1. Infotainment UI has changed and looks better.
2. Steering angle and few more data are now unlocked which are good.

Can you please post pictures of the same and also, do you have any info if the cars with the older UI would be updated?

I am not sure if discs are needed to be changed so early. On the brake pads, many on the forum have got it changed at 15k KMs as well so it depends on the way one drives and the driving conditions.

My GT is reaching 30k KMs and I am still on stock brake pads. Driving is 40-60 city-highway but the city drives are very hectic here in Pune so they could be nearing a change soon.

My car (Slavia 1.5 DSG) has done 13k. 60 % pads remain, but the discs have been warped from almost day 1. I experience brake judder when braking from highway speeds once the discs reach typical highway temperatures.

Ideally the OEM should change it under warranty since it is a manufacturing defect. Could not convince the dealer otherwise. Been hearing about it from quite a few folks. Clearly there is an issue.

I plan on getting discs and pads replaced at the 15 k mark. I was quoted around INR15 k for the entire set not including labour.

Pads have to be replaced when discs are, but not the other way round.

Someone also mentioned a wirebrush/ chirping noise while braking with moderate force on the pedal. This is normal too.

Getting the pads scrubbed clean and the drum brake shoes scrubbed gets rid of this. DO NOT LET THEM SCRUB THE DISC!!

+1 to above. Authorised svc would never suggest to scrub the disc, they will always ask to replace when the need be. I have not experienced such issues with the GT for these 30k KMs.

Last annual service(@ 22k kms) they checked and mentioned that the pads have enough life left and might need replacement the next time the car comes for annual service.

Hi, this is to all the BHPians, we have 4 cars with us currently in Mumbai, a 2010 i20, 2011 Polo, 2011 Honda City and a 2019 Honda Civic. Since our i20 is completing 15 years this year and with the car having reliability issues, we are replacing the car with something better. Coming from a Civic, which is a very comfortable car to drive and being comfortable for the passengers as well, we are looking for something which is similar.

The new car would be driven on the highway once or twice a month for 15-20 hour long road trip journeys which is why my family is considering 2 cars, the MG Hector, which is the preference of my family as it's an SUV, but does not appeal to me with the horror stories associated with it and since my friend owns a Volkswagen Virtus 1.5 GT Plus Edge edition, and after looking and the car and taking a short TD of his car as well as one in the showroom, I fell in love with the Virtus, causing me to persuade my family to go for one, which is why is it worth it to go for an MG Hector by slightly stretching our budget of 20 lakhs or getting a Virtus, or convince my family to look at the XUV700 which is in the same segment as the Hector as within the next 1-2 years, we will purchase another car, which is meant to be an upgrade to our Civic.

The car would be used for a long period of time of minimum 10-12 years. Please help me decide and thank you for all your support.

The first question you need to ask yourself is whether you need 4 cars. If the i20 is being used as a beater car, replace it with something which is a good general replacement for it (maybe a Dzire or something from the premium hatchback segment itself). You have a Civic to take care of the highway duties, and as I understand, your Polo and City will also be reaching 15 years of age pretty soon. Why not look at a car in the luxury segment to replace these two? Maybe an A4 (while the massive discounts last), or even an X3 (the previous generation cause it's so much of a better looker).

Here are few images of new UI.

We have 4 cars for Mumbai usage as 2(city and i20) are with us, and 2(civic and polo) stay with my grandparents, the polo is our beater car, city is used by my dad and i20 for my mom and been taken out for smaller distances, we need an upgrade as this car might potentially replace the civic on the highways and will take most of the duties which is currently been done by my Honda city, as the car would now be given to me(shared with my mom), so with that being said, we are looking for an upgrade. Also about the Audi A4 Technology, I enquired about it to Audi Nashik and Mumbai, and we almost bought a white A4, but of the 2023 make, at 42.2 lakhs, and as much as I would've loved to buy one right now, we will also change another car in the next 1-2 years, so might as well not buy something of the luxury segment right now but rather wait for a year, and then buy it. Since my family is looking for an upgrade, they are strongly considering the MG Hector, which doesn't appeal to me due to the horror stories. I also fell in love with the VW Virtus after seeing one in the showroom as well as looking at my friends GT Plus Sport Edge Edition, I'm even shortlisting it and am leaning towards it heavily. A few of my friends have also told me to consider the XUV700, and I'm not going to lie, but I've fallen in love with the looks of the car since the time it was launched, although there have been certain issues with the car reported by users, I believe its only for the first batches, if I'm not wrong, so the final contenders are
-Volkswagen Virtus
-MG Hector
-Mahindra XUV700(somewhat)
Team-BHPians please give your opinions on the cars and recommend what's best.

