I think that's the maxi scooter I've ridden.

My friend bought one. Then he picked up another one which he cannibalizes for parts, to keep the better one running.

Cheers, Doc

No it was not a Maxi scooter... It was a regular scooty. Search for Kinetic Blaze

It looked and felt pretty big to me and was definitely not a normal scoot(y)er.

I'm not much into splitting hairs on definitions or pigeon holing bikes into tight categories.

To my mind if it's big (compared to an Activa) and it looks like a scooter (like an Activa) then it's a maxi scooter.

It was the biggest and fastest in its time. Huge stepped seat. Imposing front cowl and windscreen. Tall. Spacious. Bigger than normal engine. And wheels. Definitely a maxi scooter.

Yes definitely it was a bigger scooter than the regular Activa, Jupiter types.... But i was going by the definition, since the Blaze had cargo space near the feet, which the maxi scooters dont have.
Anyways lets see if this catagory of bikes will flourish or get doomed like the Blaze

This is an important point that you have brought up which I was admittedly ignorant about - i.e. maxi scooters have larger chassis, and larger engines (the accepted range is 250 cc to 850 cc, which means none of ours truly qualify, but lets not pick hairs), because of which the engine in mounted into the frame and not the swingarm, and therefore has a step-over rather than a step-through design.

The basic design elements though remain very comfy seat, lots of wind protection, CVT, and loads of storage space in the front and under the seat. In my opinion the step-over design does nothing to make the scooter more like a bike, and you still lose out on the anda-doodh-sabzi-baccha and gas cylinder space, so its a lose-lose. The Blaze surely scored there. It was huge. 165 cc engine. Did 100+. And had the floorboard. With all the look and wind protection. In 2006.

Cheers, Doc

Correct.
Very Well described.
I was so much tempted to buy the Blaze during that time, but it never really materialized...
I have a Jupiter classic now, and being slightly environment friendly, i am sure my next 2 wheeler will be an EV,
My primary reason of choosing a Scooty over Bike, is that Scooty is automatic gear, and in city like Mumbai, with the traffic menace, i dont want to change gears every other second.
Not with EV, even the Bikes are Auto gear and i would be able to choose bikes like Revolt, Tork, Odysse, Kabira etc

TVS Raider wins IMOTY and XUV700 wins ICOTY of 2022

The newly launched TVS Raider and Mahindra's XUV700 were the blockbusters from indian manufacturers.

Glad to see them winning accolades and hearts

Re: TVS Raider wins IMOTY and XUV700 wins ICOTY of 2022

Baffling, the Raider. The award is too specific (motorcycle only) in my opinion. No scooters included. In 2021 the scooter launches were way more exciting than any of these motorcycles least of all a run of the mill, nondescript 125cc economy bike with no standout quality.

Also disheartening to see that one of the biggest brands like Pulsar which was once flag bearer of exiting, beautiful bikes don't even warrant a win at awards now a days be as meaningless as they are.

I like the t-bhp format where there's no distinction between scooters and motorcycles and truly fantastic, exciting trend setting two-wheeler like the Aerox stand a chance to win. That thing is almost a motorcycle and almost a scooter too, it was never going to fit in definitions of these magazine's awards anyway.

How did Raider stand up to Aerox? Aerox, being a path breaking product

Even lesser sales numbers?

Aerox has restricted supply, not sure what is up with the Raider. When this iMOTY happened - biking groups were having discussions and I haven't heard of anyone who claims to have seen one. Even many have never even heard of this launch till this award happened.

However, on a serious note - Scooters are not considered for iMOTY. May be they will introduce an iScoOTY award later.

I agree and soon there has to be ISOTY for scooters or ITOTY for two wheelers

As far as IMOTY criteria is concerned this is what the site explains. CC or novelty alone is not the parameter.

Criteria like price, fuel-efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, value for money, and suitability for Indian riding conditions are particularly important factors while deciding on the winner.

In my view, if I look beyond the engine cc of Raider, the product has tech features, style, mileage. Premium bike at more affordable price and running cost - importantly when petrol is going above ₹100.

A fresh proposition in the traditional motorcycle segment, which is majority in India even now.

I have spotted a grand total of one TVS Raider, since it got launched. Its headlight is so unique that if you see it, you wont miss it. On the styling front, TVS has got things right with this motorcycle.

Ive seen less than half a dozen Aeroxs though, and that is even after counting your scooter that I saw up close at the showroom and my friend's Aerox that I have ridden. At least in some cities like Coimbatore, there is ready supply of Aerox scooters.

Looks like we are getting the HONDA ADV 350, not the HONDA ADV 150. They have a VArio 160 lined up as well. Let us wait and see.
