Re: Maruti Jimny Review

The floor storage tray definitely interferes with the lever at 4L. Even though the tray in my car is different there is interference (its the transfer lever extender in my case that hits the tray). What I did was I removed the double side tape that is used to affix the tray. This way the tray is free to move around a bit. When 4L is engaged it moves up and it falls back into place when the lever is out of 4L. If the tray is fixed tightly, then 4L engaging is tough.

Hey, in AT shifter illumination, is everything concealed. I mean no wires remain visible anywhere.

+1.

I have the harder plastic tray sourced from Harman Impex. Though 4L shows signs of engaging (solid green 4WD indicator in console + TC off), it's obvious when you give the shifter a shake that 4L is not properly engaged. The tray is definitely in the way.

Yup, fully concealed, it has a tap to the cigarette lighter wiring and is an easy DIY.

Can you elaborate on that? I just haven't heard anything about it.

It will be interesting to know if Maruti were take back the discounts once and then have them appear for a short window pre Diwali or around December 2024. I guess many NCR guys might pick these up even as a primary vehicle.

And what if Maruti brings a 4x2 variant? I doubt that would be happening. But I think Maruti isn't throwing in the towel, specially as their lines would still be chugging out some international variants.

Hey, I'm unable to DM; I'm sorry it was sold 2 days back.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Small update to note the daily driving and ownership experience :

I am tired of random people asking the same question over and over again. "Why did you not buy a Thar". I really don't understand the resistance people have towards the Jimny. Why ? People who don't even own cars have opinions.

Nevermind. I just brush off those comments with silence. The barrage of unparliamentary words in my mind stays there.

Off late the car is surpassing my expectations in the mileage department. I drive very cautiously and touchwood the figures never fall below 15 kmpl. Even within the city. I drive sedately at 50-60 kmph and maintain RPMs below 2000. In my last longish trip of 140 kilometers; I saw 21 kmpl on the MID.

The only struggle I faced was while purchasing a cover for the car. I had to return two covers purchased from Amazon. None of them fit.
So I went ahead and got the cover for Bolero Neo and that covered the whole car perfectly. A slight modification is necessary for making a pouch for the antenna.

I am enjoying every minute with my Jimny. The unholy grin on my face is enough to shut naysayers up !

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

It seems the jimny discounts have increased from 2.3 lakh to 2.75 lakh, but, the ex. showroom has also increased. I just received a quote from Nexa (Srinagar) and he has put in the new Ex. Showroom price. So all those on the fence can happily purchase jimny in the next year. Happy new year to Jimny community in advance.

Is it manual or AT? Even for manual, these figures are amazing.

It's a manual going from the MID of the car. And yes, it's an amazing fuel efficiency that's difficult to achieve by most of us.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

May be off topic - but anyone selling his Alpha AT in NCR - please connect with me.

I am highly inclined for Jimny - however cant put money on fresh car as usage will be very low. TIA

It is a Manual Alpha. I may have learnt the trick after few trials.

If you follow the gear shift indicator exactly as the car demands then such mileage is easily achievable.

Jinmy asks for gear up-shifts surprisingly at very low speeds. You will find yourself at 4th or 5th gear at 40 kms. Just do what the car asks and you will see excellent mileage.

I have tried the cruise control feature as well. I set the speed at 55 kms and kept the RPM needle between 1500 and 2000. Within 15 minutes of driving the average was 19.3 kmpl. Even if I deduct 2.5 kmpl as overage; the result is quite respectable.

If you see the attached picture, you will get an idea. The lowest mileage was when I let the car idle for 20+ mins while I tested the AC and the audio.

I got my Manual Alpha at 13.65 inclusive of everything last October. Your insurance figure is absurdly high. Avoid CCP. You can buy it later if needed.

Bargain hard. I did not pay a single paisa for the plastic tid-bits. Paid only for the seat covers. Haggled with the dealer for discounts on all possible areas. Be brutally shameless for once.

When I drive my Jimny Zeta MT in 4th and 5th gears and accelerate, I hear a faint rattling noise as if something underneath is loose or perhaps like a broken bearing. It's continuously audible for as long as I press the accelerator and I don't lug the engine. It is more clearly heard if I roll down my window and drive next to a wall or tall divider that can reflect the noise to me. This sound is not heard in the first three gears even if I lug the engine. It is also distinct from the resonance that can be heard while lugging, which is something I always try to avoid.

I took my car to Motorcraft, Sector 57, Noida. They said that they will need to compare with another manual Jimny but hardly any come in for service. I asked them to check whatever oil levels they can so they checked the front and rear differentials and the transfer case. Oil level was up to spec. There is another Nexa service centre in sector 57 and they said it is normal for the MT variant. Went to Fairdeal in sector 5 and they too said it is normal. They said it is from the intermediate shaft, the one between the gearbox and T-case.

Has anyone else experienced this noise?

Hello,

I drive an Alpha MT as well that i had got home in January this year.

From the day i have picked up my car, there is a slight rattle/metal clanging sound when in 4th and 5th gear from 60kmph and it continues till 90kmph. The sound dies down after that or may be the wind noise thereafter drowns it.

While searching for the issue online on various forums, I came across this video which seems to be pointing to the same noise that i am witnessing.

It is this sound and notice the speeds also. Same like I mentioned and it drowns out at 90. It's an AT in the video though.

I will try to get a video of my car as well but I need to leave the city limits and find an open stretch to replicate the sound. Will try doing that soon.

I haven’t reported this to the service centre yet for the fear of them experimenting with the car with no definite diagnoses.

@Darth Sid : could you trace the sound in your car?

Regards

I installed that hard plastic tray very recently and didn't have to engage 4L after that. Tomorrow will try to engage 4L and see what happens!
