I faced these issues in my 5 month old Scorpio N D AT 2WD driven around 3600 km.

I was on my way to Sindhudurg via Anuskura ghat. After I descended from ghat section suddenly below 2 symbols appeared on the dashboard.

I parked the car at side of road and checked the meanings of these symbols.

1. The exclamation mark in circle meant malfunction in AT system
2. The tilted car in circle meant malfunction in Hill Hold Control system

Thanks to this post and replies I just shut down the engine and restarted it. And both the symbols disappeared. I waited for couple of min to see if they reappear and they didn't so drove off.

I then took a stop at Kudal for maybe 10 min and when I started the engine, all the symbols on dashboard lit up. I again restarted the engine and then MID as well as infotainment screen was just blank even the tachometer needle was at resting position. I revved the engine but still no movement of tachometer. I again restarted the engine and this time MID was started but it was showing 'Error' at km reading and HHC malfunction symbol was again lit up. I again restarted then engine and this time all went back to normal and I went on my way.

This issue of 'Error' at km reading and HHC symbol has occurred 2-3 times in next 1000 km running. And every time restarting the engine has resolved the issue. All this while there has been no mechanical issue and car runs just fine.

I did not take the vehicle to ASC as I was waiting for software update and hoping that if these are indeed bugs and might be resolved in the update.

One day I got the pop up on infotainment screen that update was available and I accepted it. The update process took nearly 40 min and the process involved lighting up all symbols on dashboard, screens getting blank, restarting screens multiple times, status bar getting stuck in same position as seen below making me wonder if something has gone wrong and what to do if it has. But thankfully after 40 min I got the message that update was successful.

After the update I have driven around 800 km but above mentioned issues have not reoccurred. I have another trip planned via Anuskura ghat will check if same issues reappear. Will take it to ASC this time if they do.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Hi All!

I would like to talk about a DPF regeneration encounter!

I drove around 1700KMs in around 36 hours Gurgaon to Gangtok in May, 2024!

On day 1, I drove for more than 1100KMs with more than 950 KMs on highways and expressways maintaining speed between 80-120kmph and spent a few hours resting in Muzaffarpur Bihar.
On day 2, I drove around 600 KMs. The first 400 KMs were on highways where work was in progress at most of the sections. Whenever I got good roads, I tried to maintain 80-90kmph.
In last 200 KMs, I maintained only 30-60 kmph (crowded and hilly roads) and that’s when the issue started!

I probably didn’t pay attention to the techo as I was enjoying the drive.

I think when I was 40-50KMs from Gangtok, it started getting dark! My car gave me DPF clog warning. I was surprised as I was driving the car at high speeds since last 35 hours for more than 1600KMs.

I didn’t take any risk and did manual regeneration on road side!

After that I spent 8-9 days in mountains in Sikkim and Nepal. And I was very thoughtful about the RPM, always kept an eye on the techo and maintained around 2000-2500 rotations. The issue never resurfaced after that, till date!

My learning:
1. Even if we are driving at low rpm for around 200KMs, we may see DPF issues!
2. Always be mindful of RPM, specially in mountains otherwise you may end up in similar or worse situations

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Mahindra is selling "Adventure" edition in South Africa with modified Steel Bumpers, Underbody Protection and 265/60 AT Tyres. Wish Indian customers also get the option to purchase these as accessories.

It's actually the transmission overheat warning symbol, it probably occurred due to driving in the ghats where the transmission is stuck in a particular gear for an extended period. I've experienced this a couple of times in Ladakh and other places, so did the other SN that was with me (so it's not a one off thing).

I recently got my ATF (automatic transmission fluid) changed at 50k km, where they drained about 2.5L of fluid. One of the mechanics was telling me that in the Thar, this fluid is about 5L. Not sure how factual this is but if it's true, it could be why the transmission in the SN tends to heat up when the going get tough.

If you do get the warning again in the future, park in a safe spot and wait for it to cool.

