Thanks for the link.
A small query: Is it safe to use Kerosene/Diesel to clean the car--get rid of black spots on the sideline which cannot be washed away easily. The SC guy told me its fine if I use kerosene or diesel BUT NOT PETROL. What do you guys have to say??

re: 2011 Hyundai i20 Asta. EDIT : 62000 km up and EPS module changed twice

A Small Update.

The car is running fine. No issues whatsoever. Only that the passenger seat rattles and I am fed up of asking the A.S.S guys to fix the rattles.

What I did yesterday:
Called up the beauty parlour and gave i-catcher a facial.

(Got the i-catcher polished yesterday. I am very very very satisfied. )

Now you gotta see the chehre ka chamak on my baby. LOLZ..
Some details:-

Time Taken: 3-3.5 Hrs

Material used: 3M

Paid: Rs.1000.

Some other points: Their charges vary depending on the cars. The guys are extremely professional and i must say they brought back the "new car" look. Lets see how long I can hold on to the shine. I have attached some pictures. It is not evident from the pics though. One has to see the i-catcher in flesh. Also that I have taken the pics from my phone.

P.S: Do check out the tyres.

Hehe, glad to see your car shining like new. One word of advice. If that liquid shine on the tyre pleases you, I'd suggest buy a bottle of Armorall Tyre Foam (available with Minku or any good accessories store). Works like a dream. Just spray on and leave. The shine is amazing, so is the protection.

This is what the product looks like:

re: 2011 Hyundai i20 Asta. EDIT : 62000 km up and EPS module changed twice

A minor update:

I had given the car for some repairs at the Spring Hyundai workshop. The left rear door along with left quarter panel had a pretty big dent with loads of scratches. It had even began to rust. Got it in my own parking. Insurance took care of it. The job done is impeccable. Absolutely love it. Now my car is almost spotless. Well there are the front and rear bumpers which I will get repainted in November. The service guys wax polished the car as well.

Charges: Rs. 1784/-

The only downside was that the i-catcher was away for 7 whole days.

Otherwise, the service of Spring Hyundai is pretty good(unlike the showroom experience).

re: 2011 Hyundai i20 Asta. EDIT : 62000 km up and EPS module changed twice

Steering noise:

The car has been doing well as I mentioned earlier. During my 1st first paid service the SA pointed out that my car has the steering rattling problem and he will get it rectified under warranty. He said he will call me within 15 days and he really does. On Tuesday morning he calls me and tells me the part has arrived. So today I took the car they changed the yoke. They claimed that this particular yoke plug is from the new gen. I cant recall how many times I mentioned to them Skanchan's case and told them that only a steering rack replacement rectified the issue but they didn't seem to budge. They kept on saying after replacing the issue hasn't resurfaced.

Mileage: 8600Kms
Part No. 577370X000QQH

Coming to the other issues:

To tell you guys the truth I havent really been enjoying the car lately. The car is just 19 months old and it already seemed that it was aging and that too not very graciously. The sole reason being the noises the car made. Sometimes it was the passenger seat or it was the left front door or it was the dash. Even when the music the played out loud the noises could be heard. It was something I was finding very hard to get used to. However, I got most of it rectified today. Now the i-catcher is 90% soundless and cabin is a lot more quieter. I must say the Spring Hyundai guys work very hard and they did manage to solve the issues but still I just cant say "wow" or "they are awesome". Anyway, I hope to keep the car for atleast 5-6 years. It is very very close to my heart. Thankfully all the issues are external and minor. Hope the journey with the Hyundai family is a little better than what it is at present.

By any chance, did you get the front passenger seat rattle( when no one is sitting on it) rectified? I was told it cannot be rectified and it has to be lived with.

As for changing he yoke plug/urethane pad, if you got through various threads, it was one of the first fixes Hyundai tried during initial days of steering rattle issues being reports. They kept on stating that "no one has reported steering rattle" after the installation/replacement of the plug/pad. Yet, only days later, they were forced to accept it was not the solution. Then they claimed they changed material used on making the plug/pad. Even that fix did not work in the long run. This issue has a long and troubled history.

Lets hope the fix works for you but like you said, they are not giving any guarantees. That only speaks volumes of how confident these Hyundai chaps are about the fix. Eventhough Hyundai will not acknowledge it openly, the truth is that the steering rattle issue's causes are design flaws in the rack/column design.

I am frustrated now. They just won't. I have given reference of your car innumerable times but they don't seem to listen.

UPDATE
Its been 2 days and the rattling sounds are back.

1) There is a very weird sound that comes from the steering. It is not exactly a rattle but more like a plastic vibration or a very silent diesel engine. And it comes up even when driving on smooth roads. This has been happening for the past 2 months. I had mentioned this to the SA couple of days back but he said yoke plug will solve all the issues. Now I am really frustrated. It is a good car no doubt but I am just not being able to enjoy it.

2) The left front door rattle is back. They rectified it day before yesterday but it has cropped up again. I am not really satisfied.

@Pancham.
I too am facing the steering rattle problem. I have the same 2011 model as yours and its a petrol too. The only solution to this problem is to replace the steering column, rack with the new i-gen i20's steering column. I going to do this in my next service.

I pointed out this problem everytime during the service, but the rattles cropped up again and again. I am really frustrated by this problem. I will replace it for free as my car is still under warranty.

I suggest that you should also try replacing the steering column.

Anyways, let's see what happens. Hoping for the best.

Hi. The rattling sound is thankfully gone. I don't hear it anymore. I am 13000km now. Hope it stays like this .

Update:
The car went through a brake pad and disc change today. ODO reads 26500 Kms. There was a whistling noise whenever I braked. The service advisor had suggested I change my pads and disc at 22K Kms. However, I did not see any difference in braking hence delayed it.
The pads cost me INR 1400 and discs 2800 a pair. The total bill came to INR 5140 including labour and taxes.

I have complained about the high cost of maintenance of Hyundai cars but I am quite satisfied with my service center. The entire work was done in an hour. I did not even have an appointment. I just walked in.
When I pulled in, a service advisor, evaluating another car, heard the noise and said "brake er kaaj sir?" (Is it the brakes sir?) with a smile. I said Yes and the car was out of the showroom in an hour. Impressive.

Any advice on running in the new brakes?

P.S I have decided I will service my car at 10K/1 year intervals.

26k is very premature for disc change. Whistling noise also comes if pad has uneven wear. You could have changed the pads first and evaluated the noise before changing the discs.

Ps: see the groove on the brake pad? As long as the Grove is visible you need not change the pad. It still has life left in it. I have also changed all the front brake pads prematurely because I was taken for a ride by the service guys. Next time I will visually inspect the pads before giving a go ahead for the change . Running on 3rd replacement set in 58k kms. For diesel, brake pads last 20k.
