Swift ORVM Cowl

Hello there,
I lost my right ORVM cowl yesterday in a dash against tempo coming in opposite side. Just the plastic part covering the mirror from back side is lost. Rest of the assembly as well as the mirror is intact and working.
Now the dealers (2 of them here) say that the cowl is not available separately and I'll have to buy the full mirror costing Rs 1450/-. I just want to check out if this is true.
Has anyone here been able to buy just the orvm cowl separately? If yes, from where? OEM or otherwise? Cost ... ?

Thanks in advance

I too had replaced the entire assembly @Rs.1400/-. But that was before 1.5 yrs.

Iam sure you can get it in some shops where they deal with accident parts.

try car accessory shop!

If you sure bout its "working" status, try getting the fancy-chrome finish ORVM cover in accessory shops and try covering the broken area with it. Guess it will turn cheaper and classy too!!
Dulicate ones are yet to hit the markets I guess!

Nope, you dont get the cowl alone. Atleast not in MASS shops. Been through that.
To its credit, the cowl takes a real battering to snap.

Unfortunately true. Even if you did get the cover only, you will find that the internal design has changed. In my case, the mirror broke but cover survived but alas, it did not fit the new mirror.

I just survived spending this amount for the replacement. A drunkard barged into my left A pillar while i was driving at about 60 kmph. He hit the left ORVM bang and was knocked off. After ensuring he was back to his senses in the hospital with minor injuries, when I returned i observed the ORVM naked without cowling. As luck would have it, the cowling was lying in the dust where hundreds of pedestrians moving around it. I could fit it back without much problem except for a bent inner clip.
I am not sure whether the design of the ORVM is really strong, bec. the cowling is its weak point and complete replacement is so costly.

Swift - ORVM Shroud broken

Hi all. . . this is my first posting in Team-BHP. I have a Swift vdi which my wife uses and is the apple of her eye. She was driving home from work yesterday braving the monsoon in the crawling trafic of when the left ORVM was scraped on by a MTC bus. She reached home and then to her horror found the shroud alone missing! The car is sunset copper in colour and so are the shrouds. SHe wants the shroud to be replaced. Is the shroud alone available or do I have to change the entire ORVM? Please advise.....

Bad news is you most probably need to change entire OVRM - Rs 1600. Add to the fact that the design changed internally, so the replacement shroud may not fit!

It happened to me

Yeah - you'll need to replace the entire RVM unit - its an integrated piece. I learnt this last week when a charming 3 wheeler goods-carrier swerved into my path to avoid a pothole on his side of the road, swiped my right ORVM and shattered the mirror while the casing remained intact.

My subsequent descent towards the poverty line : Rs 1400.
Details: New MGA right OVRM at Mandovi Service Station, Bannerghatta Road.

Now that finally explains why there are so many Swifts going around with missing mirror shrouds.

You might be able to get an aftermarket shroud from an accessory store. I've seen a lot of Swifts with shiny chrome-type mirror shrouds. These should be cheaper than the whole mirror assembly. You could also get one of those aftermarket shrouds with built-in turn-indicator lights (although wiring would be a hassle).

For Swift, its around 1500/-, though not sure of SX4. Can it be so high as 7000/-?

The cheap after market things are just shroud covers. They are just covers which are stuck onto the shroud with double sided tape. They cannot be replace the shroud itself.
