Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Why is the economy figure so dismal? Doesn't the Jimny's weight help at all? It looks so small, I fail to understand why 10-11 is considered normal.

How much should one expect from a 1.5L NA motor with 4 speed AT in the mountains?, If 10.6kmpl isn't enough then how much?
On the highways, it easily goes up to 14-15kmpl. For a brick-shaped vehicle, that is more than enough.
And you seem to have forgotten FE figures from a Gypsy MT that was lighter than the Jimny.

I don't know. I have been out of cars literally and figuratively for too long now.

How much are the international 3 door versions achieving? I guess the engines are different.

Same engines and similar figures under similar conditions.
In fact they drop a lot lower since most people have additions here and so even use them to tow small trailers.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Does anyone know where we can find the Jimny 5 door user manual? Apparently, the paper back books aren’t available yet. I’m a great fan of these and end up reading every page.

Is there an online version available? If so, could someone please help point me to that link? Thanks.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hello members,
This is my first post on team-bhp. I am from Pune and have been reading team-bhp posts for quite a while.

Today I got the delivery of Jimny Alpha AT in Pune. Went straight to change the tyres and fitted Goodyear Silenttrac AT 215/75/R15. I chose these ones because I was told they offer good balance between on and off-road performance. Since my targeted usage of Jimny is on the broken tarmac roads (pothole ridden) in remote Sahyadri mountains nearby (Western Ghats in MH), I thought I would need a decent on-road performer tyre as well. I hope I have made a decent choice.

I had a question to serious off-roaders. What tyre pressures would be recommended for these set of tyres while on off-road trail say mud/rocky road during monsoons? What would be recommended pressures on road? I asked this question in tyre shop too, but he did not have a convincing answer. Thanks for your inputs and I really appreciate them.

Also do we have any Jimny/Thar owners from Pune who go to off-roading regularly? Would love to connect with them.

Anand

Not sure if this is true for new age cars.

And it is carrying a 4x4 transmission which does zap energy even in 2W drive no matter what.

Road - you keep close to stock + or - 2 PSI based on how the ride comfort is.

For trails you can drop safely to 18-20 PSI.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I modified some off the shelf seat covers to fit the back seat today and found a few things worth sharing.

1. The paint does not run all way inside the cabin mostly all visible areas have been covered, I suppose.

2. Not sure what the intended use is for the threaded holes marked in red circles. They take either a m6 or m8 bolt according to my guesstimate.

3. The seat maybe altered in a way where some foam could be added for some extra under thigh support. I am contemplating this. But this will require new or altered seat covers. It will although reduce the space for ingress and egress.

An unrelated but important question for the members:

1. It’s been close to 15 days and the dealer is yet to issue me a receipt/policy for the MCP plan I’ve bought for Rs 8100. I’ve been getting the run around on this and today was told by the SA that none of the Jimmy’s have been issued an MCP and there’s some issue at the “back end”. What can I do here? The ones who may have bought this with their Jimny, could you please confirm if you may have received your MCP registration?

2. Since there’s still time for my permanent registration to come through, I was trying to log in to Maruti Rewards app using my VIN but couldn’t. Even for this I’ve been getting the run around where Maruti customer support is delegating the resolution to the dealer. Slowly, the whole buying experience is turning a bit sour.

Thank you.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Happened to stumble upon a video that presents insightful perspectives on the advantages and disadvantages of the Jimny. Here it is:

Keep it!
I am neither a SUV guy, nor does my usage require an off-roader but there is something about the way Jimny carries itself which has me hooked and the reason you mentioned.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I am getting annoyed niggle at the way the engine auto stop/start works in AT. Each time I stop and turn off Jimny, it cycles through an auto start stop.

Here is what I do... Bring the vehicle to stop in D and the auto stop kicks in, then change from D to P and immediately the engine starts, only to get shut off when I click the Start/Stop button. I tried changing the drive to 'Comfort' from 'Economy' hoping it would reduce the Start/Stop stuff but it does not. Also, there is no button to switch off Auto S/S. I tried to stop the vehicle in Neutral but then the ignitiion remains in ACC mode and have to cycle through to shut it down. I don't mind the start/stop but it seems useless to have it when I am stopping the vehicle.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

The first service/inspection will be due soon. As a practice, I have always got the oil changed during the first service even though it's not mandated. The recommended oil grade is 0W-16. Since the peak summers are over, I am not concerned about the grade for this service. However, just out of curiosity, is this grade appropriate for our climate? Particularly, during the harsh summers?

Similar experience:

I am yet to receive the extended warranty and have been told the reason is a technical issue at Maruti's end. They have assured me that the MCP (service package) is updated in the system, and all service centres should be able to access it.

Maruti rewards app hasn't worked for me too, however, I received an IVR call from Maruti for booking the first service and it announced some loyalty/reward points.

The language in the user manual is quite convoluted, however, from what I have understood, I think it's supposed to work in the way you have mentioned.

The first thing I do after starting the car is turn the Auto Start-Stop system off. Wish there was a way to keep it off by default. The feeling of the engine shutting down when I don't intend to is quite unsettling.

Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated. If you don't mind sharing, what did you pay for MCP. They just asked me to pay Rs 8800 (typed 8100 by mistake) for 2yr/20000 Kms. Now that I've been researching, it would have been better if they would have mentioned other options that were available.

And yup I got an IVR call too; I said NO to all the prompts and still the system booked me in for a service appointment.
