Where do you procure such goodies? Is there a dedicated aftermarket performance kit manufacturer for Hyundai?

A VERY TINY market. One has to search & search & search.....& even then it is trial & error. But get it right & you have an urban weapon in your hands!

Re: A Hyundai Sonata V6 Story - From Barge To Bullet!

Nice thread, car looking great. Did you incorporate any of the recommended changes i.e. Wheels and grill? I see its been a year almost since last few mentions of mods, anything new going on??

Re: A Hyundai Sonata V6 Story - From Barge To Bullet!

I have bought a Rotrex Supercharger Kit (Universal) for her. I need someone to do it for me. Lots of fabrication involved. Searching for Mr. Right!

Re: A Hyundai Sonata V6 Story - From Barge To Bullet!

Many congratulations on a fabulous modification. The best I have seen so far on Tbhp. The Petrol V6 motor along with the Manual Tranny does make for one interesting ride. A PetrolHead's dream, this thread of yours.

Keep it up...

Vivek, read the thread in one go. Man, what an amazing effort there.
Kudos to you on taking the aches and pains. The end result can be seen.
Thats one mean looking (and sounding) Sonata you've got there.

Like I've told you before too, its so damn easy to spot your car from a mile away!

Hi 1self! I was at Sanjay hyundai to get a door handle Fixed on my i20. After seeing the teambhp sticker on my car the technician there told me your name and he was praising you about the entire turnaround that you have done to the car. Read the whole thread. Thats a lot of hardwork gone into it! Great work dude..!

Re: A Hyundai Sonata V6 Story - From Barge To Bullet!

OK....time for updates!

Fitted a Stage 3 clutch (Kevlar Lining) & lightweight flywheel. This came as a set with the clutch.

Old flywheel weight: 11.4 KG
New flywheel weight: 4.4 KG.

Total Old rotating weight: 17.6 KG. This includes flywheeel + entire clutch assembly.
Total New rotating weight: 8 KG.

The driving difference is like night & day! Traffic crawling takes some getting used to. I dare'nt put it in 1st gear, or the biker in front of me will be on my bonnet! So, some revs (1000 rpm) & 2nd gear it is. She is ULTRA responsive now. From 2000 to 5500 rpm she moves like she is low pressure turbo-charged! (redline is 7200 rpm)

Re: A Hyundai Sonata V6 Story - From Barge To Bullet!

You had to take the engine out for a tranny job?

What brand is the flywheel and clutch? Is the clutch cable or hydraulically actuated?

1self, if someone were to start repeating what you have done for your car, would be able to help with sourcing parts?

Pranav,

Clutch & flywheel brand is 'Clutch Masters', US. Clutch is hydraulic.#

Yes, I have to take the engine out (currently) to do the clutch job. I also had some trouble with the alternator & A/C compressor, so it was best to do it with the engine out.

killjoy,

Except the flywheel & clutch, ALL other parts are available here itself. You can go right to the nearest Hyundai service station & order all parts for this conversion. There is off course quite a bit of CNC machining & fabrication involved....nothing that can't be managed here. The manual gearbox, axels etc can also be procured from the car junkyards. Yoiu will be surprised how good the parts can be!

Re: A Hyundai Sonata V6 Story - From Barge To Bullet!

Arjun, go with the Honda V6 if you need a V6

Vivek, makes sense. I was surprised to see the complete engine out for just a tranny job. That madness is limited to German and American cars, usually.

I like the head on this engine though. Some nice ports and big quench areas.

Thanks 1self. Will email you separtely.

Pranav, the reason I was asking was that I have owned a Sonata V6 since 2004, since it is lying at home....
