I am facing a starting trouble sometimes and the "Immobilizer" warning lamp blinks and Page 41 of the manual says that it could be due to:

1. Disabling of the engine if the original key is not used even though I tried using both the keys given to me when I purchased the car.
2. Problem with the key/system.

Is anyone else facing the same issue with your Tiago? When I contacted the GM of the After Sales workshop, he told me to try locking/unlocking 2-3 times as this happens when it is not locked correctly. But, it did not work even after that.

I had a similar issue with my Manza - but that happened when I replaced the old keyfob with an aftermarket one after the original had lived its life. I wouldnt expect that being the case with you.

Try and shake the key and see if you hear any rattling sound. That would mean that the RF chip inside has come loose. If that is the case, open the keyfob and make sure its sitting tight in its slot. This is what was the issue with my new key fob and the issue has gone once I slotted the chip properly and put a 2 sided tape to make sure it doesnt get dislodged again.

Anybody upgraded their wheels to 15 inch? What are the options and is there any warranty issues?

It should be an issue as you will be installing wheels unapproved by TATA.
It will be the same story with any other car.

I have owned a Tiago XZ (Revotron) for over 7 months and covered 5600 km. It is not much as I have two other cars - Honda Cities sharing the daily runs. This note is largely about my experience with the performance of my Tiago in city driving.

Initially I was moving back and forth between Delhi and Noida through DND daily. The road was very clear in the early morning with an average speed of 50 kmph. In the evening average speed was only 25 kmph. This enabled me to get a very good mileage - 15.5-16 k/lit - in the first few months till around 3000 km of running. Thereafter, most of the driving has been in typically heavy Delhi traffic at peak times - morning 9.30 am and evening 5.00 pm. The fuel efficiency certainly went down to 13 to 13.2 km/l with AC running most of the time.

After about 4500 km on the odometer the engine definitely felt smoother and more free running. Now, with the AC off the car has more than adequate performance if you work the gears to keep above 2000 rpm. I am able to keep up with and often overtake other cars like Dzire, Xcent, Celerio etc.

When starting up from cold the engine has some hesitation after up shifting to 2nd gear. This is for about 1/4 km and then it becomes normal. I also noticed something strange which is confirmed after several checks by me. The engine runs smoother and seems freer when the fuel tank is full as opposed to half full or less than half. Don't ask me why this happens - it shouldn't make any difference.

I have driven at 100+ kmph and find the car very stable and planted. Even on bad roads at moderately high speeds car feels very safe.

With the AC running the engine seems strained and the acceleration is definitely a problem especially when climbing up one of the many flyovers in Delhi. However, this is much less apparent in heavy traffic. In heavy bumper to bumper traffic the problems I have faced are i) occasional clutch judder and ii) at crawling speed it is difficult to keep a smooth movement. If one presses the accelerator slightly there is many a time jerky movement as the accelerator pedal is very free and difficult to adjust at low speeds. The clutch is very free and easy and not much stress on the foot operating it frequently.

At higher speeds the engine is much more audible but the music system can cover all that up with the excellent sound. With all the windows up and with AC blower at no. 1 setting there is practically no sound in the cabin till the engine revs over 2500-3000 rpm. Overall in normal city driving the engine is more than adequate. Actually I bought a small car as driving becomes less stressful and navigating through heavy traffic is definitely easier. Also, having owned a Maruti 800, Esteem, Baleno (old), 3 generations of Honda City I am fed up of the paper thin body panels. There are occasional mishaps (accidents) and the body is difficult to repair and keep in good shape. One of the reasons I bought the Tiago was owing to the heavier sheet metal. At least denting and repairs will be much easier!

Steering, suspension and seating comfort are all excellent.

After a lot of research and debate, I finally booked a Tiago petrol at Prerana motors, Bangalore. I was promised delivery in about 3 weeks. So far so good. Then, after about 6 days, the sales guy send me a message that the price had increased. The increase is a whopping 15k, on road! This makes the car 6.25 otr.

The experience so far had been disappointing. Concorde motors seemed interested in selling me the car, whereas Prerana motors was very responsive. Based on this, I took the plunge and booked the car at Prerana. But now, their response has become poor and has me frustrated. Every query requires multiple phone calls and the feeling I'm getting is that they're doing me a favour by selling me the car.

The Tiago is a good car, not a great one. It's really the price that makes it a great package. With Tata dealers still behaving this way, I don't see how Tata can expect to regain list market share.

I'm now wondering if I should go ahead with the purchase or cancel the booking and buy something else.

Take up the issue with Tata motors through Twitter. The issue will be promptly solved. During my purchase of Tiago my interactions with Tata customer service was very pleasant. I booked the car from one dealer, later cancelled that and finally purchased from another dealer. The TSM from Tata called me to know the reason for cancellation. When I told her that I have already purchased the car from another dealer she told me that she knows that and the reason for her call is that she wants to understand what mistake the previous dealer did that resulted in cancellation.

Which variant are you referring to ? I have not heard of any recent price hike. I think they hiked the prices last when they launched the Automatic in March 2017 which I am aware of - is this a new hike in April or May?

Tata hiked prices just a few days ago this month but did not announce it loudly. They have hiked prices of the Tiago 6 times in 14 months. I'm actually surprised that nobody here on TBHP noticed it. Even the Hexa has been affected.

