Dont bother too much with numbers and all Naren... just enjoy the car for the sheer pleasure of driving it. It doesnt matter if your car can be 0.5 seconds faster or someone else's is 0.4 seconds faster.... As long as you enjoy your car, that's all that matters.
Thanks Nikhil

Yes, you are right. The numbers doesn't matter and the performance I am more than happy . But I am very interested to know how much improvement it has done. Timings are kinda important to me as I am planning to participate in under 1600 CC diesel category drag events after doing some more mods and stage 1 plus remap.

re: S-Cross 1.6L: Custom Decat SS Downpipe by Blackworks

Acid test for 1.6 S-Cross!!

The turbo lag of 1.6 S-Cross has been discussed a lot and criticised. I personally did not find the turbo lag as a major problem even in stock map. But yes, 1.6 has a bigger turbo and there is lag ( more than 1.3 and much more than 1.5 Ford / Honda)

Post Downpipe mod, we wanted to make sure there is no loss at low end and also check the turbo lag. We decided to climb one steep incline on 2 nd gear with 3 people and AC on.

It was around 200M stretch. Car was climbing on its own without pressing the throttle. RPM was around 900. I smashed the throttle and there was no response. It picked up very slowly and reached around 1200 RPM. This is normal and you are not supposed to be in such low revv band. It was done only for testing. NOW THE GAME STARTS, Car started picking up speeds much faster, turbo started spooling pretty quick. After 1800 RPM, the pull was very very strong and for a second lost traction. I can say that the car passed "Acid Test" with distinction .

Now I am planning to do some intake mods and also put a Borla muffler. I contacted Race sound India ( official importer of Borla exhausts) and was suggested to go for Borla Pro XS. I am not a huge fun of sound. But Octavia 2.0 TDI with Borla sounded sweet

Wow. I really like the workmanship on the pipe.
And, is it clearing emissions? I remember that even with full FFE, my santro used to clear emissions by wide margins. If it is, then end of discussions, I suppose. The rest can drive electric which pollute elsewhere.

Workmanship is top notch. Venkat has made everything bolt on fit. No stock pipe bends /flanges were used ( Many do this for cost cutting / ease of work). Attention to detail was very much and even the stock heat shield is made to fit in properly with the new downpipe . Nobody could say that the car is running with a decat downpipe unless they open the heat sheild and physically look into it

Stock heat shield retained on new downpipe

And ya, the expensive cat is resting here for now ( 80,000 Rs)

Mod Note: Thread has been cleaned up and all off-topic posts have been moved to the other thread. Please discuss the environmental implications on that thread only.

This thread should focus only on the modification done to Naren's car.

Great to watch your mods.
some day, your costs on modifications will definitely cross the price of possessing your 1.6
worth spending on 1.6 to converts it as a fighter JET.

Haha, not possible. Your post did make me think what would I mod for 15 lakhs

Planned mods / upgrades in future :

1. Better rubber ( Michelin / Continental)
2. Intake mod ( BMC DIA)
3. Borla / Magnaflow muffler
4. EBC Brake pads
5. Stage 1 Plus remap

All these mods would be within 1 lakh rupees and I am done hopefully

Nice V band flange!! I am going V band on my next exhaust upgrade. It saves lot of time in making and matching the flanges and bolts there in. That pipe is not going to melt anytime soon.

PerfExpert APP Dyno :

Expected figures post remap : 145-150 HP / 380-390 NM
PerfExpert Dyno : 164 HP / 360 NM

I think the downpipe has made good difference and also torque figures might be lower as I had done the run in 2 nd gear

Re: S-Cross 1.6L: Custom Decat SS Downpipe by Blackworks

I drove around 200 KM today with my OBD reader plugged in. I have driven more than 500 KM post downpipe mod and I have observed few changes. The aggressiveness of the car has reduced and the power delivery is linear now, but it's still strong.

I had logged boost at different RPM and here are the observations.

Max boost : 23.6 PSI

Turbo starts spooling from 1300 RPM itself and at 1700 RPM, it's making pretty good boost. Peak boost is achieved at 2500 RPM and it's being held till 4000 RPM. Car feels so easy to drive inside city and its a beast on highways.

More than 10 psi boost at around 1700 RPM

Guys, What would your recommendation be for me? I'd like to do remap, intake and exhausts with cat delete. Whats the best combination now that there is a lot of experience in the group.

BTW, the intercooler hose sprung a leak on the highway 2 days ago. the car has done 17K as of now and medal to metal several times. Is this common? Its all stock as of now.

Remap + Decat Downpipe has totally transformed my car. It's a different animal now. Also I have done minor mods to the intake to suck in cooler air.

It's time to up the performance of your StealthCross

Re: S-Cross 1.6L: Custom Decat SS Downpipe by Blackworks

S-Cross 1.6 is one of the best offering from Maruti stable. The car uses a bigger turbo and there is lag. But I had not found the lag very irritating even in stock map. But post downpipe mod, I have no words to describe the transformation. I have tried to show it in a video. Stock 1.6 S-Cross would take some time to respond if you pedal to metal below 1000 RPM. But, see what my remapped 1.6 with Blackworks Downpipe does : BlackMagic

Exhaust note : It actually sounds better in real

Re: S-Cross 1.6L: Custom Decat SS Downpipe by Blackworks

I have driven more than 2000 KM post downpipe mod. Performance is just brilliant with little louder turbo sound . No issues faced till date!!

I have driven couple of times on Mysore to Mangalore stretch. Its effortless on Coorg ghats.

Some interesting observations :

At sea level :

Turbo boost : 22.5
MAF : 114

At Coorg :

Turbo boost : 23.6
MAF : 104

I think at higher altitude turbo needs to work harder and more peak boost values. MAF values are slightly lower due to decreased air density at high altitude.

Re: S-Cross 1.6L: Custom Decat SS Downpipe by Blackworks

As suggested by many guys on this thread, I have got a fresh remap to exploit the downpipe mod from Rajiv, Wolf Moto. The previous tuner, Tune O Tronics were not not responding and they did not have full support for my car.

Few cars lose low end torque post downpipe mod, but it was opposite in my S-Cross. Rajiv just made it perfect by tailoring a good map. The low end has very good improvement now. Car is more free revving too

Details about Wolf Remap :