Thank you. I have 2 questions:
1. Don't you think this bluish colour in UI is not going too well with red black theme of digital cluster?
2. Can we turn on/off lock unlock sound from infotainment system? I hate the horn sound when unlocking.

I tried 2-3 more scenarios where Maruti cars would start sounding their alarm :) But the Virtus didn't sound an alarm in any of those cases (Trying to pull open the door levers multiple times without the key in pocket or range, also tried out the scenario you suggested, and a few others as well)

So, now I'm curious how the VW Anti theft alarm works.

Hope some long term VW/Skoda owners can shed some light on it.

Since you've practically narrowed down your list to these 3 cars, I will list down my own opinions about them. (Note: My immediate vehicle is a VW Vento, and we have several VW/Skoda products in the family).

- With all due respect to the owners of the Hector, it is a straight no-go for me. Whether it be the quality of the car itself, the age of the car itself (been on sale as the Baojun 530 in other markets since 2018), or the complaints regarding suspension, fuel efficiency and the quality of drive of the car.

- Between the Virtus and XUV, you have to decide whether you want an SUV or a sedan. VW Service (touchwood) is usually good, especially their Sewri outlet. If you are in Pune, I'd highly recommend BU Bhandari Auto as well. The Virtus being a sedan will obviously offer a better driving experience compared to the XUV. It's pretty explosive even in its 1.0L form, and for all purposes, a size smaller than the XUV giving it an advantage in Mumbai's traffic. The XUV on the other hand will definitely give you more space, and a few more features and service centres. Now it's upto you and your family to decide on which one you want.

Went to the VW Dealership yesterday and convinced my dad to get a Virtus last night but I don't think he's gonna mellow down and get a Virtus because I got caught with the car today, so I think he’s going to go the Hector route and I don’t think my opinion will matter after today.

Hi Everyone. I own a 1 year 8 months old Virtus 1.0 and I drive close to 30 kms in Mumbai traffic everyday. Last week for 2 days, I saw a notification saying "12v battery discharged. Drive to charge" but it used to drop off by evening while returning from work.

But suddenly the car died on Saturday morning. I called the RSA and dropped the car air the service center. They called today saying the battery might have died! They'll confirm about the replacement by tomorrow. Wanted to check whether this is actually possible in a new car and what could be the reason for it? Thanks.

I too had this brake judder on highway speeds on then 12k kms run Virtus GT, and it was rectified by brake cleaning during annual service. I didn't observe it after that in the following long trip and seems to be running fine since.
This seems to be a generic problem across Slavia/Virtus and ideally must be rectified by the manufacturer, but they will silently do it for new cars & won't bother doing anything for us.

It only came down a little after brake cleaning in my case. I had also got the cooling channels of the discs flushed. It is a fundamental design flaw. That is how most OEMs operate. They will do something if enough people make noise or not at all in VAG's case.

Took my car for 15k kms service today, it came in just 6 months of ownership because of my love for this beautiful machine. I referred to this post and asked for software updates, Noida service centre guys informed that they are unaware of any such updates on infotainment system (latest version with them being 07.09 which they put). They also informed that most of these features seem to have unlocked from outside and dealers can't do this. They refused to put the GT Sport settings in GT Plus despite me insisting to do so. May be GT Sport software version is too new to have reached service centres.