DPF came into picture to reduce pollution. But ironically, to ensure its smooth function, you need to consume more fuel
DPF clogging issue is going to be a chronic one. Instead of fighting it, it needs to be managed. Few things which we can do to ensure dpf stays healthy
1. Ocassionally rev the engine on a highway for about 30 min. Makers recommend around 80kmph for 20 min. Particularly when you make daily short trips only. That too in city traffic conditions.
2. Any leaks in air intake system may lead to dpf malfunction. Make sure those hoses and clamps are in good condition.
3. Engine oil plays a big role in dpf health. Ash content in engine oil can accelerate dpf blocking. So low ash oil must be used. Best is to stick to maker's recommendation.
And couple of more reasons..
I have made a short video on dpf issue which covers underlying causes and ways to manage dpf issues.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

I have a question for those who own Z4 4x4 Diesel Manual version. How does the ground clearance affects the vehicles performance on off road or bad roads? The GC of 187mm on paper is very low, had anyone faced issue of under-body scrapping or boulders hitting from below?

No sure if Mahindra still intentionally lowers the ground clearance for lower taxes, but right now the ground clearance is measured with the vehicle fully laden (permissible passengers and luggage), so it will be way less than unladen ground clearance. Also the lowest point of RWD, BoF vehicles is the rear differential. Unlike most FWD crossover with flat underbody.

I have Z8L 4x4, never faced any problem, issue or felt incapable due to GC. I got stuck in mud in Nepal, the bottom touched the ground and tyres were almost half deep but with some efforts in 4x4Low Mud mode, I managed to tackle the situation.
I ended up scratching all 4 alloys badly.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

So, in the past 10 months of ownership of my white Hornet(Scorpio-n Z2), I wanted to share my special findings. I would say these are kind of hidden or unknown features which most Scorpio-N owners might miss, so I am hoping this will be helpful.

All details of my ownership are here
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...nt-review.html (My Mahindra Scorpio-N Z2 Base Variant Review)

Mahindra Scorpio-N Review-screenshot-20241030-191217.jpg
  1. Safety features on ignition system
    • Engine will not start, if the car is in gear. It will start only if the car is in Neutral or clutch is pressed.
    • Key will not crank if the engine is already running.

  2. Bonnet open - automatic Hazard lights
    • As soon as you open the bonnet the hazard lights will come on automatically.
    • It helps in cases where we forget to switch it on, while stranded on highway or road.

  3. Operate power windows without key
    • The power windows work even after a few minutes, of taking the key out of the ignition lock cylinder.

  4. Intelligent car AC system
    • AC automatically comes on, while moving the thermostat to cold.
    • When defogger vent is switched, the air intake moves to outside air automatically.

  5. Child Safety - door, window, airbag
    • Child lock knob available on rear doors and boot door.
    • Child window lock available in Z2(base) model as well
    • If a child below 6 years sits in the front seat, please disable the passenger airbag.

  6. Auto electronics cut off on car lock
    • Internal and external lights go off after a few minutes of locking the car.
    • This save the car's battery from going dead.

  7. Third row fold - lock in place
    • There is a hook to hold the folded third row in place. Many Scorpio-N owners complain that the third row fold opens and falls on items kept in the boot.

Its difficult to explain in detail, so I have made a video for the same. Hope this is informative and helpful to not only Scorpio-N owners but also to every car owner keeping safety on top priority.

I think third row lock is not present in the initial batch of cars. It looks like it was added later based on received complaints.

Good point. My car's manufacturing month is Dec 2023. So its possible the cars manufactured before that, didn't have the row lock.

Hmm so the question is, did they first have the lock in place > then removed it in mid batches > and then added it back in latest batches

I stand corrected. It is indeed there in my car as well and I had not noticed it. May be because most of the time the third row is down in my case.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

After 2 years, during these Diwali holidays I tried to link my Alexa enabled Soundbar to Scorpio-N through the AdrenoX app. The connection got through and Alexa was able to tell the tyre pressure and Odometer reading.

However, then I tried to give engine start command and it didn’t get through. I am not sure whether Alexa kept trying to connect to the car but next morning the battery was found fully drained and I had to jump-start the car.
Learnt my lesson and have de-linked Alexa
