A question on the suspension. Does it bottom out easily since the suspension setup is soft. Also how does the handling feel above 120kmph on the highways. Reason for asking is that I'm considering a sedan as well, and the Ciaz is too tempting with its 1.5DDIS.

Nope the suspension doesn't bottom out, even in full load.

I am very confident with the handling post 120 kmph, and yes, I do a lot of highway runs where even the average speed is well above that. I have had no issues with handling.

1.5 ddis is a superb engine but I don't like that 6 speed gearbox somehow. Did not slot as fine as the 5 speed in my 1.3. Or may be, it is because the test drive car isn't well maintained.

Thanks Prasanna. The gearbox isn't as slick as the 1.3 and wasn't an issue with the test drive vehicle. I frequently drive my colleagues 1.5DDIS and it feels the same.

Washed the car today

"My 2015 Maruti Ciaz ZDI - 1,33,000 km completed : Now Sold-img_20190923_0744423532.jpg

I was having new car buying ideas, and visited a few showrooms.

Skoda Rapid : I love this car, and they are giving 2.2 lakh discounts on Ambition diesel variant. Only drawback was the limited space in comparison to ciaz. Quoted 5.75 lakhs for ciaz. No exchange bonus. Moreover no more red or blue shades in Ambition variant.

Maruti Scross : Didn't like the car much, but it was decently spacious and interior quality was good. Car felt slower due to heavier kerb weight. they are giving 1.9 lakh discounts on Delta variant. Quoted 6 lakhs exchange value + 35k exchange bonus.

Tata Nexon : Definitely felt like a downgrade from the ciaz. But it was reasonably spacious and it was okay to drive. Discounts just about 50k and exchange value of ciaz was 6. I wanted a sedan but tried scross and nexon just because I had time and wanted to know what resale they are offering.

Meanwhile posted an ad in olx for my car , quoting 7.27 lakhs as the price. I decided I would give it away if I got anything closer to 7. The max I got was 6.45 lakhs.

I then realised the market is going to value my car only on the basis of the figure on the odo, and they just didn't consider how well maintained the car is.

50k or even a lakh is not a big deal but then, selling away a perfectly working , loved and cared car for throwaway price felt like an insult to the car as well as the passion and effort I have put into it. Meanwhile, I also asked for advise in the forum and GTO had suggested that I keep the car for a couple more years. Even if I bought the rapid by spending an additional 5.5 lakhs, I still won't find the value for that money, though the driving experience will be superior, but comfort and space are a mild downgrade. My ciaz still looks and feels like new. I finally decided that I am not selling it.

Now it is time for some pampering the car. I am waiting for the odo to clock 1,00,000 km. My car has been ultra reliable. I hope I clock some serious mileage before my mind gets swayed to selling ideas.

Planned additions:

1. Window shades
2. Complete interior cleaning and new floor mats
3. 205 section tyres(yes you heard that right)

Congrats on keeping a well maintained car and on the decision to keep her rolling. I am sure the car will reward you with many trouble free miles ahead. The Rapid/Vento are quite frankly ageing models and replacing the Ciaz with them would have been, what the word would be "side-grade" maybe:D. 205 section will definitely improve the ride quality and make the car look sexier. Maybe a new set of alloys could also be added to further the appeal, not that the factory ones are bad.

Any particular reason to start looking for a new car? I'm glad you're going to continue using it a little more. Paragsachania's review has proved that the 1.3 diesel is very reliable. I'm sure the Ertiga and the Ciaz share a lot of parts.

There aren't many cars that can match the Ciaz. The City is overpriced (especially diesel variants) and the Vento/Rapid/Verna/Yaris are cramped.

Add a remap/tuning box?

No particular reason except for the bad family habit of replacing cars every 3 to 4 years. Actually I have bought at least one new vehicle every year.
2015 - Ciaz
2016 - Kwid Celerio & preowned CBR250R
2017 - preowned Duke 390 & New RC390
2018 - Safari Storme V400

And naturally, ciaz being the oldest in our garage, my dad keeps telling me to exchange it for a new car. :)

I am extremely satisfied with ciaz and have zero complaints.

I am averse to remaps and tuning boxes due to reliability concerns. They say it is pretty reliable if you don't drive pedal to metal all the time. I almost floor my car all the time!!

Moreover I find the performance adequate to me, this, coming from a guy who feels RC390 a bit slow on the highway :D Seriously, ciaz can be interesting and fast if you can keep it over 2000 RPM. We really were surprised when we found out our ciaz maintained higher highway speeds more comfortably(can't mention here due to forum rules) than even our rapid 1.6, which did feel noisy and strained doing those speeds for prolonged durations.

The ciaz is a pretty light car and in my opinion, can be quite fast if driven well , and hence the thought of a performance mod did not arise so far. Moreover I am not the guy who cares about 0-100 timings, the stock in gear timings are pretty satisfactory provided you keep it in the turbo zone.

@Sumeet, yes 16 inch aftermarket alloys are definitely in my radar. Though they look amazing, I am worried if I would lose on the plush ride quality that the 15 inchers offer me currently. Mine currently runs on 195 section 15 inch stock alloys.

Update :

Installed magnetic window shades. INR 1500. Fit was almost ok, a few mm bigger than it should be, but not an issue though.

The car looks like the windows got darker tints from outside. The interior feels darker and hence cooler :)

Most important reason why I wanted this was because I can roll down my windows after morning gym sessions to enjoy cold morning breeze , without having to worry about dust entering and settling down on the neat black dash.

What an elegant, proper 3 box mid sizer!

This would call for a challan in NCR, or maybe probably whole of India.
No obstruction on windows allowed - be it tints, magnetic curtains, black shades or even newspapers.

No issues here in my city. I drive my kwid with totally black tints. Moreover these shades can be removed within seconds.

Ciaz's 5th Ayudha Pooja :)

Hi Prasanna,
Your ownership review was a big help in deciding to go for the Ciaz myself! I am still hesitant about putting down an ownership review, seeing the company that I will be in! Could you please let me know where you got these shades? Would love to get them for my Ciaz as well. Being in Chennai and with two kids in the backseat, these will be really useful for me!

Cheers,
Ashwin

PS: Just did the first Ayudha Poojai for my Ciaz!

Hey Ashwin
Congrats on the Ciaz!

I bought it here at a local accessories dealer. There was no brand name on the shades. It was just written ciaz on it.

It has been 4 years and 3 months and I still take pics of the ciaz at every given opportunity. Guess, I love the car :) What an elegant car!

Found something similar on Amazon after reading your post. Maybe will try them out and hope they fit!
