Re: My Turbocharged Maruti 800 MPFi

@gaurav_chopra04 - Nice to see that there are others like me who love the humble M800.
It is quite surprising when you find that the 3cyl F5B/F6B that came turbocharged in the ALTO RS works had a factory red line (rev) at 8500 RPM. Though F8B is a far cry from that, it still does share some DNA with its siblings (F5B/F6B) !!!!!!!!!!!

Pardon my ignorance, but you mean to say F5B/F6B were turbocharged at the factory for the Alto RS? Which country were they sold? and 8.5 k rpm from a 3 pot TC'd mill is damn impressive.

Re: My Turbocharged Maruti 800 MPFi

@dhanushs - I dont know what countries sold them. But, it was available in Japan. They had both 3 cyl sohc and dohc setup. DOHC head look like the swift GTi head with 1cyl chopped off. Pls have a look at the pics (F6A/F6B) attached. Looks like the red line is 9.5K !!!!!!!!

I wish we in India had something like this. Wouldnt mind buying it even if they launched this model now ...... a nimble, fun, quick and maybe also a bit frugal city car !!!!!!!

Then this will knock you out.. the Alto Works were also 4 wheel drive

They were mostly for the JDM (Japan) market but some were imported (grey) by individual buyers to Australia and some other countries. Have read about the same long time ago in foreign forums when i was searching for more info about these babies. I had an 800 at that time so was interested in this.

Re: My Turbocharged Maruti 800 MPFi

@shankar - Yes, they did have 4WD in some of those cars. I came across some article - a guy in australia had completely modified a car with new/strengthened drive train including gearbox, new forged internals, turbo upgrade and all the works to get this dinky car to put out around 200 -250 hp.

I wonder what it would feel like in a car so light with so much of power and 4WD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This being the car which put India on wheels, it will be great to have a limited edition on its 30th aniversary .

I guess if some one can procure the GB and other running gear i guess its possible to convert our 800 to AWD. The transmission tunnel is already there, the 4WD 800's tunnel didn't look any different/bigger than what we have here.
What say swiftboost? Would make your already awesome TCIC800 the best in this country, TCIC AWD

Re: My Turbocharged Maruti 800 MPFi

@sankar - I did think about it sometime back. Sourcing AWD parts (Japan/AUS) may not be easy, being uncommon & quite old. Besides, AWD install might be quite difficult ... Im guessing.

I think Im happy with this simple and low budget build. Run out of money already !!!!!!!!

Re: My Turbocharged Maruti 800 MPFi

@gaurav_chopra04 & dhanushs - sharing a pic of a suzuki carb turbo setup. The dump pipe is aftermarket though.

Many enthusiasts in Australia have/had them. One of the other platforms this engine (NA) came in was the "mightyboy" - a compact-ute.

Re: My Turbocharged Maruti 800 MPFi

@swiftboost

You are the man...what Whp is the car putting out in it's current form ? I just reckon if it is close to a 100, it must be a task to tame her

Cheers

Re: My Turbocharged Maruti 800 MPFi

@Ricky_63 - Im yet to take care of the fueling and ignition tweaks. Need to get myself an aftermarket ECU and maybe tune it with slightly larger Baleno injectors.

And maybe dyno it later. But, I dont think it will be anywhere close to 100 since I dont plan to push it beyond 10-12 psi.

I know for sure as i bought the 4 speed mpfi M800 in 2003 for city runs.
Maruti 800 5 speed had the same 16 valve engine as the Alto, 4 speed 800 have the 8 valve lower output engine.

Oops that was a typo, the engine was 4 valves X 3 cylinders = 12valves. Thanks for correcting
