The A has a very cramped back seat.
Thanks for clarifying. Along with that, (in the A) I believe the headroom also will be tight for tall passengers at the rear seat.

Depends on what you want the A-class to do

If the intention is to grab attention, Polo GT TSI will not even come anywhere close. Nor will the Jetta.

True.

But what if you have 25-30 lakhs to blow on a car and practicality isn't a priority? What if you're buying a car for what it IS and not what it does? That's where the A class has little competition.

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

@Rehaan, is there a review of A180 CDI (diesel) coming up? That will be interesting, for sure. For one, a manufacturer has launched a diesel model which is cheaper than the petrol one.....it lacks a few blings, but nothing significant I believe.

Other thing is no parking sensors or reversing camera. It is a pain to park in city. A royal pain. I wasn't even able to reverse into the showroom parking slot itself.

theses points are noted and I too felt the same after driving it for the second time.infact I did not even try reversing as the mirror inside is too small for my liking. The car is like a super model, everyone oogles at it but difficult to be married to it. Now my search for jetta starts, first the used market and if nothing materialises a new one.

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

I saw one in a Mall in Mumbai. Rear visibility is non-existent and they are not even providing reversing sensors let alone a reversing camera.

As a Guru, I advise you to buy the Merc with your eyes closed. Either way your wife wont be driving the car

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

Drove A Class for a few kms today. I found head room was tight even for the driver and front passenger if they are tall. You could manage with lowering the seat, but then getting in and out of the car would take some effort. The power seemed adequate for city traffic. Overall a car high on looks and style and low on power, comfort and practicality.

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

Easily the most comprehensive and exhaustive report of the A-Class! 5 Star stuff!

A-Class looks worth a million bucks! It looks fab(petrol), is built fab but drives not so fab. I mean, come on Mercedes! Just plonk that C's 2.2 litre as an engine option for A for us enthusiasts. On the other hand, diesel, that loses some miscalleneous bits and doesn't look as eye-catching as the petrol one. Build quality seems to be of top order in each Benz these days and A is no exception. But people those who want a true-blue SUV will buy an SUV only, A-Class is for that Tuxedo wearing person who likes luxury in a small package and prefers fuel-efficiency and refinement.

Success of A-Class in the long run is likely to be bird-watched by every manufacturer. It may even persuade top-class makers like VW, Ford etc. to bring their successful hatches like Golf and focus respectively. All I can say is, let's wait and watch!

Keep revvin'

Re: Mercedes A-Class : Official Review

UPDATE

I re-confirmed with Mercedes regarding a few things. The reply seemed to be a bit different this time :
  • Parking sensors are NOT part of standard equipment
  • Reverse camera is NOT part of standard equipment
  • The diamond grille IS part of standard equipment (for the first 400 cars sold)

The review has been updated accordingly.
