I changed the stock 215/55/R18 to 235/50/R18 after driving initial 1000 km. Till now, I have driven 28000 km with the new size. Mine being a diesel, has more torque thus wider footprint has helped.
Hey buddy. I did not go forward with the tyre change. Driving the car with the same company fitted tyres. I had the 'to be worsened' mileage in mind when I took the decision to stick to stock tyres.
Do share a photograph or two of your car with the wider tyres. Thanks

Re: ARTICLE: Choosing The Right Set Of Tyres for your Car

Hi everyone,

I have my dad's 2016 Scorpio S4 temporarily and I noticed that while the tyres still have a few thousand kilometres of life, the rubber is full of micro cracks. They're Apollo Apterra HP 235/65 R17 104H tyres, fitted stock at the time of purchase so they're 8 years old now.
The car has done only 38200 kms. I went to one nearby tyre specialist who deals with Apollo, Bridgestone and Yokohama. He quoted the below prices.

Apollo - Few models ranging from INR 12000 to INR 14850
Bridgestone - INR 14400
Yokohama - INR 14000
I don't remember clearly but one of these was mentioned by the tyre guy as having a 3 year warranty.

I went to a MRF centre after that and checked with them. They had the Wanderer street at INR 11000 with a 5 year warranty.

There is no requirement for off-road or heavy tread tyres and only highway tyres are being looked at.

The price difference between MRF and the rest seems quite big - a difference of 12K approx for four tyres. Please give me some pointers on this.

Thanks!

Re: ARTICLE: Choosing The Right Set Of Tyres for your Car

Dear tire experts, can you please help me understand what the best upgrade is for my XUV700 MX Diesel? Currently it runs on 235/65/R17, stock MRF tires are pretty average at best. I want to solve the challenges below with a new set.
1. Silent tires; current ones are noisy on highways. I do not drive beyond 90–100; I still feel these are noisy.
2. Better grip; the current ones offer average grip compared to my previous car that was running on Yokohama earth one.
3. Better looks.
4. Not very important, but if possible, a set of tires that do not absorb small stones in the threads.
5. Slightly bigger tires, but without compromising on ride quality. In fact, I want tires that offer a cushier ride.

I may not care.
1. Mileage: Currently, the XUV700 offers decent mileage; I'm okay to sacrifice 1-2 kms of mileage.
2. Durability: My running is low, I do not think I can wear out these in the next 5 years. And anyway, we've got to change tires after 5 years, as a good practice.
3. Price: I'm willing to spend above-average price(less than 14k per tire)

Thank you for the guidance!

Re: ARTICLE: Choosing The Right Set Of Tyres for your Car

Does car tyres replacement depend on the tyre condition or the no of kms run or does it have a logic of shelf life also ? I have a 2016 baleno which is now 7.5 years old and has run 47k kms. Does the tyres get hardened over a period of time. In case I need to change it which is the best soft tyre for this car ? This is the first batch of baleno whose suspension was very hard and it was replaced by Maruti when the vehicle had hardly clocked 11000 kms

Please get the tires replaced at the earliest, especially if you frequently drive on highways. A couple of months ago, one of my relatives' cars got totaled due to a tyre failure on the highway, thankfully there was no injuries. That car was on stock tires, around 8.5 years old, and had only traveled 33,000 kms. Please note that tyre compound ages and hardens with time and can fail without any warning.

Re: ARTICLE: Choosing The Right Set Of Tyres for your Car

Dear Experts,

We are currently looking to replace the tyres on my dad's 2018 Honda City.

The car originally came kitted with Bridgestone Ecopia EP150 tyres, and after 62,000 km over a span of 5 years, it has finally reached the end of its life cycle, hence we are exploring options for a good and optimum replacement.

Since the car in question is a VX variant, it has the 185/55 section tyres for R16 alloy wheels.

