@BHAGWAN : Was confirming with you as, whenever I turned off my car, I have noticed that the steering wheel tilt slightly towards left with a "khat" sound and the steering position resembles the steering position in your pic. Think, its common in Polo.

Rear bumper - paint+replacement would be 10K+ (between 10K-11k) as per Last week`s info. on Red. I believe yours is metallic paint, so price may differ slightly.

Yes, you can get it painted outside, but please make sure about color matching, in that case you can save at most 2-2.5K not more than that.

BTW : Just sharing one info - the bumper if it is to be replaced, I think we can ask for that damaged bumper to be returned back to us, which can be sold and it would fetch anything between 500 -1000/- max. I am saying this as I am told that Polo`s bumper material is not avaialable in market ( for local garage guys to buy for repairing any dents etc ) and the material is different from other available manufacturer.

I have no idea how much this statement is true, but as we all know any new car can be repaired in local garage after some time say 1-2years at the min. because initially owners prefer dealers and only when these new cars start visiting the local garage they gain expertise and paint/parts etc command demand in local market and are easily available. This is purely my opinion as per my interaction with some local reputed garage, and I may be wrong.

Hi All,
I was driving my Red Polo 1.6 with "Got BHP" and "LTD" on the tailgate, on Monday to get its 1st service done (15000 KMs). On my way near the Topsia - Park Circus Connector crossing (Kolkata) I got tail ended (NO DAMAGES OR INJURIES ) by a fellow BHPian in a white i20.
We stopped and had a quick chat but I forgot to ask for his TBHP handle.
The incident happened as follows -
He was driving slower than me on the right lane when I overtook him from left and changed into the right lane (properly siganalled lane change though). There he saw the stickers and started tail gating me. He probably also started a dialogue with his fellow passengers about TBHP pointing to my stickers. At that point his focus was more on my back side (read - tail gate with TBHP stickers) and less on the traffic signal ahead.
I crossed the signal while it was turning Amber from Green while he being on a mission of following the 1.6 missed the signal by a fraction of a second. But at that point we both were in a position to comfortably cross the junction. Unfortunately the bikers on the opposite side eagerly waiting for a right turn creeped in front of me and I had to suddenly stop midway through the junction to avoid a collision with one of the most daring bikers. My fellow BHPian follower could not stop on time and hit me from the back. It was a minor impact and no damages reported on any of the cars or passengers.

This should be a lession to all of us - "Whatever happens never tailgate without keeping safe distance".

Meanwhile I got the first service done with a cost of around Rs 10500. This includes Engine Oil change (Rs 4500 worth of oil), Oil Filter + Filter Gasket replacement, AC Pollen Filter replacement, Air Filter Replacement, Wheel Balancing, Wheel Alignment (alignment was done free) and Service Labour cost of around Rs 1500. I will post a more detailed breakup of cost and work done sometime later once I get some time.

Polo is most prone to be hit on the rear bumper, for one reason or the other. I have been hit thrice. But fortunately, only minor damages and all of them have been confined to the bumper.

IMHO it is because of the braking ability. Bumper quality is superb!

Hi all,
This week I got my Polo 1.6 serviced - 15,000 KM / 1st Service. Here is a full report of the service experience.

With the ODO at 14,958 I decided to go in for the 1st service on Monday. Called up the workshop and they agreed to take it in at 11:30 pm and said that if there is nothing major to be done they can deliver the car by the evening same day.
I prepared a list of issues that I wanted them to take a look at. The list included the following items -
1) Front LHS power window noise while rolling down
2) Noise from the steering wheel on rotation - leather against plastic friction like noise
3) RHS ORVM rattle
4) All doors noisy on bad roads (we have plenty here in Kolkata)
5) Increased NVL from Engine compartment
6) Hand brake not gripping well
7) Light vibration in steering wheel felt at idling
8) Dash board vibration noise at sudden acceleration
9) Reduced FE and acceleration

I reached the workshop at 12:00 noon (delayed due to the little incident I reported a few posts back) and was greeted with a glass of water and a cup of tea. The service advisor immediately started noting down my "Demanded Repairs" and went out with me and another technician (who will finally do the fixes) for a trial run to understand the problems. The trial run done they took about 15 more minutes to create the job card and took the car into the workshop. After a quick round of inspection by the technician they came back saying that it would take longer and they would not be able to finish everything before the next day. The estimate given was around Rs 10,000.

I wanted to stay back and monitor the progress but the BOSS called up and wanted me back in office. And so I came back.

Later in the afternoon they called up to inform that the RHS ORVM has 2 broken clips inside (had a minor impact with a bikewalla some time back) and the cover and clips need replacement. It would cost around Rs 1000 to replace and repaint it and would take 2 days as the paintshop was overloaded with repairs. But since there was no functional deficiency with the current ORVM I decieded not to do it now.

