Riding a Inty 650 since 2019, zero niggles, no breakdowns nothing at all. Touchwood.

Is that a plastic bottle with some (?)petrol and a pipe sticking out of its top connecting somewhere upstairs, right next to the hot engine? What use could it be? Bike looks purposeful and substantial though!

This looks gorgeous from the side - More like a Yamaha Tenere 700 from the side. Brutal performer.

Hit it out of the park RE!

Hopefully the reliability issues will be fixed. The existing Himalayan is quite good, only chink in the armour being it's weight, lower power figures and reliability (or lack thereof).
Hopefully the new liquid cooled engine is reliable and pumps out atleast 30-35 hp.

Who would be going for the first lot of this
one?

Being a Himalayan owner ( 2018-BS4), I am happy currently with the VFM preposition it offers. But you can feel the weight at low speeds.

This new breed is expected to be lessons learnt implemented from last 5-6 years of Himalayan history. Let’s wait and see…

A lot of BHPians will, and people like us who will wait for at least 2nd generation to come will keep on pestering them to write an ownership review the moment they make the booking

Jokes aside, it will be a brand new engine. So waiting for 2nd/3rd gen seems like a better idea. Although we still have a solid 1 year before it launches, and 1 more year for the 2nd Gen. to drop. And rumours are that in 2025 450 will come up a rally version. So for people like us who still have Himmy, can peacefully enjoy it till 2025, unless the upgradation bug bites, and all logic goes down the drain.

There is already a 790cc upgrade available from ProCycle. Suzuki should have an upgrade in the works. RE needs another few decades to get the metallurgy right. Piston rings wear out super quick on the RE UCE and engine starts burning oil. Same for the valve mechanism. Frame cracking and frame components falling apart. The J platform is yet to prove itself. Just need to wait for 30-40k kms on an engine and it will start consuming oil.

It is for this reason that only a rare few manufacturers have got lasting motorcycles and lasting engines. Even brands such as KTM have struggled (790 engine was a disaster). Metallurgy cannot be outsourced or engineered/researched in an year or two.

The Meteor was launched in Nov'20 and since then J-series engine powers all 350cc REs. I already know of a few who have clocked approx. 20k kms on the Meteor and have had no issues. The minor gripes with discs feeling wooden, mirrors stalks not of the best quality and fuel gauges not being anywhere close to reliable are the usual complaints. Nothing that spoils their ownership experience.

Now building a Cruiser or Street Bike is right up REs alley. The smashing success of Inty is enough proof - it was all new grounds up. The Himalayan was a disastrous launch but even that one sells in droves now with only the power figure being the major gripe.

So while i share your apprehension about the new adv, am very optimistic that RE is not the RE it used to be 5yrs ago!

Any idea about the electricals? Any issues of battery drain seen while the bike is left idle for weeks?

The motorcycle looks great! Only grudge I will have on this heavy weight (it is going to be!) is that spoke wheel with tube tires!

If that's the case, it would be a tragedy. Why not they simply put spoke wheels with tubeless tires?

Spoke rims that can hold tubeless tyres are expensive. As far as I know, most of them are patented and companies who want to use need to pay royalty.

Ngl, the speedo positioning looks a little off, but again, it may not be the production spec vehicle. Really excited to see what RE is going to offer with this
