hey.. thump thump.
i own a 09 Standard 350 run arnd 4500kms.
the bend pipe has become blue due to the bike running lean initially
the bike is still under warranty so i will get the bend pipe replaced at workshop
i just want to know if i can remove the catcon and just get the new bend attached to already existing long bottle.
if yes will i have to change anything on the carb ?

Removing the hot tube = loss in low end torque. If you do remove it, do a plug chop at WOT and upjet if necessary. But, why do you plan to remove the hot tube as the STD350 is best at speeds under 80 whereas the hot tube impacts performance positively only between 80-100 Ks. You're better off staying away from 80+ speeds if you aim at reliability.

Cheers,

Jay

thnx for ur reply jay.

please:pardon my ignorance
by hot tube do you mean the catcon or bend pipe?

i just plan on replacing the bend pipe with a brand new one.
i will post pics of the color of the bend tomorrow.

i was suggested by some1 to get the catcon removed so the long bottle silencer + bend pipe mimicks the qualities of a free flow minus the thump.
is this right or wrong?

On Indian Bullets the hot tube works as the cat con. This tube will be in the bend pipe. You need to spot weld it and remove it from the bend pipe. The older bend pipes were free flow. The thump will be there even if you remove the hot tube but the issue is you'll lose low end torque as the restriction helps low end torque at the expense of top end power.

Jay

Another diff. that you will observe is that there will be no air blabbering noise (like Chik chik chik ) and the thump will a bit louder and clear.
As far as Low end torque is concerned,I dnt think that Hot tube can play a vital role in that. Its more dependent on the crank weight than the bent pipe alone.
Overall You'll feel that your bike is running freely.

No, the hot tube matters. It makes a big difference in the low end torque.

Jay

My planning to go for the upswept exhaust for my cl350 on delivery (ie. in two days) good or bad idea, or should i wait till after the run in period. Hear about back pressure and back firing issues on swapping exhausts, i have limited knowledge on the same, please help. If do go for the change hoe is going to affect the performance.

Thanks in advance!

Will definitely try this someday simultaneously with a free flow bent pipe and will post the results.
Thanks for the enlightenment.

Though It will not play a vital role in affecting your engine the either ways,However it is advisable to wait for atleast first 500 kms.
In a way You can also relate both the exhausts on performance charts.

Thanks. But does it require to rejet, if i do go for it later?

Re-jetting is not dependent on Hot Tube.
If u hear some popping sound ,once u leave throttle u might need to do some small air-fuel mixture settings.

Great. Thanks again.

Hi all. I just finshed 500 km on my machismo 500. How long should I do the run-in? Also can I go in for the swept up silencer of the CL500? I want a nice thump without affecting the performance. Please suggest

I would suggets u to Run it smoothgly for another 1000-1500 kms till the time it settles itself to ur riding style. After that u an start with ur ripping.:D
Also the classic 500 upswept exhaust might not give a totally different thump ,the way u r expecting.
Its just slightly louder than a short bottle.

Thanks Saurabh. I will do the same and get back soon
