Hi, the clutch weight and travel felt average to me, not bothersome. Sadly no dead pedal.

Why did you guys change the colour from Kinetic Yellow to PAW and GG? KYellow looks unique.

I booked on the launch day afternoon a PAW AlphaAT, Jan 12th got the booklet, went into the system on 13th. Buying later has its advantages, by then showroom will have their own demo vehicles so customer Jimnys wont go on display, and then as novelty fades people will stop laying their hands on Jimnys and cusomer will get a fresh piece. Unlike how its for the early adopters in their respective regions.

In June after the price launch I made another booking for a NBlue Jimny with another Nexa due to confusion on choosing the colour. Executive of the other NEXA called me this morning saying that NBlue vehicle is now being dispatched, i requested him to cancel and I have to write a cancellation letter.

I decided I didn't want that much attention. A lot of attractive women (and men) would look into a KY Jimny with high expectations and be totally devastated by what they see

Jokes apart, decided that KY was too loud for my taste and went with GG. Now that my Pajero is also sold I am relegated to using the tvs iqube for my commutes. On weekends I beg for a seat in any of the vehicles that go for the OTRs so I get to do something off road until my own Jimny arrives.

Same reason for me to change the Colour from KY to PAW. Kinetic Yellow parked in Gurgaon open space near office unattended for more than 9 hours will definitely become an attractive toy for making insta reels, people will climb on the bonnet hood, the roof, make beautiful hand sketches and deliberately try to instigate on road if I am driving peacefully. Moreover, my Mrs. overheard people commenting that KY is a "girlie" during the display events. Though it was a joint decision initially, she opposed KY strongly when I had to confirm the colour and variant after price release!

I have planned body stickers for the PAW Jimny. Otherwise it looks like an ambulance.

The Gurgaon dealers are trying to push demo units or abused units. Hence thorough PDI checking is a must. Also, they tricked me twice saying the unit is ready, please visit and decide. The units were either used demo units or allotted to someone.

[Went down and checked the radial cups and differential housing. Those lowest points definitely touched the ground. Vehicle body was polished. But they forgot to touch up the lowest points of underbody. Probably dealership guys didn't think an office goer in formals will get dirty to check out rubbed underbody touch points.]

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

We finally got delivery of our Jimny in Sizzling Red / Dual Tone Alpha AT on 28th June
Maruti Jimny Review-dnqe0057.jpg

I had booked an Alpha AT Granite Grey & Blueish Black as backup on 13th Jan with Rohan Nexa in Dehradun. The media drives in Dehradun allowed a glimpse of almost all colours. I decided against Granite Grey as it was too dull & found Blueish Black to be a dust Magnet. The family agreed on either the Kinetic Yellow Dual Tone or the Sizzling Red Dual Tone. I changed the colour to Sizzling Red Dual Tone after the price reveal & my dealer informed me that my booking was 1st on the list for Sizzling Red Dual Tone Alpha AT.

I kept on checking with the dealer & finally, the dealer called on 25th June and provided an update that my Jimny was on the way & I could check it out in the yard the next day, 26th June. I visited the dealer's stockyard, and there she was

I took some pics along with my EcoSport

I did the PDI & went back to the showroom, completed all the formalities, transferred the funds, and chose a number. All RTO requirements were processed. The dealer called in the evening and said the number should be available by Tuesday evening on the 27th. I decided to take delivery on the 28th June Wednesday morning. I reached the showroom around 11:30 AM & by 1:30 PM, I had taken delivery.

The dealer had just 4-5 accessories in stock, so we bought the boot mat, seat covers and door rain visors. We have a lot of modifications in mind and will get them as soon as they become available locally. It's too costly to import them.

We went directly to the tyre dealer and upgraded the tyres to Yoko Geolander AT 215/75 R15. The dealer just had 4 in stock, so we will get the spare upgraded later this week.

W went to the temple, filled the petrol tank & then got a Paytm FasTag. On 29th June, the Jimny took a 4-day drive from Dehradun to Jodhpur. Some pics on the Delhi-Meerut expressway

On the return journey, we stopped at Jaipur for the day. The next day we took the Jimny for its 1st service, which took just 2 hours. Since it was raining, I didn't click any more pics. On the journey back to Dehradun, we stopped in Gurugram for the night & returned to Dehradun yesterday. Got a mileage of 14 km/l.

We got it cleaned in the morning as it desperately needed one.
Maruti Jimny Review-img_9754.jpg

After the price announcement, I had second thoughts. However, my heart was set. Coming from the EcoSport (10 years, 130K), it was a different experience. The Jimny is not eager to sprint & takes time to build speed. The OD on/off switch is useful on highways while overtaking, but we didn't exceed 90 kmph during the complete journey, except on the Meerut-Delhi expressway (95kmph) & WPL till Manesar exit (110kmph).

