Re: Your favourite number-plate font

Voted for Speedex font 1. Looks simple and elegant to me.
None of my current vehicles has this font, but planning to change all of them to speedex font 1 in near future.

GTO and me are probably the biggest fans of DC font here. However, I am a loyalist and have DC font on all my cars unlike GTO who feels the DC font doesn't look grown up enough for luxury sedans

The first mandatory "accessory" that goes on any car of mine the day is a neat DC font plate. I think much like everyone else who is a fan of this font, my love for it began as I aspired to own DC modded cars as a kid and while that didn't happen atleast I got something "DC" like. Now that I think back, what on earth was I thinking wanting a DC modded car

However, the DC font has evolved a bit and is a mix between Frankmehta's font and GTO's DC jeep plate. It's gotten a bit fatter and a shorter.

The Arial font is also becoming popular these days, mostly seen them on high end cars. Another new trend that you see on luxury car and sports cars is a small plate/sticker on the front bumper. I took have adapted to this on the S,CLA and RS5. It noticeable improves the front end looks of the car as the bumper curves are not blocked/hidden by a chunky number plate frame.

Re: Your favourite number-plate font

I currently use the IND plates without the IND logo or the hologram (I prefer it that way). Lucky for me, the previous owner didn't try anything funky. I don't think my OCD would have allowed me to keep it if he did . Its definitely understated and looked elegant when they initially caught on and even now. Very legible as well

We switched to steel ever since my dad misjudged the length of the bonnet in the parking lot (He had just gotten himself a new Endeavour) and broke the stock plastic plate it came with haha

GTO, about the Audis, are you talking about the grey plates? Those ones look sweet though I'm not sure about the visibility from certain angles. I think even the BMWs in Bombay have a nice and clean font, but maybe a little too plain for some.

Opinion changed quickly enough. I ditched the IND plate on my 530d for the DC. The lure was too strong:

You can see a li'l of it in this picture. The one Audi uses is like a slimmed down version of the IND font. Very classy...we should find out who their number-plate guy is:

Its the IND font for me, with the blue colored side strip. All my personal and official cars have the same font.

Re: Your favourite number-plate font

I really like the cleaner fonts which are easy to read. For me, it's more about the embossed letters on a metal plate with black border and rounded corners. So, I like the IND, German and speedex font 1 images from the above. I don't like the flush plates (especially those fiberglass ones) even though my current car has them. They are ugly and reflect too much light at certain angles.

Re: Your favourite number-plate font

I voted for the German Font. There is something about the '0' which makes me like it so much. I first spotted it on a Safari last year and have always wanted to know what it was called.
Thanks to this thread today, I got to know.
German Font it is

So here is my VW Jetta with the German font. Always found the plates looking better with the frame.

Re: Your favourite number-plate font

Here in Assam, the Transport Department has made what it calls 'High Security Number Plates' with the IND style mandatory for all new vehicles. It is now urging non IND plated vehicles to switch very soon, believe they have time period set under which all existing non IND plates would have to be changed. Despite it being too common, if the numbers are chosen wisely(subjective), the plate looks classy.

Can we ask the overworked people at the DTO to do the German font on the IND plates? I would love it although I have a feeling they wouldn't be terribly happy about such a request if it's doable.

Celerio's plate- that is Maruti's dealer plate

Your favourite number-plate font-a4.jpg

Safari's simple plate

Your favourite number-plate font-a5.jpg

Your favourite number-plate font-a33.jpg

CBR 250R's "in your face" plate

Your favourite number-plate font-a7.jpg

which I changed to

Out of all these, I like Kwid's German plate the most, followed by IND plates and then Maruti's dealer plates.

Re: Your favourite number-plate font

I am a fan of the simple IND design, but now am smitten by the DC font after seeing some of the pics in this thread. I have rarely seen this font in KL or TN though. Is there any shop in Mumbai who would ship one out to Chennai?

I hope my S plates with DC font changed your mind. You had IND plates on your C220 too.

Here is the pic of my CLA plates. The DC font on your jeep plates look thinner and taller compared.

Is the DC font available to download online ? I tried looking it up but couldn't find any proper font that matched it.
