I am having a tough time trying to procure parts for my Palio 1.2 in Pune. Need a new set of tail lamps, bonnet etc.
Anyone know where I could get these in Pune?

Didnt know Palio parts are difficult to source in cities. There are some mechanical parts which has waiting period though.

Dont you have any TATA motors who can source the parts for you.

It's pratically easier in Bangalore. Getting spares for a Palio in Pune is a pain in the neck, specially sub parts. e.g. the rear tail lamp cluster that holds the bulbs shorted, & my mechanic advised me to try & procure the holder rather than the entire TL unit itself. Been a year & no luck yet. I might as well get a new unit.

Tried searching the forum, couldn't find it. Hence posting here.

What is the best synthetic engine oil easily available for Palio 1.6?

Does Shell Helix Ultra suit the engine well?

Another big problem in my car is the city mileage of 6.5 kmpl. The same car on highways gives 13 to 14 kmpl which is standard on any 1.6L engine. The A S S have failed to rectify this problem, they insist the car runs fine. Please give me pointers to rectify this and also the most reliable service center. I have tried Concorde Motors, Fast cars and Sundaram Motors in the past, found Sundaram to be most efficient for Palio but they don't do it anymore. Fast Cars is good for Marutis but somehow not happy about Palio.

Mobil 1 seems to be popular among 1.6 owners and most buy it from a dealer just off JC road.

I tried Mobil 1 for some time. To be honest, did not find any noticable difference vis-a-vis mineral oil. There's a big thread running on synthetic v/s mineral oil, and you can have a look at that to make an informed decision. As for availability, its not hard to find any synthetic oil. Most are available in pump outlets and JC road as well.

Mileage, to an extent depends on one's driving style and some mechs tell me to an extent on the timing set up. I have never got above 9 kmpl and my average is around 8 I guess in the city.

Do make an assessment with Venkatesh of Gowri Automobiles, V.V Puram. Many of us have been visiting him and are satisfied with his services. His details are available in the Bangalore directory thread.

Thanks a lot @JVH for the pointers.

Totally agree that mileage depends on the way it is driven, must admit I generally drive 1.6 the way it should be.

However, 6.5 is the efficiency when babied around and driven absolutely perfectly with no lugging or over revving. I have done the same in my friend's Baleno and it returned 11 in the city.

I would be happy with 8.5 to 9 in a Palio though which is very reasonable for a more sporty standard state of tune and heavy weight when compared to Baleno. The city and highway difference is unusually huge, which is my concern. Will try Mr. Venkatesh of Gowri Automobiles, thanks for the info.

anand, 6.5 is too low! i get easy 9-10 with the regular drive, with the mix of traffic, high speed etc..

Anand,
I have been using the selenia (fiat specified) synthetic oil that is available with most Tata-Fiat workshops for my 1.6 as the Linea has the same engine oil grade.
After first use, the engine was perceptibly smoother and running a wee bit quite too. And it's cheaper than Mobil and Helix

6.5 seems very less! I regularly get between 9 and 10 in BLR.
Since your highway mileage is as per expectations, I suggest you have the fuel pump and injectors checked.
