This is one good thread to read and one good car to look at. I stll regret not buying this at times. Wish you another lakh happy trouble free kms. It's always nice to read about such vehicles that serve their masters well for long. Many times I get tired of reading about all the Maruti bashing on other social medias, people fail to see the good in things and only focus on negativity.

And I thought my City idtec 1,20,000km service bill for 10k was excessive. Few items in that bill could have been avoided by service center but then they have to fleece the customer as usual. Good job on maintaining the interiors :thumbs up

Thank you !

I don't think you had any replacements in your car at the 1,20,000 km mark. This service in my car has some major replacements as in timing chain kit and suspension components.

A regular PMS which involves fluids/filters change costs me just 7-8k .

Thank you mate! :)

Though Maruti makes reliable, frugal cars, they do deserve some bashing for their utter disregard for safety (not willing to even test their cars with GNCAP) and sheet metal quality.

But you know what, most online comments bashing Maruti come from guys who don't have much knowledge about cars nor experience in owning a car/cars.

Update :

I asked the Nexa service not to do wheel alignment, as the service centers seldom do a proper job at that.

I have a FNG that specializes at wheel alignment and also sells tyres (bought my previous Continental MC5 from them). They do a wonderful job.

Gave the ciaz for wheel balancing, rotation and alignment. I had a small conversation with the owner and he told that it will be very hard to source continental/Michelin tyres, at least for another year. That's sad!

The current set of Michelin P4ST has clocked 15,000 km and looks like 40% of its life is already over.

I couldn't find any information regarding timing chain in my owner's manual (I drive an S cross). I asked the SA when is the timing chain replacement recommended and he said Maruti recommends changing at 80k KMS but it should last well beyond a 100k.

Does the Ciaz manual say that it needs replacement at 100k KMS? If it is indeed a 100K KMS I intend to proactively replace at 80k. BTW I have done just 51k still in 3 years:uncontrol

I don't understand why maruti service personnel are so vague when it comes to timing chain replacement. My friend who has a 120k run 4 year old ciaz which was sent to service today at ABT maruti Chennai. The service guy has told him that the timing chain is good and can be replaced at 130k km service.

Even for being proactive, 80k is too early by maruti standards.

Fiat recommends replacing it at 90k if I understand correctly. Maruti lacks clarity. I couldn't find any information in owner's manual(I checked the maintenance schedule) and service centres are clueless. We are not sure what Maruti standards are.:Shockked:

From my experience, it should be fine till 1 lakh km. My timing chain was still problem free even at 1.2 lakh km. No noise no vibrations, nothing. From your usage, 80k may take another couple of years. 5 years is probably a good time to replace the timing kit, if you are very cautious. But I would hold it till the 6 digit mark though.

Surprising to know that ABT dealer doesn't have many 1L+ driven Fiat 1.3 MJDs................ BTW MS's 90HP timing chain replacement is done at 120K km. Fiat recommends now 90K km for any of their MJD cars. My punto is due for TC replacement during next service. This phase is rebirth for these diesel mills.

Are you sure about this? I have read conflicting views on timing chain replacement for FIAT MJDs. My Linea Classic Plus MJD 75 bhp is at 51k odo now and I remember the SA telling me the next service at 60k is a major one with timing chain replacement and would cost between 20 to 25 k INR. I have read in some places that the TC change is required at 90k and some say 120k. Not sure what is right. The manual, which I think is common for MJD 75HP, MJD 90HP and Tjet, also does not state it clearly.

I want to stick to Fiat recommendation but I am not sure whether it's at 60k or 90k odo. There's this added confusion because the Multijet in Linea is available in 2 avatars 75bhp and 90bhp. Linea Multijet 75 bhp is very very rare to find so I was under the opinion that they suggested the regular schedule of 90 bhp Linea for TC replacement which is at 60k odo.

Someone who drives a 75 bhp Multijet Punto (not the 90bhp one) maybe able throw some light on when's the recommended TC replacement schedule as per their manual.

I am also sure about this because of my own experience.

I had replaced the chain kit for the Ertiga only around 120K. I had on earlier occasions insisted at MASS about replacement and this at more than one MASS so I get a different point of view. But at both these places they were very clear that there was no need to replace the chain even at 1L.

As far as I was told, there is a clear direction on this by MSIL. A distinct noise needs to be heard. And even after this noise first surfaces, a window of 10,000 kms in which you can replace the chain. I was assured of this and one even said he would make me listen to one of such cars that had come for a chain replacement.

Even my SA told that the chain will be replaced based on a distinct noise heard from the Engine bay indicating that the chain has become weak (loose links).

Also, many friends owning a Swift or Dzire who have crossed 1.2 Lac kms haven't replaced the chain as yet. But then, imagine the damage to engine is the chain breaks and snaps!!! It's catastrophic. Will replace the chain around 110-115K interval for sure.

Going by the number of FGT and VGT Marutis on road, I would trust the ASC folks there.

TC snap or break is every car lover's nightmare. So, I would want to go strictly by FIAT (or Maruti Suzuki) recommendation and not what the SA (aka service fleecer) or the stealerships recommend.

And no! This recommendation is not due to a dream that the service center chap had that one night. It is followed across service centers :).

Just that I too want to see the SOP on paper that MSIL recommends, even if it is about identifying the noise and then the replacement.

This is the reason why I took opinion at 2 places. Also, when I replaced mine, I never asked anyone after this but simply got it replaced at around 120k, along with water pump.

The replacement of most parts in my cars are always proactive, till date and this is applicable for both my cars where one has crossed 2.5L and other one is few thousand clicks away from 2L.

Fiat has issued a circular to FASS that all diesel engines manufactured after April 2015 has new design TC kit with life of 90k km in them. However new kit that will be installed at FASS will have a life of 90k km. Earlier for 90 hp it was 60k km. Please have a chat with FASS reg new kit and have a note of your engine code too. Mine is Aug 2015 manufactured 90hp punto. I've not yet changed TC so far. ODO at 82k km. Hopefully next service I will do this repair. Let me check if I can PM you communication on this.

Wrote to FIAT and received a reply some time ago. Pasting it here

"Thank you for your communication and query, for MJD 76ps please get checked for timing chain elongation during your service schedule, check are recomended from 45K KM onwards, if the chain elongation is close to the higher limited ,Dealer will recomend for replacement.

For 90ps MJD it's recommended for checks as well as replacement at 60K KM."

So, the inference is for 76ps there's no strict rule to get it replaced at 60k. Just check at every service and get it replaced if deemed necessary. I feel it's best to get it replaced sometime between 60k to 90k.

Mine is Jan 2016 manufactured.
