The Ractive is super super flow.It doesnt filter say the 50 microns like the K&N.You can see the difference when you look through both the filters when huld in light. The K&N will be translucent whereas the R-Active wil be semi transparent.I mean,..you can literally watch telivision through the Ractive, but you will only see light come through the K&N.

Ive worked around this though..just apply the K&n filter oil on the Ractive

Well, someone told me that the difference in performance is highly negligible with a replacement / conical. now that might mean that the performance boost would be about 1-2 bhp, borderline indifferent, but what one really needs to see is how might the engine get affected with less pure air.

if ractive cant filter air as much as k&n does...its not good for the engine right?

the problem is that is ractive effective for a long time use when compared to k&n...ractive is not at all popular...is it because its having some problems during the long run...Filters are basically for filtering the air the engine sucks..and if not proper filtering given ,the life time of the engine reduces..i have fitted k&n in my zen...the performance upgrade is awesome...

iam in a big dilemma guys on what to choose for my palio...k&n or ractive...i am happy with k&n..But ractive becoming so cost effective(lesser thean half the price of k&n) makes me think once again on which one to choose..

Honestly, i've been using the Ractive for one and a half year now in my ikon.
Infact, i didnt clean it for 30000 kms and got it done sometime back.
I've used it in extremely dusty conditions. It even got submerged in shallow water during the monsoon chennai-tbhp meet.Still,it always worked in full efficiency. When i removed the filter for cleaning, i checked for dust on the walls of the intake pipe and did not find any.

HAFI, if u have the slightest of hesitations about a brand, then just get urself the overpriced K&N.
I've already posted why there are price differences between Ractive and K&N.Methods Automotive dictate the price for the K&N in India.

Our member SAP bought a replacement filter for his Corsa from the US for 37 USD(Around Rs.1700).The price of the same filter in India is around Rs.4400(~ $100).Of course, there is shipping, duty, local taxes, distributor margin, dealer margin involved for both the brands.K&N and Ractive are both manufactured in the USA.

If you guys want my honest opinion. Air Filters don't help much performance wise, both will do the job. Ractive doesn't make direct replacement filters like K&N. You can probably buy a Stainless Steel Filter like I did and All you have to do is clean it with Soap and Water and let it dry and pop them back on.

I was talking about difeerences of maybe 25microns(dia of human hair-5 microns.Using 1 tank of bad fuel will have worse effects than using a ractive for say 1year.Plus the filteration prob was solved by using the K&N oil on my ractive.

Stainless Steel filter? What's that, & where does one get it.

Links to images, sites, etc. would be nice.

I'm guessing instead of cloth filters those are steel wire mesh filters. I guess performance will be better but in places like india where dust will be a problem a strict no no.

Question stock airbox access air through apron of fendor, however, do you get sand and dirt on the inside of your engine bay? Is it significant? You can live with a bit of dust. As long as the car is not used offroad, it should be fine. I hear a lot about how India now has lots of roads like North America from family, in my mind Tarmac is a norm now.

North india will get more dust into your filter than you will get driving in arizona desert.
This of dust storm so dense that you can barely see beyond 10 meters.
Many times visibility is just 400-600 meters due to dust, and it stays like this for days till there is a local thunderstorm, or the monsoons start.

eek, that's a scary depiction of a sandstorm. kindof similar to Snowstorms we have here, except the snow melts away while the sand scratches expensive paintjobs. I would leave my car at home for the stormy days.
