Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Maruti issues recall for the Jimny to replace Kingpin assembly.
Have noticed the issue in my friend's Jimny where steering would vibrate on high speed braking. Had informed during first service, they said might be due to new brake shoes which will get fixed with brake wear.

Hi quickdraw - Please, can you share more about the Avo world turbo kit.

How is your friend's experience.

What are the pro's and con's.

I'm trying to understand how well the highway driving is improved by this.

And also, what are the trade-offs with installing this.

If this has been posted elsewhere, kindly redirect.

Can you please tell from where you arranged these rivets. What is the dimension of the rivet?
How much play has been kept.

Hey I've not put up the review anywhere yet. Have personally driven the car now over 1000km so feel confident to add my thoughts on how it feels like. The car has now covered almost 3-4 North to South trips and ODO stands at >45,000 which is a testament to the reliability of the build. There were no issues at all with the engine/turbo.

Pros:
  • The car is now much more eager to drive and accelerates with decent momentum. Feels peppy to drive from the earlier lethargic feeling
FE has improved and he consistently gets 11+ while mine stays at 9.3-9.9.
  • The main thing is it makes the car much less susceptible to stuttering in gear, basically you can change gets lesser and it will always cleanly pick up
  • The above was experienced extensively in the city, highway and mountain roads and is a huge benefit in all situations since you don't have to change gears often.

Cons:
  • I feel that the car is now eating up front pads at a much higher rate
  • There is some vagueness in very low rpm range (<2000)
  • I'm not too happy with the air filter position right in front, snorkel or another position is highly recommend if you want to go water wading
  • I don't have experience with this in AT gearbox so don't know how it feels

If your main plan is highway driving it will benefit in making overtaking easy and cruising much more effortless feeling. When I compare my car to his at highway speeds his feels bit more relaxed while driving while I always have a feeling that I'm wringing the neck of my engine. I will definitely recommend it if you do travel a lot.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

First service update :

Took my month old Jimny for the first service today. Being a Sunday; I wanted to make the best use of the wintery morning. I had booked my slot over phone couple of days ago.The service centre rep rang up once again to remind me.

The check-in process was very casual. The service centre looked like an airplane hangar. The first free service isn't taken very seriously there. They know it's all work and no pay. So they hurriedly took the car for washing first.

I was surprised by the sincerity of the guy who washed the car. He was too happy to see the Jimny. The friendly guy said that he was bored to death by washing Altos and Omnis all day. So my car received his complete attention. Floor mats and interiors were cleaned thoroughly.

The only meaningful service done was to top up all the fluids and check the engine oil level. Coolant and washer fluid needed top up. They added a sachet of windshield wash concentrate to the tank and kept three other sachets in the car. Sneakily they billed me for those sachets. Rs. 68/- was spent. I wonder how desperate are they to make a sale. No matter how trivial.

However, my major concern was the rattling noise that was coming from the driver side door. The window glass made a rattling sound while driving when rolled halfway down. I believe most of the Jimnys have this issue.
The technician tried his best to sort the issue. But he failed. He wasn’t able to pry open the door panel. I did not allow him to apply brute force. It is pretty evident that Maruti technicians are not trained at all to work on Jimnys. Cannot blame them either. My city has only 4 Jimnys on road including mine.

All in all the experience was just ok. The whole process did not take more than an hour and a half.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Did a test drive of Jimny AT recently and found it to be good for my usage. I like the suspension, it just glides over bad roads which is a boon for my bad lower back. Built seems to be robust and will last long. I realized this car can't go fast and has to be driven with a laid back approach and one will be happy. The breaks are PATHETIC and need to be upgraded. Overall it is a great any-where go to vehicle and I have no hesitation in making it my only car.

I negotiated with NEXA and last price offered was 14.00 Lakh on road. Though I booked the vehicle, I have explicitly told them that things can be taken forward only if they can bring the price down to 13.6 Lakh. Let us hope they blink.

Hi, would you mind to provide the break up of your present offer of 14 L OTR for Alpha Automatic? The ex showroom price of Alpha Automatic is Rs 14.79 L. Where exactly is that huge discount coming from? A break up of the price is highly appreciated.

Hey, I didn't get a quote as such. But we agreed on the following:

Ex showroom - 14,79,340
Discount - 230000
-----------------------------
Total - 1249340
RTO - 9% 112406
Insurance - 33000
TCS - 14793

The main point is offering discount on the Ex. Showroom price which results in less RTO charges. I am not sure whether that can be done.

I don't understand this. I have inquired in Karnataka and Goa. The RTO tax is on the Ex-showroom price of the car before discount..I.e Rs 14.79 L. So, the Road tax remains constant irrespective of the Maruti and/or dealer discount.

So essentially the discount is available as - Maruti company discount, Maruti Finance discount, Cash discount by dealer, discount on insurance, accessories and warranty, again at the discretion of dealers

The constant being the TCS & Road tax. It's fixed at the state percentage.

It's strange that each state follows a different rule. Your state RTO calculates road tax on the Invoiced value (ex-showroom price minus discounts) of the car and not ex-showroom price of the car. However good for you as Road tax saving appears substantial

It seems it may be possible at the dealer level as my contact in NEXA was telling me he will talk to "Sir" to calculate RTO charges on discounted price. I guess there might be some loophole somewhere which they are exploiting and they might have done it for other customers as well otherwise this discussion wouldn't come up.

So, if possible push your NEXA dealer for the same and tell him if other NEXA dealers can do it, he can do the same. ATB

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Got a few accessories for my Jimny from Japan courtesy of a friend who carried them from Tokyo.
1. Handrest

Maruti Jimny Review-img_0923.jpeg
Maruti Jimny Review-img_0924.jpeg
Maruti Jimny Review-img_0927.jpeg

The fit is snug, no creaks or noises. But the bottle holders can now hold only 600ml bottles. The stock holders used to fit in 1L ones.

2. Console Organiser

3. Covers for exposed defogger wire

All three items costed total 5K INR in the Black Friday sale on Amazon Japan.

Same thing. I was told that the RTO has the ex- showroom price from the Company as a constant value in the system. And the road tax would remain same irrespective of any discounts. Don’t know how states are bypassing the system. I read somewhere on teambhp that a person had to pay the additional road tax 3-4 years after purchase when he went to remove the hypothecation.