Next day around lunch I receive a call from them stating that the car would be ready by 5:00 pm. I reached there by 4:30 and the car was done already. They took me out for a test drive to ensure everything has been done properly. I was satisfied except for the steering noise on rotation - though muted, it still was there. They said they have noted it down and send a query to VW (they send something called "DIS" to VQ for all such issues which they cannot fix).

The following work was done (with cost on the right) -
From my list above -
1) Front LHS power window noise while rolling down - Fixed under warranty, no charges.
2) Noise from the steering wheel on rotation - leather against plastic friction like noise - Not fully gone. They have send query to VW.
3) RHS ORVM rattle - The cover needed replacement, I decided not to get it done now.
4) All doors noisy on bad roads (we have plenty here in Kolkata) - Fixed under warranty, no charges. I am sure these will crop up again after a few days of driving on the EM Bypass (those from Kolkata will know why)
5) Increased NVL from Engine compartment - much reduced after oil change
6) Hand brake not gripping well - Fixed under warranty, no charges
7) Light vibration in steering wheel felt at idling - much reduced after oil change, but slight vibration is still there.
8) Dash board vibration noise at sudden acceleration - was being caused by my perfume bottle... stupid me.
9) Reduced FE and acceleration - Acceleration has improved. Need to check FE.
As part of standard 15,000 service they did the following -
1) Campaign Job 57D7 - Software update, could not say for what
2) Campaign Job 97T9 - Software update, could not say for what
3) Campaign Job 97U2 - Software update, could not say for what
4) Dust and Pollen filter (A/C) replacement - Rs 667.24
5) Oil Filter Replacement - Rs 416.24
6) Fuel Filter Replacement - Rs 413.05
7) Air Filter Replacement - Rs 714.90
8) Drain Plug Replacement - Rs 50.52
9) Gasket Replacement (Possibly filter gasket) - Rs 97.75
10) Coolant (topped up and the bottle given for future topups) - Rs 486.48
11) Windshield Washer Fluid (topped up and btoole given for future use) - Rs 196.42
12) Wheel Balancing Weights - Rs 720.10
13) Engine Oil (4 liters used + 1 liter sealed bottle given for 250 ml top up after a week) - Rs 4850.03
Labour charge - Rs 1559.66.
Total bill - Rs 10,172

Post service the car is running much smoother as expected. The FE shown on the MID has improved - it showed 15.5 kmpl yesterday evening without A/C in highway like condition. Need at least a weeks time to actually measure and provide a final figure. The few minor issues like the steering noise and ORVM noise I can live with.
Overall though I was not overjoyed by the service provided, my experience was satisfactory (Except the expenses ).

Nice thread and a fantastic overview and covering a brilliant ownership experience of the 1.6. I have followed the 1.6 very closely since its launch and have decided to buy one in the august time frame (Hoping to make a booking in the next few weeks). As i currently drive a swift (petrol vxi) and i know that you made a similar upgrade the one that i am hoping for, I had a few questions. My apologies if you have addressed them in parts before and i would deeply appreciate it your inputs.

1. On the edge performance. I have done over 82k in my swift i have been pleased with the 'kick' that I get when i 'take off' from a signal. 8/10 times if i'm in the first on the redlights i tend to redline the car in the first two gears and then slow down (its bloody addictive). How does the polo 1.6 react? I know its mighty powerful, and on papers it is brilliant. But could you elaborate on the 'feel' of acceleration?
Every time i'm cruising on the highway, I love to drop down a couple of gears and punch it (for overtakes, or just for kicks). How does the polo react.
Basically - Swift is all together a different car at 4,500+ rpm. How does the polo react when you push / strain the engine. Can it get addictive (i'm hoping the answer is yes).

2. On the edge handling - Swift loves em bends and there has not been a single time that it has not 'pasted' that smile on my face with its brilliant handling. Again on paper Polo is superior, could you elaborate how the polo 'makes you feel' when you take those corners?

These two questions can be answered on a test drive, unfortunately Polo 1.6 is not available on a test drive.

All i want to know about the Polo 1.6 is the way this car makes you feel.

1) Polo probably does not give you the instant kick of swift, but no swift has been able to beat me in the traffic gp. Polo has a strong 3rd gear and reaches 100 kmph faster. The acceleration is smooth but fast. The polo engine does not like to be rev'ed like the swift. Moreover the F.E. drops considerably if you try to push her. Last weekend I on my polo was on a trip with a friend on his swift (1.3) on a decent but narrow highway. When he was driving in front, I had no problems in keeping up, but when I was in front our gap increased and he falling back frequently.
2) Handling is definitely superb. With the lower profile tyres and stiff suspension, it practically has very little body roll. But the steering is a bit light than you expect reducing the feel. Swift had more roll and was less confidence inspiring in the corners.

You can TD the 1.2 highline to get the feel of handling. But you would need the 1.6 to get a feel of its performance.
