No issues with customs. I think 4 - 5 members on this forum have got it without any issues.

My experience is in this post : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/gadget...ml#post1425549

Did not test Music at all. Tried running music + maps and it starts freezing.

This is a cheap chinese unit and expect similar quality.

Works excellent for GPS and thats about it.

GPS muunting

The suction cup leaves tell tale marks on car surfaces, and is a dead giveaway for breaking and entering crooks who know you won't carry your GPS unit with you when you leave the car...

Good mounting for GPS, called Gorilllapod GoGo, and I use it for my phone, GPS and SD Camcorder. Can be attached to ashtray OR centre RVMirror. Priced at 57SD at Changi Airport, electronics store (Not camera store, where Gorillapod SLR is stocked):

There is a friction pad which Garmin sells. I think that may help.

Amazon.com: Garmin Portable Friction Mount: Electronics

I mainly want to track the traffic and find alternate routes? Does any of these systems has traffic detection for Indian roads?

Thanks,

No, traffic guidance does not work as of now. It requires infrastructure for detecting slow moving traffic and broadcasting it over FM in digital format.

Got it, I hope someone must be working on it, and we will get it at least in one or two years. Its very much needed here.

Yes it would be helpful.

In Bombay, police now has central monitoring for traffic across city (through CCTV). If financed, it can be used to capture details on slow moving traffic.

I think as market for GPS Navigation matures in India, companies will start looking at it as an opportunity.

  1. Are these (MAPMYINDIA Maps) compatiable with all Garmin devices?
  2. What about those who have have a Garmin device loaded with the Garmin India Maps. Is is possible to simply take out the SD card with the Garmin India maps and put in the SD card with MapmyIndia maps. Wont that work??

MapMyIndia have a list of compatible devices on their site.

If people have made the MMI maps work with other models, not on that list, it would be useful if the posted here!

MMI would not work on this device (because of size of maps).

Storage is limited to 128 MB, so options are Garmin or Satguide.

Garmin maps are listed in compatibility list for this device:

City Navigator® India NT
Part Number: 010-D0625-00
Suggested Retail Price: $ 99.99 USD

Since this device does not accept SD card, it would not be possible. For maps that are sold on Micro SD Card, just plug the card and maps would work.

Either you have to buy maps on MicroSD card or crack them to work with MicroSD card.

Maps include "serial number" that is tied to "card id" so if you buy maps on SD card and copy them over to another card it would not work without hacking.
You need to buy "MicroSD" version.

Hey guys
Further to my query above I spoke to a Garmin dealer today and asked them iif I buy the Garmin 76CSX what map options do I have. The dealer said that I can use Satguide maps which come for 628 cities and 20lac POI's. These maps are available for 2200 approx though the dealer was asking 2500 for that.
Not taking his word for it I got in touch with the Satguide helpline (I think in Hyderabad) and the executive dint confirm anything at first but took note of my query and my phone number. She got back to me in 20 mins and confirmed that SatGuide maps work with Garmin devices and specifically I asked about GARMIN GPSMAP 76CSX and its there on their list of compatible devices. Further she said as the 76CSX accepts only micro sd cards, if we give a special request they will send the 1GB card in misroSd format.

So now I have to decide between Garmin 76CSX or 60CSX!!! Please help me out.
Going prices on Amazon is
US $290 for the 76CSX
US $298 for the 60CSX

Pl advise guys
Cheers
