Next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 caught testing in India

The first images of the new KTM 390 Duke surfaced online earlier this year. Now, its sister bike, the next-generation Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 has been caught testing in India for the first time.

The camouflaged test mule of the new Svartpilen 401 was recently spotted on the street. It is based on the new 390 Duke and features similar changes, such as the offset rear mono-shock and gullwing swingarm.

That being said, the Svartpilen 401 has a unique design with a new split seat, a large grab rail and an underbelly exhaust. The test bike was equipped with wire-spoke wheels.

The all-new Svartpilen 401 is expected to be powered by the same 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the 390 Duke. It will share the same braking hardware as well.

Next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 spied; looks ready for launch

New images of the next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 have surfaced online. A production-ready prototype was recently spotted at a factory yard, revealing several details of the new bike.

The new Svartpilen 401 appears to have redesigned bodywork but retains a familiar fuel tank design. The bike has a single-piece seat and a narrow tail section with a grab rail at the back.

The new Svartpilen 401 shares its new chassis with the next-gen KTM 390 Duke. It is equipped with an upside-down fork at the front and an offset mono-shock at the rear.

The Svartpilen 401 will also use the same engine as the 390 Duke. Reports suggest that the new unit could have a larger capacity and thus improved performance.

Re: Next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 caught testing in India

Bajaj has quite a few brands under its hat now. Triumph, KTM, and now Husqvarna. Good days for customers ahead. I test rode a scrambler 400 just yesterday and really liked the motorcycle. I am really looking forward for the Svartpilen 401. Husqvarna really needs another motorcycle in their brand. The sole 250 offerings feel outdated in 2023.

This bike looks beautiful, plus the most important part is that it gives people a choice to enjoy duke 390's engine without the "chhapri" image that is associated with the brand now-a-days. I'd seriously conisder this if I were looking for a bike in recent future (other close contender would be Triumph Speed 400)

A good way for people to enjoy the KTM 390 engine, especially if they are not mature enough to ignore the Chhapri tag associated with the Duke.
The greatest shame is that Chhapri bikes always tend to be the greatest value for money propositions. It's a shame we are so concerned about what people think.

I checked with a local dealer and he said they have no such news. Per him, the only bike launching are the ADV variants of the new Duke in mid 2024.

Rumour: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 India launch on Jan 21

Husqvarna has notified its dealers about an upcoming bike launch that will be held on January 21, 2024. It has been speculated to be the next-gen Svartpilen 401.

The new Svartpilen 401 has already been spotted testing in India on several occasions. It is based on the next-gen KTM 390 Duke, which is already on sale in India.

The Svartpilen 401 has a unique design featuring a new split seat, a large grab rail and an underbelly exhaust. It is equipped with an upside-down front fork and a gullwing swingarm with an offset mono-shock at the rear.

The bike will be powered by the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as the KTM. This unit puts out 45 BHP and 39 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch.

In terms of features, the Svartpilen 401 is likely to get an LED headlamp and tail light, a digital instrument console with smartphone connectivity and riding modes.

Also, what about the Vitpilen?

That is pretty good pricing if they are offering the adjustable suspension in India. It is now genuinely a sort of cooler alternative to the Dukes. Also cheaper

Re: Next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 caught testing in India

Oh wow! This launch comes at a really convenient time for me, as I had started looking for a neo-retro styled bike last month. I singled out the Triumph 400X and the Scram 411, However, the Scram seems to be due an update soon and Triumph has no dealers in my city, much to my disappointment.

Duke 390 has the chhapri tag that I'd like to avoid (sad because it's a great bike), and the 250s from Husky feel a little outdated now. Gonna go to the dealership to see if they have received a test vehicle yet any news on the Vitpilen though?

Whatever info is available so far seems to suggest that India will only get the 250cc variant of the Vitpilen.

Also I've got to say I'm not a fan of these busier redesigns by Kiska. I can see the older 401s becoming collector's items in a decade or so.

Re: Next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 caught testing in India

Woke up to this surprise, but now I am not entirely sure what we are getting on the svartpilen 401 in India. Though the spokes are a concern, Pirelli rally tyres would be awesome along with adjustable suspension.
Time to call the dealer ! When i checked there last time, he seemed more interested in selling ktms.

Re: Next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 caught testing in India

Couple of points on the new bikes:
1. It looks like husqvarna has dropped the clip on handle bar on the vitpilen for the flat bars on both.
2. They have taken the scrambler theme a bit more seriously on the svartpilen this time and offered spoke wheels but the ergos are the same as the vitpilen.
3. Disc rotors are new this is the same one seen on the spy shot of adv 390.
4. Seats are broader than the out going model.

Previous gen Husky’s were lighter compared to the equivalent dukes by about 5kgs if not more. These new iterations will likely be lighter, the mass centralisation is very good as compared to the duke making it handle very well.

The let downs i found in them were:
1. mrf tyres they don’t compliment the handling that this bike can offer swapping them for stickier rubber can make them as nimble as a RX and i am not exaggerating this.
2. The heavy rear wheel hugger is an unnecessary design element which husqvarna should have scrapped in the previous gen itself. Removing it made noticeable improvements to the handling. Glad to see thats gone.

Couple of pics from the husqvarnaindia insta page i reckon both 250 and 390 will be launched in India.

Re: Next-gen Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 caught testing in India

I don’t know why but the coolest neo retro design language I’ve ever seen on a bike is Husqvarna and with the banger of a LC4c engine with adjustable suspension this bike (especially at this price) is so cool!! Honestly would’ve gone for this instead of Speed 400 if it was available then, why am I getting that dreaded FOMO :(.

Telling myself in my head continuously that our BMW G310GS is cool too!!
