re: Long Term Ownership Report – Hero Honda Karizma. EDIT: Sold!

With the stock disc plate deformed badly with concentric circles on it and moreover they were deep that the finger nail gets stuck in it. The surface of the disc plate wasn't smooth and straight either. There was a mild depression so I thought of getting the whole setup changed.

Went to Hero stockist and got the parts, here is the Bill:

Look at the Disc plate:

Giving the brakes time to bed-in well.

Niggling Issues:

1) Gear shifting problem from 'N' to '1st' and '1st' to 'N'.
2) Front fender and Cowl have lost their shine and faded badly.
3) Surface rusting on silencer and swingarm (below battery box).

Driving with those tints was getting difficult so went in for the clear lens.

Had a set of 4 spare LED Indicators that I had bought from AliExpress for using on my Swift ZDi but later found the issue of hyper flashing occurring in my car so had to chuck it since the flasher relay doesn't exist separately but is embedded into the BCM.

Ordered a Solid State flasher relay from Ebay for 140 bucks.

Removed the OEM 2 pin relay and substituted with the new relay and replaced the bulbs. Voila!

re: Long Term Ownership Report – Hero Honda Karizma. EDIT: Sold!

A UPDATE

With 25,000 kms mark hitting on 16.09.2015, today the odometer stands at 25300 kms. A mere 300 kms covered in 86 days. It does say the usage frequency of the bike.

I am pretty sad as the bike just sits idle 6 days a week and on the Sunday's it is driven anywhere between 10-30 kms just to keep it running and irrespective of the usage, I change the engine oil every 6 months.

You guys can think why am I posting this now:

Reason: Have decided to sell the bike off to my colleague who is buying it by the month end.

I gave him the bike for a day to spend with and also gave him all the bills of service etc to check. He was pretty impressed with the bike and decided to get it from me.

Selling price is fixed at ₹40,000.

I was not accepting anything below ₹35,000 anyway. Good that the deal has gone through well.

He is currently palming off his 8 year old Pulsar 150 post which he'll take off my Karizma and hand me the money.

Shall update the thread as thing's go!

If and when I want to drive it in future when I miss it, it is just a call away and will be seeing it everyday in my office parking lot.

UPDATE

It's been 6 years, 7 months, 25 days or 2430 days that I have spent with my black Beauty a.k.a Karizma R.

She has just been handed over to a another automobile loving and caring guy (BHPian interc00led) who would pamper her to the limits. Closed the deal at Rs 37,000.

Lovely ownership experience overall with minor glitches experienced. There was actually no need to sell her but she had to go as it wasn't being used at all. I couldn't let it stand idle to the weather's harsh elements.

Odometer during sale was 25,500 kms.

Here she is:

Sorry for the crappy picture quality.

Hope to get to see it regularly in future and drive it too if permitted by interc00led.

re: Long Term Ownership Report – Hero Honda Karizma. EDIT: Sold!

Congrats to the new owner and Anurag for maintaining it beautifully for such a long time.

I own a 2010 black Karizma R with red alloys. It will turn 6 this June. I have only covered 15,500 kms till date. More than once i thought of selling it and buy a Activa 125/Vespa or a similar two wheeler for my minimal usage. Once i got a buyer who was ready to pay me rs 40,000. I was about to sell him the bike but a couple of days before closing the deal i thought of going for a small 100 kms highway ride. After coming back i changed my mind and decided not to sell her. The guy who wanted to buy it, even told me if i want another 5,000 bucks extra he was ready to pay that too but i politely declined his offer and apologised to him for my indecision.

Now i have decided to keep it with me and maintain it till Hero provide me with original spares. To be very honest i do not find a suitable alternative to this bike. I ride it really less but am heavily attached to it.

The engine is in excellent shape. Tyres, battery, clutch plates, engine oil, air filter , wiring harness, master cylinder kit, brake disc, pads, blinkers, side and rear cowls are all new. I practically got a brand new bike. She just needs a through detailing session as the fairing and fender has become slightly dull. Minor repairs/tune-up and it will be in factory condition.
I must really appreciate Anurag's love for his bike, he never neglected the maintenance or compromised on quality of spares even though he wasn't using the bike regularly. The moment I rode the bike- I understood how much she has been pampered by you.

It goes without saying - you are welcome to ride this black Beauty whenever you want.

I can understand what you are going through and seeing your running which is worse than what I did!

I actually did not have any reason per se to sell the Karizma but it was more of a decision by my Brain rather than the Heart.

Seeing it stand in front of my house covered, cats sleeping on it, birds taking advantage etc and moreover keeping it idle for longer durations isn't good for its internals so had to put a stone on my heart and decide to sell it.

Now she is with a person who loves it more than anything and was his dream to acquire one.

Now dad is pressurizing me to get a scooter for the basic daily errands that couldn't be done because of my Karizma. So all in all there are chances of going ahead and buying a Honda Activa 125. All in the family can use it so the pressure is on me to enquire and get it the best deal.

Hi anurag/fellow bhpians,

What would be the idle price for yellow karizma R 2013, 48k odo. Stock condition No alterations. Detailed service history every 3500km approx. Air filter, brake pads changed twice. Single owner. No accidents.

Thanks

Re: Long Term Ownership Report – Hero Honda Karizma. EDIT: Sold!

It's been 2 years and 11 months since BHPinterc00led has taken possession of this bike and the odometer is now at 35,000 kms. As usual the Karizma is well maintained and used daily. Feels excellent to ride even now.

That was one of the most detailed ownership experiences I've read till date. The ZMA is one treasure trove of a machine. Nice to see that Shoaib is taking good care of it.