Thanks for sharing the information. This is atrocious :deadhorse
Looks like I made the correct decision in booking the Ignis Delta AMT variant and dropping the Tiago XZA. Tata guys refused to give me any discounts or freebies also while I managed to get 9K worth of accessories free with Ignis.

Had I booked the Tiago XZA which was already at 6.71L, it would have moved even closer to the Ignis Delta AMT (7.0 L). I think the Value For Money factor is growing thinner by the day. C'mon Tata, that 3 cylinder ain't worth so many hikes...

The way I see it, Tata has positioned the Tiago between the Celerio at one end and the Ignis, and the Swift at the other. Fortunately for Tata, the Ignis hasn't been a big seller. The sales figures and the easy availablity show that. But if Tata thinks it can get away with higher prices, then people will walk away and it will once again be forced to give discounts on unrealistic list prices.

My assessment of the Tiago is that it is a better package overall than the Celerio and that's the main reason I have booked it. I wasn't impressed with the Ignis mainly because I think that it's overpriced. Had it been about 40k - 50k less, it would have been great value.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping that things with my booking will be sorted out soon and delivery will happen smoothly.

Ignis entered the Top 20 sales chart last month and sold more than the Tiago (Ignis - 5030 vs Tiago - 4115).

While this is a small number in the Maruti Portfolio - it is still a decent number when compared overall. The Sales of Tiago reduced due to the introduction of Tigor and it looks like the Tiago number of 5000+ a month will now get distributed between the two cars

Tiago is definetely a better package than the Celerio and on paper looks better than Ignis as well as we get a top variant here and a base + 1 only for the same price.

However, Maruti has done a very decent job of providing better loaded lower variants. The list of features that Maruti is providing on the lower variants of Ignis is commendable. Just to provide some items for example of features which are standard across variants:
  1. 15 inch Wheels with Bridgestone Ecopia Tires (Tiago has 13 inch wheels on lower variants)
  2. Dual Airbags, ABS + EBD and IsoFix (Tiago does not offer ABS even in the Safety Pack)
  3. Body Colored Door Handles and ORVMs,
  4. Tilt Steering
They have done this and missed out the AMT on the top end...

In your case, based on the price you quoted, my understanding is that you are going for the Manual Variant. Given the manual variant the Tiago may edge out the Ignis. (The rear seat of the Tiago is a question mark here and is inferior to the Ignis. I am sure on a long drive, the rear passengers would be happier on the Ignis...)

In my case I am going for the Automatic variant and the AMT peformance is visibly superior on the Ignis. The lag between the gear shifts is way better and smoother given the 4 cylinder engine. In my case going for the Tiago would have meant a compromise on the AMT performance for the loaded features of the Tiago...

All this of course, if one can digest and withstand the horrid rear design of the Ignis which is an eyesore!

Another perspective here is, being in Bangalore we are getting a bad deal  , for the price I am paying for the Delta Variant Ignis AMT, I could get a Zeta AMT Variant in Delhi :deadhorse, How unfair is that ?!

By Maruti standards, the Ignis is selling poorly. Everything they make below 10 lakhs is selling like hot cakes!

Only the Nexa cars are well equipped with safety features. Cheaper Maruti cars are selectively equipped - only driver airbag, etc. If a take a Tiago XT with safety package, the price difference between it and an XZ is so little that it makes more sense to just buy an XZ. However, I agree with you that lower variants should atleast have an option of full safety package, on principle. I say on principle because not enough Indian car buyers have enough awareness of the need for these safety features so they tend not to buy them.

As for 15"wheels on the Ignis, that is a styling feature so it's not an apples to apples comparison with the Tiago. In my opinion, things like body coloured handles are not real value addition so i generally ignore them. What really counts are high value features like ABS, dual airbags, EBD, pretensioning seat belts with load limiters.

In any case, the Tiago XZ does have all these features so the car is good value, despite it reducing with every price hike. But Tata will really be pushing its brand credibility if it hikes its prices any further.

Drive the 3 cylinder engines in Tiago and the 4 cylinder engines in Ignis back to back and you will understand what you are missing out in terms of refinement, NVH, performance and driveability. 15 inch wheels are not a styling feature. Bigger wheels provide better dynamics.

It is poor on Tata that ABS is not available, not even on as an option on any model bar XZ. ABS is not a luxury item in Indian automotive scene anymore. THe USP of Tiago is Swift sized vehicle at a competitive price but looks like the price is slowly being bumped up.

Tata need to realize a customer will automatically pay a premium for a product which is well established and has made a name for it. Tiago is still in infancy. It has potential to be a good seller for them as long as they keep it reasonably priced. They can always raise the price later when it has established firmly in the market.

Perhaps nitpicky, so feel free to clarify what you meant by dynamics (e.g. did you mean just handling/cornering G's, or general performance including 0-60 times).

Road and Track measured the performance of upsized wheels, and found mixed results at best Link. While the tire upsizes correlated with better performance on the skidpad, just about everything else suffered. That includes acceleration and fuel economy (of course, tire compound/grip plays a role, but still). Note the increase in the unsprung weight increase per wheel too.

For hatchbacks with the kind of power rating that the Tiago (and the Ignis) have, I dare say that the 15" wheels don't amount to being more than a styling feature.