On the small hill section outside the Dehradun-Mohund route, the OD was off, and when we needed to overtake, we switched to 2 & back to D. I will share more details once I start going to Tehri. It is strictly a second car & should not be considered a primary buy. The suspension is top-notch, and I found handling okay as the EcoSport has spoiled me It is strictly a four-seater & with two adults in front and two kids in the back. My daughter, who was in the rear seat during the Jodhpur trip, mentioned that Jimny is not as comfortable as EcoSport.

Overall thoughts - It has some shortcomings, however, I knew them before making the buying decision & I am in love with it .

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I was luckly to get Jimny AT from RBTS Chandigarh for my Leh, Hanle trip.

Below is the itinerary we followed.

Maruti Jimny Review-ladakh2023.png

What I liked
  • Jimny is more comfortable in highways than Thar. Highway cruising at 70-90KM feels relaxing and more settled than Thar.
  • Easy to maneuver in city and some narrrow roads of Ladakh.
  • More practical with 4 doors and bigger boot than Thar
  • Overall got 12.6 kmpl for the entire trip of 2300KM
  • Interiors even though its basic feels good quality and rugged.
  • Based on some of the off-roading done from my previous trip Zanskar (Thar P AT) and Spiti (Thar P AT), Jimny feels as good and capable off-roader.

What I don't like
  • Jimny is underpowered and very much noticeable while crossing passes like Poti La (18,124ft) , Tanglang La (17,480ft). Small uphill also, it shifts to 2nd gear and starts whining.
  • Overpriced for a size of WagonR and engine of Brezza. 18.6L OTR Bangalore is not worth it after spending closely 12 days with Jimny.
  • Missing basic features like bottle holders in doors (not even in front) , driver seat height added inconvenience in our long trip.
  • I was not able to find perfect driving position and my left knee was rubbing against centre console.
  • 40L fuel tank capacity is too low and was getting ~350KM range + reserve. Thar gets 57L and has better range.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

In one of the Jaideep Chahal videos he mentioned a range of bolt on turbo kits available for the 3 door internationally. I expect these to be available here as well sooner than later. Question for the experts: Will the 4 speed gearbox be able to handle an after market turbo? What is the max torque and power it can handle? I assume this is not an issue for the MT.

The reputed aftermarket turbo kits come with additional transmission oil cooler as well as engine oil cooler, to enable the powertrain to cope up without overheating. The good thing about Jimny is that it is a global product that has been on sale in developed markets for a while. The range of high quality aftermarket accessories and mods is huge, and the ecosystem is well developed. If you are willing to spend the money, then sky is the limit. Something on the lines of this…

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

For Jimny tidbits look east, not west. If you buy from west (jimnystyle or similar) you get well traveled parts which originated in the east then traveled to the west and then halfway back east to India. Not applicable for parts of european origin but they are a minority.

ReddyG's turbo kit must be a good coz its ReddyG. But there are other options also, some cheaper but as good and some are to be avoided.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I have booked Jimny Alpha MT Red DT on 13th Jan, since the price reveal, I have been pursuing with dealership regarding delivery time but never got any concrete reply but today after writing email to maruti 3rd time, the dealership quoted an absurd waiting time of 6 months!!

A few posts above someone wrote he has been quoted a waiting period of 7-8 months for fresh booking and here they are quoting me a waiting period of 6 months for a booking done on 13th January, is there anything I can do? Any help is appreciated. Maruti Jimny Review-img_20230705_204707.jpg

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Press both knobs on the speedo console for a few seconds and it will take one into settings. Then use the RHS knob to select options. Three settings I found useful are:-

1) IS/Auto start-stop settings. Selecting comfort has prevented random engine offs at signals etc. It was a nuisance.

2) Door auto lock/unlock settings. Door lock/unlock is synced to speed by default; one can turn it off, or sync to gear shift (don't know if it works for MT) which if selected will lock the door once stick moves out of P and unlocks the door when stick moves back into P.

3) Alarm. Door lock/unlock alarm. Turned it off.

I wish there was a 4Lo symbol on the dash when its selected. There is none. When 4Lo is selected traction control warning comes on the dash.

Only thing I'd want from this are the wheels. But in MattGrey and 0 offset.

Quick question: Folks who have installed the door visor accessory that goes over the windows. What has the impact been like? Wind noise? Did it serve the purpose you got it for?