My dad originally suggested that we go for Michelin, since people swear by its superior rubber compound and other factors. But I've come across complaints saying that it's quite delicate compared to other brands and has a potential risk of getting damaged sooner. Also, their supply issues in India isn't exactly confidence inspiring either.

I also had a look at the products MRF, Apollo, Goodyear, Yokohama and Continental offered but couldn't deduce which ones would be better suited. I also heard about this new tyre brand in India called Vredstein.

The factors of a silent roll, and longevity, along with good air-holding capacity are high up on the list since the car is not driven extensively and stands idle for a good part of the week.

Since the Bridgestones served us well except for the air-holding capacity, would it be advisable to go ahead with Bridgestone again?

I humbly seek your expert insights on this query. Cheers!

I got Michelin Primacy 4 today for my City 2019.
Upgraded to 195/55/R16.

Somehow I was not satisfied with Bridgestone. Probably due to minimal driving during COVID years the tyres didn't get a chance to prove and went dry. Under normal.circumstances I would have extracted another 10k out of these tyres but the way I started having punctures in one tyre after the other I somehow wanted to move away from Bridgestone asap. Sidewall of one of the tyres got burst on the highway a few months back.

So, finally, got these replaced after 36500 km today.

Regarding availability, I was told by the dealer that Michelin has finalized on the plant in India and until it is complete they have got the permission to import tyres. I got Made in Thailand tyres today with Mfg date of 5023 i.e. Mid December.

Regarding silence factor, frankly I didn't notice much of a difference in whatever distance I drove today from tyre shop to home. Once I drive from home to office next week may be I will be able to understand how much difference is there.

For pics you can refer to the thread for Michelin Primacy 4 where I have posted a few.

Re: ARTICLE: Choosing The Right Set Of Tyres for your Car

I have enquired at Local Dealer for the Tyres for Alcazar in size 215/55R18 and was quoted as below-
JK Tyre- 7600/-
Apollo- 9600/-
Goodyear- 13500/-

On asking why the rate of JK is so less, I was told JK is having some scheme going on.

Re: ARTICLE: Choosing The Right Set Of Tyres for your Car

I'm quite satisfied with the Continental tyres, which I have been using in all my cars viz. S-cross, Honda City and now MG Hector. Infact, The S Cross 1.6 was riding on it's second set of Conti's.

The tyres for Hector are due for replacement shortly; The tyre size is 235/50 R18.
I'm contemplating to shift towards Bridgestone Turanza T001 in the same size because of the fact that they are W rated tyres while Continentals are V rated. Appollo Veredestein are also W rated in the same size.

Considering the plush suspension and the shorter side wall in 18" wheels, I think the stiffer side wall of W rated tyres should be good to have.

Any views on Bridgestone Turanazas T001 ? I have earlier used Bridgestone Potenzas earlier in S cross 1.6 which were impressive only for the first 25k, after which they were noisy and hard.

Hello,
Would recommend you to go with Michelin Primacy 4ST, I do have Conti Sportcontact 5 on my octavia & they’re not as silent as Primacy’s . I recently got primacy 4ST for my Audi Q3 in 235/50 R18 & it’s silent & comfortable.

Re: ARTICLE: Choosing The Right Set Of Tyres for your Car

Hello all

I had a tire blowout on Mysore express way last week and providentially I could pull over to the left most lane change the spare and could come home. The car was Innova riding on Michelin 205/65 R15 energy XM 2. The affected tire is not usable and the spare has cracked as well due to prolonged non usage.

Now these tires are not available in the market. The dilemma is the good 3 tires have hardly 12k on them. So question 1. Can I change two tires alone to a different brand - in here either Yoko or Conti of the same rating... 2. between Conti and Yoko which comes closest to Michelin in-terms of road noise and comfort?

Thanks much.

Its almost an year since you changed the tyres to securadrive. What is the feedback so far? Are they noisy? Requesting you to please provide a short review. I am considering the same, currently on Conti.
