I think you did not read my entire post. I did not question the utility of ADAS, but rather raising my suspicion about how TAMO has implemented it. Recently, during one of my longer highway ACC run, the engine RPM raised on its own to 4000 thereabouts on its own, throwing a racket, and scaring all fellow passengers inside the car. I had to reset ACC, pull the car to a side to pacify the engine. Did not use ACC for the rest of my journey.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Hey guys.
I'm looking for some reliable advice on taking care of my new car. I am looking for recommendations on things like best method for car washing, recommended products for interior and exterior cleaning. As of now, I have purchased the 3M dashboard dresser which helps me clean the black plastic trims on interior and exterior. I am thinking of buying the 3M foaming interior cleaner as well.
I tried searching for a guide but did not find anything.
Thanks in advance

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Hello Everyone,

As some of you know I was searching for a Dashcam for my Safari so zero-ed in on the 70Mai pro plus A500s dual channel dashcam after reading thru reviews and other suggestions.

Dashcam was delivered from Amazon on 1st Oct and did some initial check at home by connecting the dashcam to laptops USB port and it was working fine - both front and rear dashcam. Downloaded the 70Mai app and it seems to be working fine too. Bought 128GB Samsung EVO memory card. yet to purchase the CP filter for front dashcam.

Finally got time this weekend to fit it in the Safari as a DIY project. Took approx. 2hrs to fix the dashcam with all the wiring and connections.

1. Didnt hardwired the dashcam - power is via USB post on 3rd row.

2. Couldn't open the A-pillar cover (too tight and feared i will break it) to route the wire behind the airbag so went over it.

Rest of the connection details are in the attached pics. Some sample front and rear dashcam pics are also attached. Morning 10AM and evening 5PM pics sample.

Hope this helps other fellow owners.

Cheers !!!

The only changes I have noticed in the last 02 weeks after the latest Aug SW update are as follows.

1) louder notifications (ADAS and others)
2) new notification that alerts if head lights are not turned off before one disembarks from the car
3) have not seen any malfunction alerts yet , e.g., Memory seat, TPMS etc.

But my driving is limited. Other owners may chime in.

Thanks for your reply.
I have the 31st July update

1. That's annoying. They were already very loud before
2. It's already there in the July update
3. That's nice. I have had these errors maybe once in my 1 month of ownership.

Any Idea about android Auto fix? That is the only annoyance that I have till now.

Isnt your Fastag blocking the camera's wide angle vision? Perhaps you should get replace your Fastag and fix the new one to the top right corner to the right side of the driver to ensure Dashcam has full view.

Actually no, the Fastag doesn't hamper or block the dashcam view as the dashcam lens is on the opposite direction of the Fastag (please check the image in the previous post)

Attaching the sample of the uncropped vision from the dashcam video. Full 130degree view is visible.

So far so good !!!

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Hi Guys

A 40 day update on my Safari Dark Edition. I've only been able to drive it for 400 odd KMs and its as if the Beast is begging me to take her for a long drive! What's worse, I've almost exclusively driven it during peak office hours in and around Sakinaka, out of all the places( people from Mumbai would know what I'm talking about!). I'm sure my car already hates me!

But coming back to the machine, I am happy to report no glitches, issues, errors( apart from TPMS failure error a couple of times).

Here are my observations so far:

1.On the very rare( read one) occasion I've been able to drive her a little spiritedly( on the Bandra Worli Sealink and the new Coastal Road), it put a smile on my face! The engine is very silent( or the NVH very good), smooth and people who've been in the car have been impressed by the plush feel the car exudes. I've had a Tiguan owner tell me he's made a mistake by not considering the Tata Safari!

2. The Music System is very, very good with great thump, great channel separation and amazing clarity. It can get mighty loud as well! The JBL sound modes are meh and I usually keep it on acoustic or my custom settings.

2. The ambient lighting feature is a pleasant surprise! I always thought its a tacky feature but I think Tata has executed it really well. I would also like to think that Dark Edition ambient lighting and infotainment UI is a little better than the normal version. My opinion strictly.

3. Have hardly used the Sunroof despite having 3 kids! Its just a good to have and that's about it.

4. The suspension is definitely a little on the stiffer side at low speeds, and I haven't been able to experience it at sustained high speeds yet. I really wish the wheels had thicker sidewalls!

5. My knee does foul with the center console if I drive in my usual position, which is seat height set at max( I'm 5' 11"). So I've had to compromise a bit on the seat height and distance from the console.

6. For the longest time since I took the delivery, I had the front parking assist on and it drove me crazy with the constant beeps and warnings and just ruined the driving experience. In my ignorance I somehow thought it cant be switched off and even if it could be, it would get turned back on after every restart. But I was relieved to discover that's not the case and once you switch it off, it stays off and its such a relief!

7. The FCW/AEB feature works! It works a bit too well IMHO! I had set it at the least sensitive setting but still I've had multiple instances of autonomous braking when I, myself am wary of the imminent collision( more like a bumper peck) and braking hard. Since I've been driving in bumper to bumper traffic, there have been many instances of the car in front suddenly stopping. What I feel is that its designed to keep a certain distance from the car in front and hence brakes really hard while I, being an Indian and driving in Mumbai know it doesn't work that way, and braking just enough to stop CMs away from the car in front, so not to give a sudden jolt the the passengers and myself. But the car thinks otherwise and applies the brakes really hard, making a loud noise! So finally I've had to switch it off and have set it to alerts only. Will have to keep in mind to switch it back on whenever I go out of the city. In a city like Mumbai, where I stay, I don't think its needed. Have others had these experiences? In really dense traffic?

