There is news for prospective buyers. A customer managed to 'persuade' the showroom to waive off the handling charges while purchasing a Tata Nexon. Here are the links to the story

Hey sahas83,
Were they able to figure out why was there a loss of power in top gear, and is that now rectified or still the same along with the other alleged sensor issues?

I too wanted to share this same news on reading it on CarToq, that is why I mentioned in my previous post that TML Dealership in Dehradun has removed the Handling Charges column from their Price List altogether, and the Ex-Showroom Price matches the price quoted on the website, so they haven't added it there as well. Way to go... :thumbs up

And after being through the service all through the day, just returned home about 40 kilometers away from the service center to find that my coolant is leaking from a pipe near the engine block every time I switch the car off. The service center guys have promised to do the needful tomorrow, as it is too late to do anything today. So, enjoy the ownership hassles as they come. Because the rest of the time things are good and we never thank the company for providing a trustworthy ride. My 4 years of ownership have been pretty trouble free most of the time, just a few off instances like these, but I love my car and do not regret buying it back then at all. |
Finally, after a day's delay, the punctured Hose Pipe was replaced with an original Tata Motors Genuine Accessory Hose Pipe at a local dealership yesterday, paid for by the Tata Motors Workshop from where I got the service done the other day. Incidentally, this workshop owner used to be a mechanic in that same dealership till last year, and just opened this service centre nearby recently. I am yet to get a free refill of Coolant from them as well, but at least for now the problem has been solved through various phone calls to the Service In-charge and without a single penny spent from my pocket for labour charges, part etc. :thumbs up
Whenever I change my car, I would love to give TML a chance again before looking for vehicles elsewhere. We have owned 2 Tata Sumo's in the past as well, and a very good service experience with them.

IMHO this is not a ‘problem’ with the car but improper Driving style. The 6th ratio is an overdrive ratio meant for cruising and higher speeds. At 60kmph in 6th the car is not in the torque zone and I am sure it is not an economy zone as well for the car. It will probably be ticking over at idling RPM. In fact it is probably the anti stall feature most cars have that doesn’t allow the car to stall at this speed/gear combination. (Like Driving a Car at almost zero speed with little throttle input in second gear.)
In this case the ECU will probably be taking a few milliseconds or so to come out of sleep mode and kicking it up when you step on the accelerator. Ideally the manual should have the fuel economy speeds mentioned. It is a good indicator of the speed expected to be in that gear.
Managed to find it on the manual
The speed indicated for economy in 5th is 80 means if you are driving at 60 in 6th you are certainly not
In the powerband

Thanks torquecurve, sounds legit. Just wanted the owners perspective and what was told by the SA and TML folks.
Now sahas83's got an issue with the car and I really would like to know the cause (my Nexon is booked and am awaiting delivery). Might be a big breakthrough for TML in terms of quality control and prevention.

Sahas,
You could write to Mr. Guenter Butschek directly and seek a clarification on your car. Please be precise and concise in your mail without being melodramatic. Ask him for a quick solution to this issue. I'm sure it would have the desired effect.
Highly unfortunate that you are going through this. Fingers crossed for you.

As far as I know, handling charges have been declared illegal. There is no need to 'persuade' to the showroom. If a dealer demands handling charges, just write to the higher ups of the respective manufacturer.

Hi Sahas, you are very ‘Sahasi’ like all of us who were brave enough to buy a Tata. We currently have 5 Tata’s from 2 previous generations in the family and love our cars which have almost never let us down. So don’t worry and hang in there.
I do understand that this problem could be due to software. But I have a strong feeling that this is more than that. Have them
Check the electricals. Sometimes computers are not able to tell us the whole thing and will need some bit of old school work. Ask them
To check for
- earth leakage
- loom continuity
- voltage drop at furthest point - battery terminal to tail lamp
- check the fuse box connections.
- if they can ask them to replace the ECU
From a mechanical perspective ask them to check the transmission oil for dirt and colour - also you can just pull the dipstick and check for engine oil discoloration. These will indicate mechanical problems if any. However by the symptoms I don’t feel that to be the case but no harm in ruling it out.
One important question - are there any aftermarket accessories fitted, including a phone charger that plugs into your car. If yes - try removing that and see.
All the best and don’t worry.
I have few questions please:
I booked Nexon XM last year in December with Concorde Motors, Paschim Vihar New Delhi. This dealer has 2 stocks left from the last year batch (silver and red) which are quoted to me at 8.38 lakhs on road Delhi, respectively.
- Are Nexon diesels complaint with BS-VI norms? If no then is this possible for some minor upgradation which makes the engine compatible with Ultra Low Sulphur mixture?
- Diesel cars sales are very low in NCR especially in Delhi. Does that make a wise decision to go for a DL registered diesel now when effective 1st April BS6 fuel is coming in Delhi (possible in NCR regions as well)?
- If above questions are fairly in NO :Frustrati is that a wise decision to go for Tigor XZA provided that both cars are satisfying my basic needs?
I visited the showroom for another look at the Nexon. The RM informed me that soft bookings for AMT have started. He expects it to launch mid-March and prices to be 50 to 60 thousand over the equivalent manual versions.
Guys today i finally booked my Nexon XZ+ petrol white dual tone so i am really very excited. How was my experience at the Tata showroom want to share the same below.
I was in constant touch with the sales manager at Fairdeal motors Srinagar Kashmir. He was very courteous and professional plus had very good knowledge about the car and its features. Not that i didnt know about the car specifications but i still enjoyed the way he presented the car. I had messaged him after a test drive some 20 days back that i will be booking the car today and he was giving me details and new updates almost every time something came up.
Today i took my wife along to book the car so was very excited and hoped I receive a very nice and professional treatment from people at Tata. Once i reached, the same person with whom i was in touch with received me and escorted me to the lounge. Inside the showroom he requested me to take a look at the White and Grey dual tone color model which had arrived few days ago. I was more than happy to check it out and boy it looked gorgeous. The grey lines just perfectly blended into the roof and the black cladding and honey comb grille were just looking like made for each other on white color. I had chosen Red dual tone to be honest but after i saw this new beauty i changed my mind. Red dual tone was not available with the dealer till date so was just checking out the pics only before i could decide. Wanted a real feel of the red dual tone but unfortunately that couldn't happen. I changed my color instantly to white dual tone as it looked better with not in your face rear.
Coming to the booking, the sales guy gave me the new rates which were applicable from 2018 and i realised they are inflated. I asked him why is it so and he said handling charges are included. I told him it's illegal and instantly he just accepted my request and said i need not to pay handling charges on delivery. Kudos to him and Tata for accepting my request. He was very patient with me and answered every question with aplomb to make me feel happy and i was completely satisfied with the overall experience. He gave me a waiting time of about a month for white dual tone as the one available was a diesel variant and said if i am not ready with money on time he will wait till i arrange the money which was such a nice gesture. Hats off to Tata and such dealers who make a customer feel at home.clap:
Check out some pics of the white dual tone variant which i clicked.

Nothing to worry. The Nexon diesel is BS-IV compliant. When BS-VI comes, it does not mean that BS-IV will have to be phased out. You can go for these 2017 manufactured Nexon's.

You sir are a genius and your explanation is so legit. :-) I will do some more tests. I have taken the car back from the showroom and TATA has promised to update the software within 7 working days. In terms of the ride quality, the car is brilliant.
Will keep everyone posted on this in the next week or two. Also, some photos incoming shortly! :-)
