Re: My midlife crisis fix : 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Regarding aftermarket exhausts for the Interceptor, I had PoweRage exhausts installed on my bike after 4500 kms of running. I get my bike serviced at the ASC only every 5000 kms.

I have seen 2 other Interceptors in my ASC and they have Redrooster exhausts. Absolutely no issues with warranty here. They are very happy if you get the regular services done with them.

My bike has done 17000 kms in 13 months and the service centre guys seem to be cool on the warranty aspect. I have 4 th and 5th year extended warranty as well.

Cheers

If it is about the mufflers, what do you need to know?

About the warranty, the service center is not going to say it is okay to change the mufflers and that the warranty will not be void for obvious reasons and unless you are going to get an engine related issue after changing , which I doubt if you will with a 650, then there are chances the warranty may not be honoured. It is your call at the end of the day.

Thanks for your inputs, I have decided to move ahead with exhausts swap, since my ride is a Black Ray I can only find AEW 102 in full black construction or I would have gone for SS matte polish.

I will take chance and move ahead with purchase, my only concern was regarding honoring warranty of bike and I have no intention to remove DB killer so hopefully cops won't be an issue. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: My midlife crisis fix : 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Having waited out the summer months and also for the fear of a puncture on the highway, I headed out for a ride after a 3 month gap. This was not a long ride and the main objective was to ride on the new parallel highway (NH844) between Dharmapuri and Hosur. I had driven on this stretch when the work was on going, couple of years ago and recently watched some drone shot videos of it.

I left early morning to escape traffic and heat and return before it rains, if it did. I was at Krishnagiri by 7am and enjoyed the ride in the cool weather and not too bad traffic. Bike felt good and was in its element doing around 4k rpm. Felt relaxed and sounded good.

The only issue was there was a slight vibration/jumping from the front which I think was the tyre, probably uneven wear. I spotted a small shallow cut as well. I was praying that I make it home without a puncture and kept looking for sharp objects to avoid at every speedbreaker and kept away from the extreme left of the road as much as possible.

The new highway was fun to ride on. No traffic and a well surfaced more or less straight 4 lane highway for almost 50 kms after which there are some deviations due to work in progress upto Hosur. I was able to do some speed runs and surprisingly the usual high speed wobble didn't occur. That was the signal for me to back off the throttle everytime and this time maybe because of the tyre wear, I didn't experience it.
Otherwise the speeds were at the usual ton which is the most comfortable for me and safe. The return was via Hosur-Hoskote via Malur so I could avoid traffic while entering the city and I was home by lunch.

The distance covered was 320 kms with fuel efficiency close to 32 kmpl. Bike has run 13450 kms.

Whaaatt???
How's this even possible? You must share the secret with all of please!
- Where did you ride, where did you fill up first & for how much
- How much time did you take to cover the 320 Km excluding the breaks
- Where did you refill next & for how much

These are bare minimum questions assuming you measured using full tank method using a mobile app.

Thanks in advance

Well, I guess my riding is conditioned from riding the iron barrel Enfields for so many years.

I think it is how gentle one is with the throttle. I keep a steady hand as much as possible on the highway. For an overtake or if I want to speed up, it is a slight twist. I hardly shift down to 4th or even 5th at times and with the fuelX, I don't have to either. It depends on how quick I want to finish a overtake or speed up.

Most of my rides duration is around 4k rpm which translates to an efficient speed for the bike as well as me in terms of windblast. I think it is around 100 kmh and the bike and me feels really peaceful at that speed. And the throttle is probably 20% open.

All my refills are tankful which is an OCD and stick to IOC XP95 if that makes any difference.
I have posted screenshots of the last few refiils. The red ones are mainly city use and the green, rides.

Re: My midlife crisis fix : 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

I guess that is where the difference is, gentle on the throttle.I can never be that,go brap brap through the gears, and end up getting 26.75 kmpl over 18000 kms.The only saving grace is I always get around that figure.

Cheers

Re: My midlife crisis fix : 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Did a quick evening ride to Makali on Saturday.
Thankfully it didn't rain since my tyres are on their way out now. The roads to Makali after Dodballapur is fun although it is just 10 kms from there. But less traffic and wide roads with greenry all around makes it an enjoyable ride especially at the time I went.

