a damp track and has been given a 5 place grid penalty for the next race. The fun part is the memes on Instagram relating to the crash, do give them a read for a good laugh.

What a drive by Alonso. We got to see some vintage Alonso today. I can not believe he is 40.He has even got people calling him Wallonso , for the way he blocked Lewis for those few laps. And that was very important in helping Esteban win.

Ocon drove a fantastic race today. He deserved this win. Drove beautifully under pressure after being chased by Seb. A perfect result to make the doubters silent.

And for Seb , drove very well . Could have also overcut Ocon if he had a smoother pit stop. But as a Seb fan I am happy with second.

Shout out to Lewis for his recovery drive to 3rd and the Alpine crew for their performance.

A bit of topic. What do all of you think about Nico's commentary? I want him to become a permanent fixture alongside Crofty and Bundle. He gives pretty good insights.

He should be a permanent fixture, the man gives pretty good insights about the players and the track. Although if you listen closely you can still see the Hamilton vs Nico rivalry through some of his comments which is great, he just knows Hamilton too well.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

What a race, the wily old fox Alonso made sure his team mate wins and hold off his old foe Hamilton much longer than anyone expected, to the point that Hamilton started getting restless in his radio.

Ocon drove a beautiful race under immense pressure and didn't make a single mistake and paid back his team's faith on him with a win. Feel sorry for Vettel, tried to overtake Ocon for the entire race but couldn't do it in this narrower circuit, must have hurt him real bad.

Bottas got a 5 place grid penalty for next race, deservedly so, making a basic mistake that cost 4 others their race.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

It's one thing to catch up, it's another thing to pass but it's amplified if it's car no 14 driven by a legend. What a man! What a driver! Qualifying in Austria, then sprint race in Silverstone and now in Hungary. He really sealed the win for the team today.

Lewis almost took off 8 seconds on sebastian in the last 3 laps. In the end the gap between lewis and seb was just under a second, another 3 more laps Lewis would have won the race.

Kudos to the williams drivers for holding off the big boys, finally points for them.
Mick needs a better car. His defences were just amazing. Overall a great race.

The way Lewis shaved off the margin of Vettel after getting pass Alonso is dramatic. If not that Alonso's awesome defence, am sure Hamilton would be the winner. Lewis knew the danger of not being cautious with unyielding Alonso

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

My heart goes out to Red Bull. They must be feeling that Lady Luck has just not deserted them but is then proceeding to beat them black and blue. What a couple of rotten races they are having. Having their cars knocked out through no fault of theirs.

Leclerc called it right "bowling" pins. The joke of the day was Lewis complaining "That could be dangerous man..at those speeds" when Alonso put the squeeze on him after turn 4. Hilarious. Copse i guess is a slow corner after all!

To me Alonso was the driver of the day. What a magnificent piece of defending he did against Lewis. Was instrumental in Ocon winning the raise. But for his solid defence Lewis would have won the race. Plain and simple.

Vettel on the contrary seems to have Lady luck smiling on him. He made heavy weather of try to pass Ocon throughout the race but for once his poor start ensured he was at the right place at the right time. I would have thought that the Aston Martin was so much faster the the Alpine but it seems that the only car that had a substantial speed advantage was Mercedes.

Russell after promising for so long finally opens up his point tally with Williams. Gasly and Tsunoda picking up valuable points for Alfa Romeo.

In the McLaren - Ferrari battle, Sainz who overcooked his qualifying emerged as Ferrari's saviour. With both McLaren's out those were valuable points he netted for his team. If Alonso had held Lewis back for a couple of laps more he might have just had a podium.

But then if Bottas had not torpedoed into the back of Norris....

Drive on,
Shibu

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix | Hungaroring | 30 July - 1 August, 2021

Sainz was hoping it would rain, after his qualifying mishap. Although it rained, and made his day, but ruined for lot of others.
Another foot in their mouth incident for Mercedes, albeit generating some much needed overtakes.
All top 5 drove beautifully, especially Sainz and Alonso.
Happy that Vettel scored another podium, and both Williams scoring points. I guess first points for Latifi , and first for Russel with Williams.
Coming to Ocon, he already had a better qualifying, and was at the right place at the right time. All he needed to do is drive flawlessly, much like his compatriot Gasly did at Monza last year.

Fun fact :
Lewis was leading the race comfortably in Monza, much like today, until the own goal. In both races, it was a French driver who won.

Previous first time winners at Hungaroring, Damon Hill, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button. All of them went on to become world champions.

Hamilton was looking particularly wasted at the end of the race. Don’t remember him looking so wasted in the post race celebrations ever. Seems he is suffering from long Covid symptoms. Lucky for him the summer break starts now.

Cheers

Good racing though that is giving us.
It wasn't blunder by Mercedes. It was sheer presence of mind from Ocon and that was followed by the rest of the pack. Keep in mind, Radio traffic is not allowed during formation lap. Ocon dived to pit after looking at track during formation lap while Hamilton had already crossed Pit lane entry. So that goes to Ocon's brilliance.

Coming to race:

1. RBR is down on luck currently. 1 car DNF and other severely damaged without any fault of theirs, that too at at very crucial time of season.

2. Max was offered slicks before restart and should have taken that. It would have ensured him finishing much higher in points.

3. Sheer brilliance from Ocon on diving into Pits at last minute and going on sleeks. HAM should have thought about that.

4. Schume Jr. deserves a much better car. He defended his position against seasoned drivers in much inferior car with older tires.

5. Old fox Alonso showed why is the best on grid even now. With much inferior car compared to Mercedes and at least 10 laps older tires, it was amazing to see how he defended against Ham for those 4 laps.

6. HAM complaining on Alonso - check out Alonso's post race response.

7. SEB was unlucky as his pit stop was longer otherwise he would have undercut Ocon easily.

8. Lastly, Nico should feature more often as commentator. He brought fresh air with much more technical/inside knowledge. Also, his comments on HAM staying at his apartment when hAM moved to Monaco and he missing one of his watch after HAM's stay was cheeky.

Overall, hard luck for RBR and others taken out by Bottas. But, it was one of the best race so far in this season.

Vettel may lose second place as sufficient fuel sample could not be collected from his car after the race. https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...GNO8NFUcT.html
