Suggestions to all of you with automatic cars.

I got parking sensors installed. It was a six sensor model. 4 for rear and 2 for front. As all of us know that rear sensor get activated when we put our cars in reverse gear and front ones are activated with brake lights. But being in an AT, front ones are active most of the time on red-light and low traffic conditions.

I got so irritated with the sound and glowing rear view mirror within 3-4 days of its installation that I got the front to sensors deactivated permanently

So, friends with Automatics should not opt for front sensors.

These are ultrasonic sensors. I'm guessing the paint does little or nothing at all to their effectiveness - they work pretty well. I pretty much ignore the thing though.

No one should opt for front sensors. It would take you a week or two get a mental map of the extremes of your car, the front especially. Why would one require frontal sensors? The Honda people told me that everyone who has ever gotten front sensors done have deactivated them within a week or two after purchase. Besides, these things have a tendency to die a quick death with all the dust and water getting thrown at them since they face the storm at the front.

Can't say anything about camera but one or two sensors do a little bit of malfunction in very cold mornings (just 10-15 days of Dec/Jan in Delhi) and during rains, but once rain is over, they work normally.

I have been using them for almost an year now

Dunno about sensors but my rear view camera has held up pretty well so far.

Ditto for me too! They only problem ive faced in a cam is when driving on wet dirty roads, the lense of them cam gets dirty and has to be wiped clean. But hey so goes for the rear glass.

So i am for the cam any day. A great equipment and a must have. Works great at nights too.

Just for information.
I am sure most of you know that CCD cameras are better than CMOS cameras. If you are looking to fit a good reverse camera, make sure you fit a CCD camera. Even in this, you should try and buy a 1/3" sensor CCD camera and avoid the 1/4" sensor. CCD cameras with inbuilt infrared sensors would make night vision a whole lot better.
CMOS cameras are available for about 1 - 1.5K while CCD cameras are 4 - 12k.
Make sure your camera has atleast 420 tv lines with atleast 120 degree visibility.

One more reason to not to go for front sensor is that there are Airbag sensors in front which are placed very strategically and have a particular sensitivity. Therefore I was advised by Toyota manager to not fit anything or do any modification in front of cars. That may affect functionality of airbags.

Never heard that one before ! I don't think the airbag sensors would be in the front bumper as that is prone to dents and hits. That way your airbags will pop out every now and then.

Front sensors are very useful in traffic but can get annoying with the beeps. Just a distance display is best.

I don't see why parking sensors should affect air-bags, tend to agree with Sahil. Can you please explain why?

Many people are concerned about annoyance created by unwanted beeps due to front sensors. I guess rather than wiring it with brake light, we can have a manual switch instead. Activate it only when needed. Having volume or muting option would also be great.