The return was via STRR from Dodballapur which is finally in good condition now with a new layer of asphalt. Then crossed airport road and cut off a bit after to the Bagalur road to avoid traffic on the airport road and Hebbal.
I realized using map5 on the FuelX for prolonged revs at 4k rpm makes the engine run better than when it is at map7 or 8.

Bike has crossed 14k kms and is due for a oil change next month and another 1k to replace the tubeless tyres I have in store.
There is a slight valve clatter at a certain rev range which I need to get looked at as well. Otherwise the bike runs just fine.

Pictures taken from the abandoned state highway alignment to Hindupur.

Which tubeless tyre do you suggest? My stock rear tyre has been damaged by puncture guy, he broke the steel wires. In Patna, I am unable to find the suitable rear tyre. Please advise.

These are the tyres I picked up. MRF Hyke. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...-twin-298.html (Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin) post 4459.

I haven't used them yet, so cannot say how good or bad they are. But I am guessing they should be on par of slightly better than the CEAT the bike came with.

I see that you are using Touring seats. How good are they and how much of an upgrade it is compared to stock seats that comes with the bike.

I am planning on getting these and hence the question.

Stock seat was just a narrow bench. I just couldn't be on it for more than an hour. I got the bike with the first touring seat RE had which was again narrow but had some padding on it, but again, I couldn't sit on it for long.
This one is much better since it is wide and also has some support compared to the other two. Cushion is not much on this, but I can ride for atleast 2 hours before a break and mainly, there is no pain on my backside. The pillion seat is wide too on this which makes it comfortable for those behind.

Re: My midlife crisis fix : 2022 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Finally, at 14,100 kms I was forced to change the tyres and move to a tubeless set up when I had kept the plan to change them at around 15000 kms or little more since the stock tyres were still not fully worn. I had the alloy wheels and tubeless MRF tyres with me already.

A week ago, I had visited the petrol bunk to top up and check the air pressure when the front valve was found to be stuck. Whatever they did, the valve pin wouldn't budge. I visited a tyre shop and they too couldn't remove it. Since there was enough air in the tyre, I left it and returned home. After few hours, when I went to take it out, the front was fully flat with no air. Probably it started leaking after all trials of pulling out the valve. I made it worse by using brute force to pull out the stuck pin and now half of it broke and was stuck in the neck. Now I was left with few choices which was get the tube replaced and continue with these set of tyres for some more time or change to tubeless. Either ways, I had to find a way to take the bike to a tyre shop or Royal Enfield Server Center/ workshop. I left the bike idle for a week and decided to do it later. I anyway have my trusty old Bullet to run around within the city.
Nearing the weekend, I decided to get a flatbed to load the bike and take it to Top Gear Thumpers and get the alloys and tyres fitted. I had one puncture and two valve issues (probably stuck because of the puncture fluid I used in the tube) over the last two years and thankfully it was all at home and I didn't want to push my luck and get stranded out somewhere.

The bike was loaded onto the flatbed and taken to TopGear Thumpers. I had to call a friend and take the alloys and tyres by car since there was no space to tie them down on the TATA ACE mini van. At TopGear, it reminded me of my late mechanic's workshop from yesteryears on a Saturday when the place was packed with bikes and customers. There were three Himalayan 450's just for tubeless conversion parked with no wheels. It took an hour after I got there for them to start the work, and was completed in 45 minutes. The reason I chose this place, although it was 15 kms from home was because of the posts of fellow members getting tyre related work done from here and I wanted to proper job so I don't have to keep going back, and that was done as per my expectations here.

Work completed and test ride was done by the mechanic and bill settled and I headed back in peak traffic. Initial impressions were good. The tramlining the CEATs had, are not present on these tyres which makes it much more easier to ride the bike. The bike also feels bit more agile, smoother on bumps and rough surfaces. I need to ride more to know how good or bad the tyres are. but I am quite sure they are better than the CEATs.

It was always on stock. I'll probably upgrade to better ones when these are done.
I have changed the damper setting by one notch from the stock setting which I felt made things bit better.
