My front left shock absorber developed some play in the main steel rod that gets mounted into the vehicle. Arka asked for both the front shocks to investigate and now they have been sitting with Arka for 3 weeks with no answer as to will they be replaced or repaired.

My local supplier was nice enough to put in the stock shocks in the front so that I can still use the car.
This is concerning. I'm looking at AVO and even today I called arka and no one picks up. Then called xenex Hyderabad. At the moment I don't have any complaint on the stock shocks but more aggressive usage might warrant the suspension swap. ARCs support isn't that great and wonder arka could be better as they are focusing on motor sports. Assumed they had the expertise to rework the shocks.

Call Vinay in Bangalore. And whatsapp him your issue. I have told him to expect a call for help from Hyderabad.

Hey, I got my suspension and Arka underbody shields from a different person in Hyderabad, will DM you his contact, my experience with him has been quite good. I stayed away from ARC due to short warranty and had read a few bad stories about their support on team bhp. Have you checked out the ironman suspension for thar ? Have been seeing them online.

I also have AVO installed in my Thar.
While they did magic to the ride and drive feel, one front and one rear damper leaked oil after about 3000km use, no off roading/rough use all 3k kms in city and highway.
ARKA has agreed to replace them but as of now they don't have stock so waiting.

Mine also have not seen any off road use, have had them for about 7000 kms and have been using them on road mainly. You're right about the normal ride quality improving significantly, however I hope they do survive rough road abuse well too. Maybe other users can share there long term experience.

Hey, can you please share a pic as to how does the 70mai looks on Thar's rather straight windshield? TIA

I would like to check Ironman. They are meant to be really abused. I am not rushing yet to change the stock unless otherwise I am absolutely convinced on the troublefree nature of these after market shocks. Fyi, mine is Feb 2023 made Thar D AT HT and the suspension is far superior, I feel, when compared to the stock 2020 or 2021 or 2022 I have test drove. Could be just me or the samples are abused ones. But the way they tackle the road undulations are far superior than 2nd gen Innova and X1. Less noise intrudes inside cabin and I don't even feel those undulations and ruts. But the speed bumps like the striped ones causes the vehicle to unsettle. There are lots horizontal movements as well which are still ok to live considering the confidence this tank brings in and looks and questions it warrants when stands till.

Compared to Scorpio CRDE 2006 I feel this setup is far more livable and it's not required to swap for something like AVO especially if these aftermarket ones aren't properly supported or serviced.

My street is completely broken down due to major drainage works and the way this thing handles these off road level situation brings me a big grin. That slightly high idle rpm requires no footwork and the car just GLIDES over these is hard uneven mud road like nothing happens underneath. I am super happy.

Hey, if the new Thars are coming with significantly improved suspension, than to be honest I would also suggest to wait and watch, perhaps drive your car back to back with someone who has the aftermarket suspension. I wouldn't blame the Thar for getting unsettled on the white rumble strips Hyderabad, those strips are terribly designed and unsettle just about any car.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Has anyone tried the new official Mahindra arm rests for the front and back? Are they any good?

I just went and had my AVO’s reset today.
They have to be dialled up clockwise until there is no more ‘give’. This means that they are at the ‘stiffest setting’. Then they have to be dialled down in order to soften the suspension, click by click, in the anti clockwise direction. 11 clicks for the front. 12 clicks for the rear. This is an optimally comfortable setting.
This has to be done either with the vehicle lifted on a two post lift or on a hydraulic lift or when it is positioned over a service pit or ramp. And while it can be done as a DIY, one will need a pair of nose pliers or a monkey wrench.

I've got the front arm rest installed. The surface area is quite small but decent and does its job. The space is meant to rest only one arm....so either it's the driver or the front passenger.

People should invest in Mahindra Cars instead of Crypto/Stock Market

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

So the long awaited friend has made his anticipated appearance yesterday. I went in for an engine oil change(a premature one at 4.7k kms which I generally do with my new cars before the stipulated 10k) at MASS yesterday. Tyre rotation was carried out too.

While we were just heading out for a test drive with the QC folk, the DPF and REGEN lamp lit up at the gate itself. In fact i've been using the Thar in city quite a lot in last few days and wanted to find out the limit I can push before DPF warning pops up. It turned out that I clocked around 230 kms in city with plentiful idling with AC on owing to peak summer. So the error was due since I didn't make any conscious effort to keep the DPF in good spirits. I was provoking the system instead

We've hit an empty 4 lane peripheral road in 2 kms and I took over the wheels. The odo was 4785 kms then. My Thar is a D AT. I shifted to tiptronic mode and started driving it in gear 2&3 and above 2.5-3k rpm. There was an intermittent beep to alert you of the ongoing warning message. 18 mins and 18 kms of Italian tune-up and fun at 3k rpm in lower cog, the warning disappeared expectedly. This is the standard procedure as most of you would know. Sharing the experience for the larger audience. Attaching the relevant MID snaps below.

On a side note - Ironically, in the name of better and cleaner emissions, I ended up burning more fuel and hence sort of swept the dust under the carpet. All is well now
