Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

I just found out that the rear left indicator of my car has stopped working.

My almost 15-year-old Wagon R has never had this problem and my 15-month-old Scorpio N has it. A bit disappointing.

The vehicle is full of niggles. Barring frequent infotainment system niggles, my right rear parking sensor has stopped working and mahindra needs a full day in order to check.

Never faced this issue in any of my previous vehicles. The Superb was 11 years old when I sold it and never have the sensors failed. They worked even when they got dislodged by a 2 wheeler impact.

I sometimes fear what kind of trials and tribulations I will have to face when it gets older.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Post Alternator-pulley replacement through Recall by M&M, the engine noise seems to have increased. Did anyone feel this?

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

So after close to 3 months, was able to take my Scorpio N Z8 S Petrol AT outside the city; to Lonavala for a (long) drive.

Few observations based on ownership till now

Cons
  • It’s a big car! Don’t get me wrong. What I mean is its not meant for you if you have a small family and your requirements are for city drive only. I still tend to pick up my Ford Figo for short city commutes, especially through tight traffic areas.
  • Body roll is there and there is no way of getting around it!
  • Fuel efficiency in traffic is barely around 6-7 KMPL.
  • While driving on Atal Setu, could feel air drag during the open stretch at about 100 KPH (when there are no barriers on either side). Some noise was also there inside the cabin, probably due to panel gaps (not sure). Was not confident in sharply changing lanes at that point.
  • I would say the audio quality is quite below average. Not an audiophile but my Ford Figo’s sound quality is better.
  • At my position, there is little space between seat and steering (horizontally) and have to be slightly careful while getting up, otherwise my thighs seem to rub the steering.
  • There is a lag between pressing the horn button and when it buzzes. Although it is very very minimal, but in the Figo it is instant!
Pros
  • I still cannot get over the looks. It really is a very good looking car.
Mahindra Scorpio-N Review-20240813_104642-1-2.jpg
  • Even the rear of the car has grown on me now!
Mahindra Scorpio-N Review-20240813_105534.jpg
  • The mStallion engine is really refined and adequately powered. I have to say on pushing the accelerator, the car just propels itself with you being thrown back on the seat!
  • No problems at all in overtakes, even on upward sloping roads!
  • The gear shifts are really smooth.
  • Ergonomics are broadly fine. I was very comfortable while driving. Arm rest is very useful too!
  • Lumbar support is also really good. I had developed severe back pain (as a result of a very turbulent flight and no warm up/ cool down one day while playing badminton) and it tends to reoccur albeit at less intensity sometime when I drive my Figo continuously/ play Badminton vigorously. However, never in this car and it is such a relief!
  • NVH inside the cabin is well managed.
  • Steering is light initially and slowly becomes more stable, as speed picks up. Maneuvering is super smooth!
  • Didn’t have to think twice before tackling the potholes. Occupants in the middle row complained of body roll only when going over potholes at very slow speed.
  • The ride quality is good. Infant was asleep practically the whole time, during long drive and return, in the second row comfortably and was not at all disturbed. Woke up only when the car was going very slow once over rough patches.
  • Side steps are a must. Good of Mahindra to have them installed by default. They look good too. Also they are installed such that they are minimally outside the vehicle and risk of grazing any nearby cars in traffic is not there. I have seen side steps protruding on the sides in many cars.
  • I like Adrenox. It has come in handy a couple of time times, although more of a fancy feature than actually useful. However, helps in keeping track of vehicle, locks, fuel etc. and I am planning to renew the subscription.
Fuss free experience till now. Did encounter a serious issue due to rat attack. But, service centre experience was good, and the issue was tackled very professionally and resolved within a reasonable time! Got ceramic coating done recently. Will update as time progresses!

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

This might an extremely stupid post but should I consider swapping my Scorpio N with a Thar 5D P 4x4 AT?

Family is saying no but I do want to check it out (at least till the test drives are available).
The feature list makes me want to cry. Mahindra did give us Scorpio N owners the short end of the stick.