8. All the other features like traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning etc work as they should. I guess once I take her for a proper drive I'll know which features are actually useful and which ones are to be disabled.

9. Lastly, I think I'm gonna get myself a Dashcam and get it hardwired to ensure parking surveillance works. Hope this doesn't void any warranty.

Just itching to take her for a long spin but I guess both of us will have to wait with work being crazy right now and then I'll be travelling for Diwali. Will share some pics in my next post soon

Cheers

Hi Familyguy,

Congratulations on becoming the proud owner of the Safari Dark Edition! I recently bought my Harrier (Fearless Plus AT Dark Edition), so I can relate to the excitement.

Regarding your point on the dashcam, I would strongly recommend opting for the hardwire installation. I did the same with my Harrier, and it has been a seamless experience. In the Harrier, the 12V socket is located under the centre armrest, and I assume it’s the same for the Safari. This positioning isn’t ideal for connecting a dashcam, as the wires could be visible to passengers and might become a nuisance.

Hardwiring offers a cleaner setup and avoids these issues entirely.

As for the warranty, the dealer team might raise concerns about it becoming void due to hardwiring. However, I spoke to a service manager from Tata Motors, and he confirmed that hardwiring won’t cause any warranty-related problems.

Do take some timeout from your work and go for the pending long spin. You will not regret

With the new Safari, Tata has become very creative in terms of how the entire ownership experience can be made unpredictable, if not poor.
I have been observing this for some time now. My radio reception goes crazy, as soon as the auto headlights turn on when I am in a dark spot. I really don't understand the technology behind this - may be as pointed out, that may be the reason for replacing the tailgate led lights by Tata. Another comment i heard from the service centre is that "Harmon car music systems have this issue". Not sure how much this is true - may be other Safari owners can comment.

I am now in 15.18 but feel that the software is far from perfect. Tata needs to work a lot on this.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

Went for the long pending long drive finally. Drove the Safari for 500km odd over two days on good and bad highways both. My previous car was a 09 year old Elantra - a typical very low slung, no nonsense, point and shoot sedan which has set a reasonably steep benchmark for ride quality, body roll etc. As much as the older-gen Vernas and Elantras had a tarnished image for their wallowy ride quality, the Fludic Elantra offered a truly luxurious ride experience, though it ran on a 1586cc CRDI engine. Amazing ride quality it offered. We sat so low that my boss used to call it a centipede.

Now moving from such a low slung sedan to a very tall car like Safari, i had my apprehensions. But one thing I must give to Tata. Me and my wife felt at home instantly inside the Safari, after trying both XUv700, Alcazar and Hector. The ergonomics, ride quality, steering feedback, just the feel of the wheel etc., were too adjacent to the Elantra to ignore.

So coming back to the long ride, it was amazing. The true testimony my family can offer is that we did not miss our earlier low-slung sedan on a highway when we were riding Safari. Hoping to crunch more miles soon.

Re: 2023 Tata Safari Facelift Review

I've a Thar Roxx on order. Since there is no official booking timeline yet, I decided to have a look at Safari. This facelifted safari is something I have been eyeing since its launch.

Showroom experience:
It was the 5th day of Durga Pooja, as soon I reached the dealership, a new Harrier dark edition was being delivered. I went in and sat for 20 mins. A guy finally came in with Safari's pricing details. I nudged him for any running offers since I heard there were massive discounts on Harrier/Safari close to 3L. He initially offered 70000 cash discount.

Test Drive:
I expected a 2-3 km test drive since this is the norm here.
As I got into the car, I noticed that the white interior was heavily abused and it being a test drive vehicle didn't help.

Everything from the driver seat's POV felt plush and ergonomic. As we drove for a couple of kms, the sales guy asked me to pull over to a petrol pump. The pump has extremely bad roads for its approach and departure. Coming from a Seltos/Thar as a daily, I braced my back for jolts. I was surprised by the low speed composure of the Safari. I took the car around the same section a couple of times just to be sure that this wasn't a fluke.

Diesel topped and we went on a 25km long test drive. 5 in the city and 20 in a NH. This was his idea and I obliged.

Things I liked:
- A very commanding seating position plus adjustable lumbar support is boon for tall people like me
- Refinement and NVM are leaps and bounds ahead of the C segment vehicles, specially at high speeds
- Music system was great
- Punchy engine
- Very easy to drive regardless of the size

Things I didn't like:
- AT Gearbox and power delivery feel a bit too slow and sluggish in the city drive mode
- White leather on the steering wheel is a deal breaker
- Glitchy 360 camera and AC controls but I was told that this has been fixed in newer models
- Visibility from ORVMs isn't great
- Puny Horn

Overall I liked the car and now understand why most people go for the dark edition. If I get a long queue for the Thar Roxx then I might just buy the Safari. Accomplished plus 6 seater is my variant of choice.

I stand corrected. This particular feature( AEB/FCW) gets reset every time the car is switched off.
