@ sam sant 2005,

Thanks a lot for that short yet informative review. Seems all earlier problem areas areas are rectified by Bajaj this time.
I was a bit worried about cold start as 220 doesnt has a kick starter, do such bikes start in chilling delhi weather without fuss?

So you are giving full care in the running in good, dont know who you people are able to control. Got my Linea and the most i could control was 700-800 kms, after that back to 4-5k rpm shifts occasionaly.

@PatienceWins:
About the engine getting hot I havent noticed yet. I drive only a max of 8kms oneway to office. So havent had any such overheating issues.

I heard the 200/220 engines have been like that and the new oil cooler(with 33% more cooling area) will deal with it. Moreover we have a Engine Temp sensor too, so no ISSUES, atleast we ll know whats coming!

@All:
15 THINGS TO CHEER ABOUT BAJAJ PULSAR 220 DTSi
Did you people know,P220 has :-
1) Blocked air filter indicator
2) Low oil level indicator
3) High engine temp indicator
4) Low battery charge warning
5) Engine temp based ignition mapping
6) Low fuel indicator light apart from fuel gauge
7) High RPM warning
8) Not just Tubeless tyres, it has SOFT Compound tubeless, till now seen only in R15. Its a special grade COSTLY tyre which gives unbeleivable road grip.
9) Graphite based short skirt piston (not sure about the correct term), for anti-seizure capabilities. So high engine temp shouldnt be something to get worried about.
10) 21bhp and 0 to 100 in 11.1 secs which is almost equal to Hyundai Verna CRDi and much much FASTER THAN cars like swift
11) DC wiring. HL switches ON even when engine is OFF.
12) Low beam projector HL is awesome. Highbeam is also powerful since 55W bulb is used.
13) Starter cuts off automatically for a few secs after continuously repeated cranks to protect itself from burn out.
14) Gearbox and Clutch assembly provided by FCC RICO (who are suppliers for Hondaclap
15) Avg mileage till now for owners is above 40kmpl.

and more things too !! and after all these a price of 70k (Ex-Showroom). dont you think this is the best VFM bike in India currently.

an question :- I heard FZ sucks. is it? One proff racer friend of mine said it doesnt even go above 105kmph! And its a stupid bike with just looks and nothing else! And now Fazer is out with same engine!

Out of the 15 you have mentioned, these below have been there on most of the earlier pulsars

Quote:
1) Blocked air filter indicator
2) Low oil level indicator
3) High engine temp indicator
4) Low battery charge warning
6) Low fuel indicator light apart from fuel gauge
7) High RPM warning
11) DC wiring. HL switches ON even when engine is OFF.
13) Starter cuts off automatically for a few secs after continuously repeated cranks to protect itself from burn out.
Quote:
5) Engine temp based ignition mapping
I am not sure if the carb one has this, all it has is Auto Choke which allows the bike to be started with ease in cold starting conditions.

Thanks Sam. It seems to be good value for money. Good that Bajaj is continously improving their products.

My only worry is whether they would start discontinuing their products soon, as happened for 200. I have a 2000 model Fiero and I heard that some spare parts are getting difficult to source. The vehicle has not given any problem other than clutch plate replacement and a leaking fuel tank. The fuel tank is unavailable and I am using the old tank by fixing the leak with M-Seal.

Waiting to see the new Karizma. I hope it wont be costly. 220 seems to be good VFM with all the features.

Try googling you will be more than happy to find that P220 DTSi does have engine temp based ignition mapping. Ignition has nothing to do with FI/Carb dude, its just about setting the 'timing' on when to fire the spark plugs.

And about other things I really havent seen a Pulsar other than 220 till date which has DC wiring. And in which other can you keep Headlights ON when engine is off? Not to mention that in new P220, the HL auto cuts off after a few seconds if engine is off!

Air filter, low oil and other misc things which I mentioned, I agree might be there in older pulsars but I was merely talking about P220 DTSi FEATURES dude.

FEATURES OVER FEATURES that is P220 DTSi for you

When Did I say they are related? All I said was that carb has Auto Choke feature which you might be confusing for engine temp based ignition mapping. That said it has both.

Did you check the P200, it had the same feature.

Mileage - 41kmpl

ODO - 365kms.

Twice I checked and I got 41kmpl.

I use my P220 DTSi daily to office which is 9kms away from home. I have three Traffic signals which bear the highest traffic (in Kerala). Basically although its a NH47 Bypass. So can say its like 60% highway, 40% very slow moving traffic. I ride in 55 - 65kmph.

So by any chance I feel this bike should fetch a MINIMUM of around 45-48kmpl on Highway under normal driving.

sam_sant2005

Thanks for that FE update. I am still unclear what would new p220 give in city though it hardly matter because my Honda Activa gives below 30 as i ride it hard style as fast as it can go I am sure i will get more in the p220.

Wasnt Bajaj claiming something above 50 on highways? Lets wait till one of you go on a full highway trip.

FE update

ODO - 600kms

I have increased my driving speed marginally from 50-60 kmph to 60-65kmph.

So the mileage I got now is 39kmpl. (60% heavy traffic)

I ll be giving for first service next week so expect a further increase in mileage after that.

By any case I think on a long strech without much traffic, this bike should fetch above 45kmpl in cruising speeds of 55-65kmph.

First, Congrats on the new bike! It is probably the best around -

I was reading the new features you had mentioned, and for me it was heart breaking to see 'soft compound' tires - I have an R15, and these tires are so much prone to punctures - I've already replaced my rear tires, and I have 2 punctures already

May be these tires are meant for the tracks - Why put them on a street bike? :(

Hi Guys,

Its almost two months and ~1500kms. Iam totally happy and satisfied with the performance of the bike.

Only aprehension is when some say, off late Bajaj bikes have bad engines. As of now everything is fine. My old pulsar stood well for 5 yrs and 35k kms.

So a bit scared to rip it the way i used to in my P150. So i drive normally in gears. Just drive smoothly without undue strain on the engine. Though have taken it to 125 once.

The bike is heavy and hence has great control on the highway. It does well on minor potholes. well planted and confident.

If engine stays like this, anyday P220 DTSi is the best bike in the country today for the price

Mileage:
Worst 33. Best 41.
Avg 36-37.

Current driving speed 80-90kmph city. Mileage 35

Sam, Happy to know that you are happy with the bike. You are fortunate to have less traffic in Cochin compared to total chaos like Bangalore. My native is Cochin.

There have been reports of 220 engines become harsh once they clock some mileage. Good that you are taking care of it properly during the inital period.
