Oh, and if it helps, I changed the front sprocket every 10,000 km.
Brakes, tires and chainset life are directionally proportional to the rider and the usage pattern. Anything taken care of will last surprisingly longer than one antcipates -- but Murphy's Law still takes priority.

True that, Sir!
My stock Metz at the rear still has 1mm tread left at the TWI. Stock front reached the TWI hence changed yesterday.

Pretty much on and off there, the threads have started to dwindle at an alarming rate. It's sad to see it's being candled down to its final flame, sad to see such a brilliant platform taken the back burn, but that's for another day. AP is very much alive and kicking, and he's taken a liking to NS400Z and his gypsy tales are very much in feeds on the blue ribbon.

Cheers!

Re: The KTM Duke 390 Ownership Experience Thread

Hi all,

I ride a Gen 3 Duke 390 and have clocked 20,000 km so far. After the third service (done in December 2024), the bike felt incredibly responsive especially in the lower RPMs where it was eager to jump into the power band. The mid-to-high RPMs were smooth as ever, and I was thoroughly enjoying the ride!

Over time, I did notice a slight drop in responsiveness at lower RPMs, which I assumed was normal. However, around 2–3 weeks ago, the yellow engine warning light started flashing intermittently on my TFT during rides.

I immediately took it to the service center. Since I’d just hit the 20k km mark, they flushed the coolant and engine oil. They said the warning light was due to a sensor issue linked to the speed control functionality (though to be honest, that explanation didn’t convince me). The warning light hasn’t appeared since.

However, post-service, the bike feels noticeably rough. I find myself working harder on the throttle to get decent performance in the low RPM range. I’ve already replaced the air filter, but the roughness still persists.

My next service is due in about a month or ~3,000 km. I'm considering going in early—and I'm also thinking of trying out a third-party garage like IndiMotard for this one.

Would doing so void my warranty?
Also, has anyone here had any experience with IndiMotard for regular service or troubleshooting? How's their approach and attention to detail, especially for performance-oriented bikes like the Duke 390?

Would appreciate your insights!

Might be an O2 sensor problem. You can ask the service center folks to diagnose it. If you have an engine check light, there should be some error code registered in the ECU. O2 sensor issues throw check engine lights and your part throttle fuelling and throttle response will feel terrible. It's a hunch as I've gone through similar symptoms on my Gixxer 250. Similarly lethargic part throttle response and lots of vibes.

The CEL/MIL usually indicates engine mismanagement fault detected by the ECM. The reasons predominantly is related faulty or sensors that are working intermittently. Usually these are self explanatory. When a diag tool is connected to the motorcycle, it almost with 99% accuracy lets the technician know which specific part/sister part is at fault.

If you've done close to 20k kms, I'd strongly recommend you to get your throttle body cleaned and checked. The butterfly valve which opens and closes can perhaps get choked up due to carbon accumulation and sometimes causes delayed and laggy response, that's one.

Secondly, a faulty/failing O2 sensor would mean, stuttering, hard starts, and idling issues. Get it checked at a good independent garage. IndiMotard, BigBear Customs, Joe's Garage, you name it, they're all good at diagnosing the issue and you can get your bike's throttle body inspected, cleaned in the process.

Good luck.

Cheers!

Re: The KTM Duke 390 Ownership Experience Thread

Went to the service center day before yesterday, the diag tool didn't show any errors. Did the throttle body cleaning, service centre guys cleaned it via the air-intake and replaced the spark plugs too.

After the cleaning, all the low rpm enthusiasm came back and roughness is completely gone:

While I was there i replaced the stock mirrors with the new 250/390 adv mirrors too, this shape goes very well with the bike's design imo and visibility is pretty good too..still the dominor's mirror stem is icking me

Thanks for the detective work and now I'm stoked for the ride this Friday

Brilliant. So it was just as I said. 20k kms definitely warrants throttle body cleaning and now the bike should be back to its sprightly nature.

Cheers!
