Re: Harley-Davidson X440 Review

Are those tubed tyres on the base variant with spoked wheels? The yellow looks smashing along with the tan seats on spoked wheels.

All variants get tubeless tyres.

I agree, it's the best looking of the three versions and the spoked wheels go really well with it. The alloy wheel design does not add anything visually to the other two, IMHO.

According to Bikewale (checked to confirm) the Denim version has tubed tyres.

Thank you. This is true and this is how I shall begin the search. I really do not know what I want and for that riding some of these bikes is perhaps the best option.

I haven't but thanks that is good info to have. I shall try riding some of these examples. I have in my younger days done a few long rides on a RX100 and some city riding on an RD350. Motorcycles have some such a long way from those times.

My eventual goal (in 7 to 8 years) have a Honda Goldwing but here I am just a starter. Not ideal I know.

I have booked speed 400 but eager to test ride this one. Glad to be in a position where both choices are great !

Dear Libran
Great review. Please help by replying to following queries:
a) Can you compare the flickability of x440 with CB350? I am able to tilt CB350 from side to side and straighten up again, maybe due to better weight distribution (In comparison Jawa, despite being lighter, feel heavier while tilting from side to side at standstill). Does X440 feel similar to CB350 or lighter?

b) X440-Vivid is 40K costlier than CB350. Does it feel an upgrade over CB350? Is the higher price worth it based on initial impressions?

Thanks a lot.

A big Yes, IMHO. This is the kind of engine CB350 ought to have come up with, instead of just copying RE and ending up with a bike that is colloquially known as 'Honda ki Bullet'. The X440 is a distinct product in a niche of it's own, filling the void left by the demise of Classic/Bullet 500 without blindly copying them.

I did a back to back comparison with the C350 and CB350. Really there is no comparison. The X440 is in a class of its own. Its much bigger than the 350's too.

Take a test ride and I'm keen to know if I'm the only person who feels this way.
Which city are you in Sebring? Most H-D dealers have got their display models.

A friend of mine has gone to Tusker H-D at Lavelle road and seen the bike and sent me a picture. I'm certain that they have a motorcycle. Hope this helps.

Are you sure of the size, here are the comparative figures

Highness vs x440
Length 2163 vs 2168
Width 789 vs not known
Height 1107 vs not known
Wheelbase 1441 vs 1418

Highness is a surprisingly long and large bike for its power output which makes for fantastic ergonomics. I'm very sure that the HD will have an equally comfortable presence and the extra performance on tap will be the cherry on the cake.

Time will tell but I feel despite more of the hype being around the Triumphs, the HD and its derivatives from the Hero family will be a bigger hit in the medium and long term

On paper and in Images the 440 loses. If you get a chance to see it in person, please let me know what you think. Hopefully real comparisons between the CB350, C350 and X440 will begin to come online. The S400 is in my opinion, a completely different segment altogether.

Harley-Davidson X440 Review-x440.jpg

As per this communication, existing H-D dealerships should have a display bike by now.
At least in Pune, designated Hero motocorp dealers are getting the bike after 15th August and test rides afterwards.
