PLUS TURBO AT: ₹12,79,000

A dual-tone option is available in the Max variants for an additional Rs 21,000.

Only base variant is aggressively priced, other variants are overpriced by atleast ₹25-30K.
Fair pricing I would say for the niche segment it operates on

I was expecting that PLUS TURBO would be priced at 9.99L, hope discounts would kick in once the initial sales and excitement settle.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Excellent pricing.
I saw it on the road yesterday. Must say, it is very proportionate and looks cool.
Good product with excellent pricing. All that Citroen now needs are a couple of service centres across the nation.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Citroen should sell more.

The Aircross is fantastic to drive. Perfect power, gearing from that tiny, 1.2 lt engine.

The only issue for me, were the fixed 2nd row seats. They could have kept it fixed, but needed to add at least 6 more inches of leg room.

Consumers, must give Citroen a chance. The Aircross and the Basalt, look great, drive great, just a few faults.

We, as consumers, need more choice. Bring em all to our market.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

The step-ups in pricing is very steep. The YOU variant seems to be on paper only, just to draw footfall into the showrooms. Citreon should have offered an automatic transmission variant just below 10 lakhs, even if it was an NA variant with a basic auto transmission. To access the convenience of an auto, (an important feature in this segment), one has to stretch and spend close to 16 lakh on-road in many states, to get a turbo plus AT variant. That is a lot of money for a car that still missing a number of basic and important features such a cruise control. It would be difficult for Citreon to gather volumes at this price point when the market is done and current players are discounting inventory quite heavily. The mid and top variants of the Slavia/Virtus and the Taigun/Kaushaq are available at deep discounts. Skoda ran an on-line sale last month where both 1.0 TSI AT and 1.5 TSI AT variants of mid and top spec cars were available at close to 2.3 lakhs ex-showroom. The Hyundai-Kia family also also offers feature-rich products but decent features at this price point. I expect that Citreon will have to do some deep discounting very soon or introduce new value variance to move inventory of the basalt.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Top end Basalt costs will cost base model of Curvv, I think .

I saw it in person today. Must say the SUV- coupe concept appealed a lot to me. Earlier I hated this concept.

And to car itself, this one was the mid variant with wheel caps. The wheel caps look quite bad on the car. The window area could have been better made. Their shape looks odd. And the flap type door handles, ugh !

The rear looks cool, front decent and side nice except those issues I mentioned above.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Imagine using those flappy door handles every day after paying 15 lakh rupees. So much for a car with design as its USP.

At the top end of the basalt price range, you can actually get the base model Tata Harrier (with current offers), which is a full-size SUV with a 2.0 diesel engine. Additionally, the base model turbo petrol Tata Curvv Smart variant is likely to be priced competitively, potentially undercutting the Basalt NA petrol Plus variant (me thinks). In reality the Basalt starts at 10 lacs with the PLUS, and I believe the YOU variant is simply a marketing ploy. Citroen's pricing strategy is quite bold, especially in this highly competitive market, but it's possible they're confident in their product and have received strong bookings.

A brutal market strategy. Discount anyway is the norm. Lets keep atleast the list prices at the respectable level.

On serious note, MT PLUS at 9.9L makes little sense when base model of superior and fancier Astor is on offer at the same price which struggles for takers.

So is for MAX TURBO MT price

So prices soon will find their own levels.

I think the flap type door handles has garnered unnecessary attention. They’re good to see and not an eye sore. Let’s move on from this.
There is more to a car more than just the type of door handles.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Do note that this is just the introductory pricing. If I'm not wrong, there is going to be a price hike in October, for the "real" pricing.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

In my opinion the models barring the base one are steeply priced. I was expecting the top end variant to be under 12 Lacs. With this pricing, we can expect steep discounts to kick in couple of months down the line.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Call me a sceptic, but I think this car may not do as well as the Citroen expects it to:
  • Car ownership in India, especially at INR 10 lac+ price points, is an aspiritional experience. We are still only at ~8% household car ownership.
  • Given this context, most rational buyers would want to feel "good" and a sense of achievement about their purchase.
  • Therefore, companies such as Kia who priortize and enhance the feel "good" factor, do really well in India at these price points.
  • Case in example: Elevate. Good product, but average interiors. End result? Hyundai sells more Cretas in 3 days than Honda does Elevate in a month.
  • The entire feel about this car is a French company designing a budget vehicle for an emerging market. It works below INR 5-7 lacs, not above INR 10 lacs.
  • At INR 12 lacs there are a plethora of options that fulfill the dopamine requirement. I would buy the Sonet 10/10 times over this car.
  • Most buyers outside of forums such as Team-BHP don't care about great engines and sorted dynamics. Otherwise the VW twins would outsell Creta/Seltos by many times over. This is similar to the fanfare for Google Pixel among geek forums. Outside, not many people care.
  • The interiors of the Basalt feel cheap. The plastics and switches are horribly outdated. Reminds me of the Mahindra Verito.
  • In summary, enthusiasts will reminice about what a car the Basalt could have been; but in reality, after 3-4 months, Citroen will find it hard to move even 500 units a month.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Brands like Citroen should focus on specific states, such as Keralam for example, which is one state outside of the metros where this would sell. Populate it with service centres everywhere.

Citroen could have added one more variant MAX PLUS with below features for 14.25L. This would still be lesser than top variants of sub 4 meter cars.

1. Cruise Control
2. Push Button Start
3. Keyless entry and go
4. Sunroof (Optional)
