Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Today I went to the Mahindra showroom to check both Scorpio-n and XUV700. Apart from other observations which has been discussed in this forum and YouTube videos, I noticed that the driver seat of Scorpio-n is smaller then my i20 elite front seat. Do other owners think same or am I judging it wrong. Do let me know.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Reporting a tyre issue on my ScorpN Z8L (stock MRF Wanderers 155/60 R18 AS). On a trip to Himachal last week, noticed three cracks/gashes on the sidewalls of the front left tyre (clearly visible in the attached pic). The car has run around 48k kms, with maybe 5-6k of those in rather sub-optimal terrain, so I'm not discounting the age factor, but since I hadn't noticed the cracks during the last visual inspection conducted at the bi-annual service done about 3 weeks ago, was a bit surprised.

An earlier (mild) encounter with a jagged rock during a tricky maneuver had bitten off a chunk from the sidewall of one other wheel a few months ago, so I'm wondering if this is a production or design flaw with the MRF sidewalls.

Anyway, replaced the damaged wheel with a fresh Apollo Apterra the very next day since there was a smattering of snow on the road. Returned home to Delhi and got the other 4 Wanderers replaced with Yoko Geolandar All-Terrains (the Apterra became the spare). Bought the rubbers from TyresNmore.com and was pleasantly surprised by their doorstep service. The price was marginally lower than a couple of tyre shops in the vicinity too.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

To respond (as an Apollo tyre dealer)

1. It's 255,not 155 section.
2. Apollo AT2 are a great fit (despite the increase to 265, the tyre dia is now 30.5 inches from 30 inches stock. In comparison the thar AT swap is 31 inches which is bad for the fender liner.)
3. No comment on sidewall damage, as I have insufficient info.
4. OE tyres are generally the cheapest tyre they can fit to a car. Don't use them as the index. The AT2 will serve you better.

P. S. I have a Z8 4x4 with the AT2s aforementioned AT2s.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Hello Everyone,
Trust me, Scorpio N head lights are nothing to compliant about. It is very good in the city and in the highways, performs well up until the 80 to 100 KMPH in a well-marked highway. Here comes the variables – Speeds more the 100 KMPH, not well marked roads, bad weather – rains & foggy weather. I struggle to manage with even one of these variables and ironically, I had to make a night drive in late December with 2 of these variables– Rains and Unmarked roads. It was really scary indeed and I somehow managed to complete the drive with a lot of fear and anxiety. Ever since then, I started to explore options for improving the night drive visibility.

I had 3 main requirements:
1. Not to touch the existing setup in the name of upgrade.
2. No cutting / butchering the existing wiring or the bumper.
3. Decent highway performance.

Explored multiple options where slim lights fitted in between the grill slots (EV 600) but even here, we have to cut open one of the grill bars plus drilling holes to hold the light setup. Then explored light bars that can be filled above the number plate, but it was too after market-ish. Finally came across this new lower grill which can accommodate 3 inch fog lamps and it is a direct replacement to the stock grill. Now with the direction to move ahead, started scouting for the proper 3 inch fog lamps that would fit my expectations and after much deliberations, finalized HyperDrive 3 inch, dual laser projector LED fog lamps. This is 170W and produces 17000 Lumens combined. I have no way to measure these claims but all I can say is that the output is way better than stock. Found a good mechanic through recommendation of my friends and got these bad boys installed a month back. Really satisfied with the output and let the pictures do the talking now. Thanks for the read.

What is the spec of the new Yoko Geolandar AT? Same 255/60/R18? How much did you pay for the Yokos? How easy was the installation (was it doorstep)? Have they done WA & WB at doorstep? And finally, how easy is it to fit the TPMS sensors to the new tires?

01. Yes, they were the same - 255/60/R18. (My bad - had made a typo in the original post).
02. Cost - 63,156 for set of 4 (plus around 1.4k additional discount for the 4 old rubbers). That works out to around 15,450 per tyre. A local dealer in Noida was quoting 16.3k.
03. Doorstep installation from their own mobile unit (see attached pic). Was completed in about 40 minutes. Easy as pie. The technicians were competent and courteous.
04. They had a machine for balancing, and weights were added to all four rims after installation of the rubbers. Alignment was not done - will have to get it done externally.
05. Refitment of TPMS was not needed on the new rubbers. I think the sensors are connected to the rim. The dash display showed the correct pressure as soon as all four wheels were fitted back. That said, I might have to recalibrate the TPMS system (Tyretronics Manual Learning), as mentioned in the owner's manual.

I have faced the same problem too, twice. The first time I thought that I was because of a small accident (The car had climbed over a curb) the rear right tire deflated instantly and we switched to the spare Apollo tire. I got it replaced with another MRF WANDERER. About a month ago I noticed that the front left tire had deflated, this kept happening for ~3 weeks and I got the tire checked at a local puncture shop, there was a crack on the inner sidewall. Got the spare installed and went to Harbir Mahindra, Chandigarh and told them the problem, they told us that it may be covered under MRF waranty and told us to go to the MRF vendor ESS DEE. TYRE CARE. So on 2nd March I went there, they separated the tire from the rim and sent the tire for claim, they told me that they would reach back by a week, but they haven't called me back yet

1. Do these come in yellow? Not very fond of white since I have heard it is of no use in fog etc. Pls correct if I am wrong.
2. Brand, model and price?
3. Anyone know where can I get these installed in Hyderabad or a trusted shop which won't cut open the number etc?

Hi Devesh,

2. HyperDrive 3 inch, dual laser projector LED fog lamps - 9k rs.
3. Unfortunately I do not have any contact in Bangalore.

Got it. Just checked it out on The Light Powerhouse's website for 8k. There is a tri-colour version available too. However, did you buy suzuki bracket or toyota bracket ones?

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

White light should go under a ban, it almost gets the other car’s driver blinded.
And going by the ever increasing craze for suvs, the issue gets even worse!

Precisely my pain, too. Though I own a ScorpioN, however, I would prefer shifting back to yellow lights so as not to cause this nuisance to others on the road.

Also, read somewhere how white LEDs and lights are killing us and suppressing certain hormones. Since then have changed most of the lights in my house to warm yellow.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Review

Fantastic, I've been eyeing this grill replacement.

1. I already swapped out the Z8 headlights with Z6 and aftermarket LEDs but they tend to flicker so I may go back to the Z8 headlights. Have been awaiting a decent grill option. Saw the grill replacement online for 3.2k. What did you pay for the grill?

2. Do the LEDs shake when you drive?

Nice catch go for it. I did not buy from this site and hence i never had to select which bracket, but the installer managed to fit the lights perfectly in the grill.

As mentioned this lights are only for highway drives which are predominantly 4 lane roads with center median. Fog lights are strictly off within city.

1. I bought the grill for 4k. Quality is decent.

2. No it does not. It is firmly installed like a OEM fitment.