I do love the refinement and the way mine handles but the features, the price and petrol 4x4 option does tempt me.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Mahindra has silently deleted many non-visible features from Scorpio-N and has kept the price unchanged even though new features like ventilated seats and Auto IVRM have been added. MLD earlier available in the 4WD models has been removed and replaced with Brake Locking Differential which is just a Traction Control feature and this price saved has been adjusted against the new Visible Luxury features.

From the available brochure on Mahindra website, it seems 4WD option is not available in Petrol 5 Door Thar. Mahindra did make a lot of money in 2022-23 during high demand of cars and short changed the Scorpio-N initial batch buyers. Thar 5 Door is fully loaded and it seems the top end will be priced a little lower than Top end Scorpio-N.

I am also tempted. But I think Scorpio N has been engineered better (as much as they could) compared to Thar Roxx. It was their make or break effort. Scorpio brand is more important to Mahindra than Thar brand as of now, it may change after 10 years. Remember the booking and delivery of Scorpio N was tightly monitored by the mothership. I also have a feeling that it was why it was called project Z101 during development.

Does Thar Roxx have double wishbone suspension? I haven't heard of it. If not, it means something very important even though it has many new electronically controlled tricks.

EDIT: Both Thar and Thar Roxx have front double wishbone suspension. Thar Roxx has Frequency Dependent Damping also.

I have the same worries and the same issues you mention. My rear right parking sensor went kaput recently and will need to be looked at during the next service.

Have driven many cars over the years from many different manufacturers, and continue to do so when I drive rental vehicles in the US.
All of them have delivered a flawless driving and accessory experience.
Indian manufacturers really need to up their game to become world class. Don’t know how Mahindra manages customer expectations in their export markets of Australia and South Africa.

I suggest you take the vehicle back to the service center and explain them the issue.

My vehicle (Petrol MT) also had a recall few months back but it didn't include Alternator-Pulley replacement, it had the software updates and the re-torqueing of the steering input shaft nut.

After this service action i started having vibration issues in the steering whenever i braked or i went over some rough patch none of these existed earlier.
My overall service experience at NBS Mahindra Goregaon has been a pretty average affair, this inspite of it being a company owned service center.

Fortunately my 1year service was due soon and having moved to Pune i happened to take my vehicle to the newly opened service center of Mahindra PPS Service, Hadapsar, within a short test drive itself the service advisor figured out the issue, apparently the bolt wasn't torqued properly infact after the service action NBS guys made it worst.

Now the vehicle drives as it used to before.

P.S : Pune guys should definitely try out this newly opened Mahindra PPS Service at Hadapsar, clean, spacious and a very pleasant service experience.

I would not do that. However many features Mahindra has loaded into the Thar Roxx, it is still a vehicle primarily designed for off road duties. The Thar (both 3 door and 5 door) have a bread box design, which has a very high drag coefficient of around 0.46. Even with the powerful mHawk engine in my Thar Diesel AT, I can feel how tough it is for a vehicle not designed aerodynamically to cruise at high speeds. It drinks a lot of fuel, feels out of its comfort zone and and is just not fun to drive at high speeds. So if you do a lot of long distance trips, even with the higher engine tune of the motors in the Thar Roxx, I would not recommend either of the Thars over ScorpioN.

Plus, as folks here have already pointed out, Thar Roxx does not come with the 4X4 petrol.

I would not recommend it.

Almost 18 months after I purchased my ScorpioN, am still dealing with this crap.
Do you want to take a chance on yet another new vehicle, which is likely to have a heap of new bugs of its own, not to mention the legacy issues carried over from reusing software?

Funny. I have the exact issue with the exact parking sensor (mine came up at 11500 km).

Apparently they want a full day for fault finding. I am sick and tired of service center visits and their slow work. Nothing ever happens in time.

Silently removing MLD in the top end 4x4 model is a shocking move.

Hope it can be retrofitted at M&M as an paid extra if customers demand it.

Thar Roxx petrol only comes with RWD , there is no 4x4 as of now.

Its sad for Scorpio N owners , my relative also rejected it 2 months ago due to its short feature list & bare-bones cabin & myself as well but mainly due to the vertical movement & nose dive. This new Thar will definitely cannibalise the sales of the Scorpio N.
